Fishing access draws most visitors to Little Wood River, a state-managed campground outside Carey, Idaho, where the reservoir-adjacent sites put anglers within easy reach of the water. Sites are spaced generously, so campers are not crowded against one another, and each comes with a picnic table and fire ring. The campground sits close enough to Little Wood River - USBR that the two are sometimes confused, but they serve different needs.
Amenities are minimal. Drinking water and toilets are on-site, though at least one visitor noted the tap water carries a yellow tint and recommended bringing a personal supply as a backup. Cell service is not available here. That said, the grounds have been described as clean and well-maintained for a free campground, with green grass and views facing the water.
Bill H. arrived the Thursday before the Fourth of July and found "plenty of spots still available," suggesting the campground absorbs holiday-weekend demand better than many comparable sites in the region. Anglers looking for additional water access in the area may also consider Silver Creek West Access Area or Hayspur Hatchery, both southwest of here. Little Wood River works best as an overnight or short-stay base for those who want water nearby and crowds that stay manageable.
