River's End Campground & RV Park

      Week at the beach

Great camping area with dog parks close by. The campground is a little narrow if you are wide but all in all enough room to get through. All the amenities were clean and well kept. The local cat population is standoffish except ol 3 legs he was kind and loved the petting. The grounds are only a few blocks from the beach and it's beautiful! Had no problems here at all, everyone was so friendly!

      Hilton Head National RV Resort

      Stay Here

This is by far the best camp ground I have ever stayed at. Clean and spacious sites. The Bath house and private shower area were 5-star hotel quality. Great dog park very clean with separate areas for large and small pets. The pool, lazy river, Tiki Bar and restaurant area was top quality, providing plenty of lounge chairs, tables/w umbrellas, and free pool floats for the lazy river experience. The are plenty cabana setups throughout the pool complex. They were quite expensive and frankly mostly empty for the week I stayed there.(August). Food was outstanding and consistent throughout our stay. My family highly recommends a stay. We will be back.

Best of the best of everything!

This place has it all & it’s all amazing!! First of all, ALL of the staff are so incredibly kind & hospitable. 2nd, the sites are very large & have every hookup you could want including cable. The park is surrounded by a beautiful walking trail that cuts thru the woods & several areas of the campground. There’s a great, big dog park & an indoor, air conditioned dog spa with several really nice dog wash stationed with temp controlled water, not just cold. The bars are great, yummy drinks & great food. The pool….so nice. There’s a big spray fountain & an awesome lazy river. There’s also a tiki bar at the pool & you can rent cabanas. The clubhouse shop has everything you could ever want & such cute souvenirs. Stuff for the pets too. Most sites are woods views but one area has great water & golf course views. Oh, the golf course, stunning!! I’m sure I’m missing so many things but all I can say is I booked my next visit on the 1st day I was here. 10/10

      Lake Jasper RV Park

      Loved it!!!

We stayed here for two nights on our way back home from Florida to Virginia. We had a pull thru full hookup gravel site. Our two dogs had a blast at the dog park! It is located next to a city park with walking trails. And only a short 30 min drive to Savannah. Will stay again! Clean, well kept, friendly. Close to freeway.

River's End Campground & RV Park

Tight little city campground with amazing location

This is definitely a "city" campground. Spots are tight, you will be very close to your neighbors, but you'll have everything you need, including a fire ring and picnic table. Wi-Fi and cable were also on point.

There is an on-site store which seemed well stocked. However, we tried to order firewood several nights and each night, they were out of firewood.

Bugs are bad. Bring bug spray!

There are two dog parks beside the campground. One for small dogs and another for large dogs. They are nice to have but both could definitely use some work. Even though we have small dogs, we went to the big dog park because the small dog park was in really bad shape.

Walking/biking distance to the beach. Also walkable to really great coffee shop called Tybean Art & Coffee Bar.

*Warning: While Tybee Island, including the campground, is one of the most dog-friendly places I have ever been, you are not allowed to have dogs on the beaches on the island. This is so strange to me, but they are very serious about it. Don't do it.

    Guide to Port Wentworth

Port Wentworth's proximity to coastal marshlands creates a humid subtropical climate with mild winters averaging 60°F and summer temperatures reaching into the 90s. The region sits at just 30 feet above sea level, making coastal access easy for campers seeking both forest and shoreline experiences. Most pet-friendly camping sites near Port Wentworth maintain available spots year-round with highest occupancy during spring and fall months.

    What to do

Nature trails with wildlife viewing: Skidaway Island State Park offers multiple hiking trails where visitors can observe local wildlife in their natural habitat. "The campground is also a short drive from Savannah, so it's a great base camp for exploring northeastern Georgia," notes Zach H., who appreciated the "handful of nature trails that are easily accessible from the campground."

Fishing opportunities: Lake Jasper RV Park provides direct lake access for anglers looking to catch local freshwater species. "You are not even located on the mainland here – in fact, you'll be parked on Eagle Scout Island with direct access to beautiful Lake Jasper, which will satisfy your fishing, boating and paddling urges," shares Stuart K. The park maintains a fishing dock and covered pier for guest use.

Historical exploration: Fort McAllister State Park combines camping with Civil War history. "We planned this trip to coincide with the annual Civil War reenactment of Sherman's last battle on his way to the sea. It was our first reenactment and was interesting," writes William N. The park maintains an informative visitor center documenting the fort's significance during the Civil War.

    What campers like

Spacious campsites: Red Gate Farms RV Resort features large sites spread across a 200-acre property. "This is our 'go to' campground near Savannah. We sleep here while we explore Savannah and surrounding areas, but it's also a beautiful campground if you want to spend some time here. If you camp in an area other than the large field out front, it's like camping on someone's horse farm," explains Mary S., highlighting the farm-like atmosphere.

Clean facilities: CreekFire RV Resort maintains well-kept amenities that campers consistently praise. "The campground is super clean and friendly staff. Love having the resort like pool/lazy river/splash pad," reports Edward S., who also appreciated the thoughtful site layout: "Sites are angled so it makes backing in a breeze! And the concrete pad was almost perfectly level which made setup so quick!"

Beach proximity: River's End Campground offers convenient access to Tybee Island beaches. "Campground staff were friendly and well organized. Sites had full service hookups. Sites were level. Bathroom and shower were very clean and spacious. Close to downtown and walkable to beaches," notes Donald S., appreciating the combination of campground quality and beach access.

    What you should know

Wildlife awareness: Campers should understand that local waterways often contain alligators and other wildlife. At Lake Jasper RV Park, Stuart K. advises, "Be aware that there are snakes and alligators in and around Lake Jasper, so if you're out walking Fido, be sure to keep him/her on the leash at all times."

Site selection considerations: When booking at pet-friendly campgrounds near Port Wentworth, request specific site types based on your needs. "Sites 13 through 17 are full hookup sites out front among sites 1-21 and look like the best ones to me. All of these sites are appropriate for large RVs (think Class A) with long gravel pads," advises Mary S. regarding Red Gate Farms.

Gate restrictions: Some parks maintain strict gate closing times that limit evening activities. Elizabeth E. notes about Skidaway Island State Park: "Gate locks at 10 pm which really is not enough time if you want a night downtown."

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Fort McAllister State Park Campground provides multiple play areas for children. "Great campsite. Great hikes. Very nice campground. Great hikes. My kids loved the playground and the fort tour!!" shares Tyler W., highlighting the combination of educational and recreational activities for children.

Educational opportunities: Several parks offer learning centers where children can explore local ecology. "They have nice big pull trough sites. Also have a fun learning center and nice hiking trails," notes Amy B. about Skidaway Island State Park, where the nature center provides interactive displays about coastal ecosystems.

Kid-friendly water features: Families appreciate the swimming opportunities at several area campgrounds. At CreekFire Motor Ranch, Rachel R. reports, "This campground has a pool, WiFi, gorgeous lake, a trail around the lake, nice level sites, and they pick up your garbage. It's absolutely picture perfect."

    Tips from RVers

Pull-through accessibility: Several campgrounds offer easy-access sites for larger rigs. At CreekFire Motor Ranch, Edward S. observed, "Sites are angled so it makes backing in a breeze! And the concrete pad was almost perfectly level which made setup so quick!"

Convenient city access: When camping with pets near Port Wentworth, RVers appreciate proximity to downtown Savannah. "Call if you don't see availability online. I've never seen a tent here, but that area in front of the office is good for a tent. We've camped twice in our teardrop in this area, and there was just one truck camper the first time," advises Mary S. about Red Gate Farms, noting its excellent location for city exploration.

Navigating muddy conditions: RVers should prepare for occasional drainage issues at some parks. Elizabeth E. mentioned about Skidaway Island State Park: "It was pretty muddy...people were getting mud all over because of the snow. Not their fault but a hard rain would do the same. Poor drainage."
