The area includes Georgia Veterans State Park Campground, which offers lakefront sites along Lake Blackshear with tent, RV, and cabin options. Twin Oaks RV Park and Fair Harbor RV Park serve travelers along the I-75 corridor with full hookup sites, while more secluded options like The Hollow at Triple Threat Farm offer primitive tent camping and cabin accommodations. Several parks feature lakefront access, golf courses, disc golf, and hiking trails within reasonable driving distance of town.

Road conditions around Oglethorpe are generally good with paved access to most developed campgrounds. Summer temperatures can reach into the 90s with high humidity, making spring and fall more comfortable for tent camping. "The campground is very nice. The sites are shaded and very clean. It is easily accessible and easy to get around in," noted one camper about Claystone Park. Most developed campgrounds require reservations, especially for weekend stays during peak season (March through October). Cell service varies but remains reliable at campgrounds near highways, with several visitors reporting good coverage for T-Mobile and Verizon networks at locations like Southern Trails RV Resort.

Waterfront camping near Oglethorpe receives consistently positive reviews, particularly at Georgia Veterans State Park where sites overlook Lake Blackshear. Campers highlight the military museum, fishing piers, and boat ramps as popular amenities. Noise levels vary significantly between highway-adjacent campgrounds and more remote options. A review of Cordele KOA mentioned, "This KOA is just off of I75, super convenient for an overnight stop. While you can hear the highway, this one is not immediately adjacent but one property away, so it isn't bad." Wildlife sightings are common at parks farther from town, with campers reporting frogs, deer, and various bird species. Most established campgrounds offer clean bathroom facilities, though primitive camping areas like Flint River WMA have minimal amenities and are better suited for self-contained camping.

      Fair Harbor RV Park

Great park and extremely convenient location

Stayed at this park for the second time. Both were great experiences. Staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Camp store has reasonable prices and propane is available on site.

      Cordele KOA

Nice people but I would skip it!

The people are wonderful but the maintenance and facilities of this KOA are one star.

No AC in the restrooms. Grass up past our ankles (lawnmower was broken) It rained so, we woke up to having to pack up in the mud. We were placed in what appeared to be an overflow field that was full sun until after 5 pm.

      Not worth $65

Kids did however really enjoy the pool.

      James Dykes Memorial Park Campsite

      Easy & clean

Although off the beaten path, it was easy to find and easy to park. Some locals at various times, but we were the only over-nighters. It was quiet and serene with several places to park.

      Georgia Veterans State Park Campground

Beautiful campground, although my momma won't come back.

I've personally enjoyed camping here.  But, My Momma, not so much.

My mother was walking away from the older restrooms, near the gate, walking down a one way road, where a vehicle aggressively passed her in the wrong direction coming from a hosts location.   Was it the host? Or a guest of theirs?  We don't know.

She felt, as they were passing her, against the one way, taken back, like they were going to hit her, and aggressively.   Coming from ''The Brown's, From Vienna"*(or Smiths?) camphost site.

      She made me aware.

The following evening as we were walking to the restrooms, the same people drove against the 'one-way traffic' from the camphost site.  She pointed it out to me...  and honestly, it looked like they flicked us off as they drove away.

This was a Mother's Day gift, for a girls weekend.   Ruined by the campground hosts.
