CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Cabin accommodations near Port Wentworth include both rustic and modern options at several established campgrounds. Skidaway Island State Park Campground provides cabin rentals with private bathrooms, basic kitchen amenities, and air conditioning. Spacious Skies Savannah Oaks offers cabin accommodations set among oak trees draped with Spanish moss, providing shelter from the afternoon sun. Cabins typically feature beds, electricity, and indoor plumbing, though furnishing levels vary by location. Fort McAllister State Park Campground and River's End Campground & RV Park provide year-round cabin rentals. Most cabins require advance reservations, especially during peak travel seasons from March through October. Pet policies differ significantly between locations, with some properties charging additional fees for pets. KOA-style cabins at Savannah South KOA and Point South KOA offer standardized amenities including beds, small refrigerators, and air conditioning units. Holbrook Pond Recreation Area provides military-affiliated visitors with cabin accommodations in a more secluded setting.

Most furnished cabins provide beds with mattresses but require guests to bring linens, pillows, and towels. Kitchen facilities vary widely, from basic microwaves and mini-refrigerators to full kitchens with stovetops and cookware in deluxe cabins. Several campgrounds feature on-site stores with basic provisions, firewood, and camping supplies. Savannah Oaks has "a nice store that's part of the campground" according to one reviewer. Savannah South KOA maintains a well-stocked market for guests staying in their log cabins. Visitors planning longer stays should consider bringing specialized cooking equipment and supplementing with groceries from nearby communities.

    Excellent Stop tucked off I95

Stayed at #52 and it was very private, level, and clean!

The gravel kept the camper clean; the deck with bench, table and chairs, gas fire pit was super nice; the grill with picnic table were awesome. The plot abuts the grassy area but wasn’t too buggy.

We went on a walk with our girls around the camp site, to the doggy area (small bjt super cute with some see saws, etc.), around the lake, and read the historical signs. We checked out the giant chess board, playground, horse shoes, and corn hole.

COVID restrictions were really well explained. Masks suggested, pool sign up with rules posted. We signed up for 6:30 and the team thoroughly cleaned between us and the precious crew.

The food and store was super and reasonable.

Next time I will def check out the nightly wine or beer tasting.

Can’t say enough good things - will def be back!!

    Skidaway Island State Park Campground

    Beautiful Park in Great Location

This state park is close to a lot of things to do.  Very close to Wormslow Historic Site and Savannah.  The campground is really nice with large trees and lots of hanging moss.  We were in site 61 that was very deep and secluded with our picnic table set back from the road.  We had to park our camper crooked because of a tree and roots.  The bath house was nice and clean.  However the heat was broken on the hand blower in the women's side.

There are sites with full hook ups.  There are also nice trails with one that leads to an observation deck.  Also have bike rentals.

    Savannah South KOA

    Beautiful & Clean

This was our very first camping trip (2 adults, 2 kids & a Lab.) We arrived to friendly service & easily found our site (#6.) The tent sites are right on the water, which is home to swans, ducks, turtles & possibly gators too! The sandy pad for our tent was perfect, very level & comfortable. There was plenty of room for our big screened canopy, picnic table, chairs & fire ring. The views from the lake were wonderful & t made waking up to see the sunrise worth it every day.

This campground is about 30mins from Savannah & Tybee Island - both of which we visited & enjoyed.

The bathhouse & general store were very clean & located a short walk from the tent sites. There is also a playground & pool. The campground was quiet, we had no issues at all.

We will definitely be returning soon!

    Skidaway Island State Park Campground

    Lots of options

I stayed in a back in site in camping area 2. I would call it big rig challenging w/the narrow road and tight-ish back in. I enjoyed the trails & observation tower as well as the cute little shop where you check in. My friend joined me over the weekend & her kids really liked the All About Bats presentation & the playground. Lots of deer & other wildlife to be seen. Shaded sites & mine was full hookup. Pet friendly & the laundry facility takes credit cards. They ended up renting a yurt which was cool. There are also cabins but we didn’t see those.

River's End Campground & RV Park

River's End - Well Kept KOA

Mainly a RV park, but about a dozen tent pads (fine gravel, well kept, no trash) in grassy lots with picnic table and fire pit. Family style bathroom/ showers. Office with coffee, games, books. Host on golf cart was helpful with last minute arrival and places to eat on island. 3 block walk to beach. There was also a larger group camping area - saw a scout troop there - these sites had water and power.

    Skidaway Island State Park Campground

    Simply wonderful !

Skidaway Island SP is quite possibly the nicest state park camping facility we’ve yet to visit! The sites are beyond spacious and afford plenty of privacy - and the hookups were conveniently situated at both sites we utilized during our visit. Huge, level tent pads for tent camping are also provided, as are picnic tables and fire rings. Shower and toilet facilities were clean and in excellent repair. The brand-new visitors center is beautiful and staff were courteous & professional to a person! Bird life is abundant and we had deer show up every day to check on us. Hiking trails are outstanding and the picnic/playground areas are fantastic. Skidaway Island SP is a gem with the added bonus of being just a 15 minute drive to downtown Savannah - we will undoubtedly be returning!

    Skidaway Island State Park Campground

    Fantastic camping closer to Savannah

This state Park keeps a very nice huge campground. It is well maintained. Our site was next to a new bathhouse with individual rooms for showers and restrooms. The sites are very spacious with a tent pads, picnics tables and a fire ring. They have full service sites and water/electric sites as well as tent sites. Dump station available as well. A very quiet and dark campground 25 minutes to Savannah, 30 minutes to Tybee Island.

    Skidaway Island State Park Campground

    Largest campsites, great separation

Arrived here for a four-night tent stay. Easy drive in from Tomoka State Park up I-95. Got the last spot at #62 which is very large and has a large tent pad. The electric and water hookups are on the edge of the street, so I had to use both the 75 and 25 foot extension cords to give power to the tent. There's a fire pit and a large picnic table. The restrooms are clean, as well as the laundry room. The dumpster and recycling bin are a bit far from 62, so bring your bicycle, lol. Deer were roaming the grounds in the early morning. Lots of birds singing at sunrise too. Great place. The 45-min drive up to Tybee Island Beach is totally worth it, with beautiful marshes and flatlands along the way. Beach photos included here.

Guide to Port Wentworth

Cabin accommodations near Port Wentworth include rustic and modern options at various price points. Full-service cabins provide amenities like private bathrooms, kitchens, and climate control systems. Most state park cabins range from one to three bedrooms with varying floor plans. The peak rental season runs March through October with advance reservations typically required at least 3-6 months ahead for weekend stays during this period.

What to do

Fishing access: 30 minutes away at Skidaway Island State Park Campground, where water activities complement cabin stays. "We had no problems getting in and the trails/sites are large and clean. Deer and other wildlife are seen every day," notes Pamela I. The park offers wildlife viewing opportunities with various fishing spots throughout the grounds.

Historical exploration: Civil War reenactments occur seasonally at Fort McAllister State Park Campground. "We planned this trip to coincide with the annual Civil War reenactment of Sherman's last battle on his way to the sea. It was our first reenactment and was interesting," explains William N. The fort itself serves as an educational site with preserved earthworks.

Nature trails: Multiple difficulty levels available near cabin sites. "There are a handful of nature trails that are easily accessible from the campground. The campground is also a short drive from Savannah, so it's a great base camp for exploring northeastern Georgia," states Zach H. Most trails range from 0.5-3 miles in length with minimal elevation changes, making them accessible for most fitness levels.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Large cabin plots at Skidaway Island State Park Campground provide privacy between accommodations. "Sites are really large, spaced out and private. Lots of hiking trails right at the campground and two large playgrounds for kids," reports Elizabeth E. The layout prevents overcrowding during peak seasons.

Clean facilities: Regularly maintained bathhouses near cabin areas. "The bathhouse I used was recently updated and clean, the laundry area was clean but the majority of the machines were broken," shares Charlie B. about Spacious Skies Savannah Oaks. Most parks clean facilities twice daily during peak periods.

Wildlife viewing: Natural habitats surround many cabins. "Deer and other wildlife are seen every day," mentions Pamela I. The natural setting provides opportunities for photography and animal observation without leaving the campgrounds. Morning and evening hours typically offer the best wildlife viewing conditions.

What you should know

Gate restrictions: Limited night access at some parks. "Gate locks at 10 pm which really is not enough time if you want a night downtown," cautions Elizabeth E. This timing restriction affects visitors planning evening activities in Savannah or surrounding areas.

Weather considerations: Prepare for insects year-round in this climate. "When I was here in April the flies were awful but they went away when the sun went down," warns Hannah C. about River's End Campground & RV Park. The coastal climate creates persistent moisture that supports insect populations.

Campsite security: Wildlife precautions required for food storage. "Do NOT leave food or trash unattended or they will ransack your campsite," advises Hannah C. Many cabins lack secure storage for food items, necessitating proper containers or vehicle storage.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple play areas available at family-oriented parks. "Lots of great hiking within walking distance of the campsite," mentions Michelle H. Most family-focused campgrounds maintain playground equipment for different age groups within walking distance of cabin areas.

Kid-friendly trails: Educational nature walks suitable for children. "This place is Great! I went there with my family about a month ago, they have hiking trails, bike trails, a nature center and plenty of room for kids to ride bikes," shares Marysa H. Trail difficulty ratings are typically posted at trailheads.

Activity planning: Educational opportunities at Point South KOA supplement cabin stays. "The kids loved the gem mining and playground," reports Christa C. Many parks offer ranger-led programs during summer months with schedules posted at registration offices.

Tips from RVers

Parking considerations: Space constraints exist at some cabin areas. "Very well maintained campground with a nice walking trail. We stayed here for two nights and it was very nice," notes Miranda V. Most cabin sites accommodate one vehicle with overflow parking available at designated areas.

Supply accessibility: On-site stores stock essentials at Savannah South KOA. "The front office was kind, considerate and very helpful! Concrete drives and pads! Well drained and did not flood despite the torrential down pours," reports Kitti W. Store hours typically run 8am-8pm during peak season with reduced hours during winter months.

Utility reliability: Power fluctuations can occur during storms. "The bathrooms/shower were modern, clean, and well-equipped, plenty of hot water. They even had a built-in hair dryer on the wall, greatly appreciated!" shares Cyndi B. Cabin renters should prepare for occasional outages with backup lighting and charging options.
