Creek-side fishing and dog walking opportunities make Montpelier Creek KOA a water-focused stop for RV travelers passing through southeastern Idaho. The campground sits directly alongside Montpelier Creek, with some sites positioned right next to the flowing water where campers can cast a line or listen to the current from their setup.
Sites accommodate RVs up to 70 feet with full hookups, though Jennifer B. notes "sites are very close together, water pressure is not great." The campground features both shaded areas under mature trees and open terrain options. A heated pool provides relief during hot summer days, while a playground with swings keeps children occupied. The on-site camp store stocks basic necessities and snacks for campers who need to resupply.
Access involves navigating some rough road conditions, particularly after weather events. The location puts campers close to the mouth of Montpelier Canyon, which can create warm conditions during summer months. A fenced dog area allows pets to exercise safely, and clean restroom facilities with showers serve overnight guests. Other campgrounds around Montpelier provide additional options for those exploring the region.
The campground operates seasonally from May through October and accepts reservations, making it suitable for RV travelers seeking creek access and full amenities during their Idaho travels.
Description
This award-winning, peaceful KOA lies along the Oregon Trail, halfway between Salt Lake City and Yellowstone National Park. Settle back in a tree-shaded site, lulled by the trickle of the creek that runs through the campground. Drop a lure into the creek (fishing license required) or relax in the heated pool. Your dog will love the fenced-in dog park and a walk along the nature trail. No RV or tent? Stay in a tepee with modern conveniences or a Cabin by the creek. Or go "camping" in a Deluxe Cabin with a full bath/linen service. The National Oregon/California Trail Center provides an amazing look at the pioneer experience, including a computer-simulated covered-wagon ride. For adventure today, you can explore ATV trails, enjoy water sports at Bear Lake, bird-watch at Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge or head underground to Minnetonka Cave. Please call for campground's early opening dates. Pool: Memorial Weekend Labor Day Weekend. Max pull thru: 120 feet. Your hosts: Jim and Brenda Reno.
