Georgia Veterans State Park Campground provides cabin accommodations approximately 40 miles from Americus, with full amenities including electricity, running water, and climate control systems. Cabins overlook Lake Blackshear with several featuring screened porches. "We rent a little cabin and it was really nice. I usually camp with tents but with the Georgia heat and all the bugs I wasnt going to deal with it this time. The cost is fair and they are clean," noted one visitor. Twin Oaks RV Park in Elko and Florence Marina State Park in Omaha also offer cabin rentals, though with varying levels of furnishings and amenities.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. The Hollow at Triple Threat Farm provides more primitive cabin options for those seeking a more secluded experience, while KOA-style cabins at Cordele KOA offer standardized amenities typical of the franchise. Most campgrounds require reservations, particularly during summer months when lakeside cabins fill quickly. Pet policies vary by location, with Georgia Veterans State Park and Twin Oaks permitting pets in designated cabins. According to one review, "We stopped here on our way south to Florida out of curiosity... We only spent 2 nights (on a whim) but will return for a longer stay in the future."

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Equipped kitchen facilities vary significantly between locations, with more deluxe cabins offering refrigerators, microwaves, and basic cookware, while rustic options may only provide outdoor fire rings. Campground stores at Georgia Veterans State Park and Cordele KOA sell firewood and basic provisions, but guests staying at more remote cabin sites should plan to bring all necessary supplies. Grocery stores are available in Cordele and Albany for more extensive shopping needs, making these locations practical bases for longer cabin stays.

      Georgia Veterans State Park Campground

      Keep it moving

Georgia Veterans State Park sits next to Lake Blackshear and shares the lake front with a resort. There is a marina , condos and a golf course on resort side. On the Park side there is the much more desirable campground:)

There are plenty of options to choose from in the three camping “loops”. Some lakeside sites have direct access to the water and in camping area 1 you can get pretty close to the fishing pier. A lot of the sites are pull through , in area 3 all sites are pull through and several of the sites border one of the Nature trails. The primitive walk in tent sites are in area 3. There are two handicap accessible sites and two double sites for group camping(the other sites are close together so this just puts you on the same “pad”)There is shade but definitely more on some sites then others. Not a lot of privacy. It wasn’t real busy or noisy so the open layout wasn’t a major hang up for me. This is definitely more of a “organized”, well maintained, military feel campground. I didn’t get the State Park in the woods vibe at all :)

There are rental Cottages which overlook the water some with screen porches. There is a fishing pier behind Cottage one and two.

In addition there are boocoo recreation activities:

Disc golf (a little over grown)

      Pioneer Group campsite

      Aviation and Combat Arms equipment

      A museum

      Model airplane field

Outdoor exercise equipment along with an exercise trail

      Nature trails

      Archery range

      Fishing piers

      Large boat ramp

      Small boat ramp

      Excursion Train

A beach with facilities and shaded picnic area

We only took the time to camp and hike but you could easily spend some time here and do something different every day. I’m unfamiliar with the area and wildlife so I kept the boys on short leashes when we walked in the woods , especially near the water. The trails were nice, somewhat maintained and there was old signage plus benches. Not my favorite this trip but nice enough.

      Florence Marina State Park Campground

      Quiet State Park

Had a nice weekend at this small state park. The site was very clean with fire pit, picnic table, and full hook ups including cable. The fire pit had been cleaned out before we arrived which was a nice surprise. The bathhouse was centrally located and was spotless. It included an interior wash room and was heated which was appreciated on the chilly evenings. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Showers also had a separate changing area with plenty of shelves and hooks to keep clothes dry. Loved the recycling on site! The sites are pretty close to each other and because it’s located in a pine forest, there’s not much privacy but enough space to enjoy the patio. We’re glad we checked it out!

Military Park Fort Benning Uchee Creek Army Campground and Marina

      Tent site

Super well maintained tent sites. The tent footprint is elevated by railroad ties, preventing flooding and it made it very convenient to put my boots on in the morning. Established trash/food hang poles as well as picnic tables next to the fire ring with fold over grill capabilities.

      Chehaw Park Campground

Fun Campground for a short stay

Campsites– some spots are spacious like the pull thru but it appears everyone shares one electrical box with a neighbor. Pull thru sites are nice packed gravel/clay and a lot of the back in sites are grassy. There are longer stays available here and some of the sites have that “little too comfortable” look. There is a military base in town, so I am sure this used by military and government workers at times. You will have to call and make your reservation. From past experiences- it is good to double check your reservation or have them email you/mail you your confirmation- check to make sure the site you are assigned has the hook up you are paying for and if you have to share an electrical box you need to find out if there are two 50 amps or if one user gets a 30 amp and the other gets a 50AMP.

There are a couple of cabins and there is also a tent/group camping area too.

Bathhouse- has a washers/ dryers in a screened in area. Bathroom facility is older but maintained. NOTE–> Only one Shower and one family shower

WIFI was only ok- we thought we would get better being so close to Albany. It was better with our boosters, and we used verizon jet packs with our sprint phones.

Activities- we always camp here when we participate in the annual Nut Roll biking event (30-100 mile options)

There is a small wild life park with animal exhibits(extra fee) , hiking trails, mountain biking trails, fantastic playground and water element for kids, BMX track, remote control car track, disc golf and kayaking/fishing just outside the park entrance. There is a more extensive review on our website about the activities.

      Cordele KOA

      4.2 stars

This KOA is just off of i75, super convenient for an overnight stop (which was what we did). Our boys loved the early 80s Era playground, but unfortunately it wasn't kept up well and was frankly dangerous- the large swingset wasn't anchored to the ground, the fence was partially torn down near the roadway, and there was rust on the equipment. They didn't kbiw the difference and played on it for an hour having lots of fun, but it is an accident waiting to happen. The woman who we dealt with at check in was awesome- super nice and friendly, and gave me a teacher discount. Our site was a nice large pull through with a picnic table and fire ring. Setup wasn't difficult. There was some wet dirt, could probably use some gravel. The campground looked to be in a retired pecan Grove. Not a ton of privacy but large sites and nice trees. While you can hear the highway, this one is not immediately adjacent but one property away, so it isn't bad. The property between the campground and the highway is a large abandoned building.. slightly shady but not a problem. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

      Florence Marina State Park Campground

      Weekend Family Camping

We stayed here because of it’s close proximity to Providence Canyon State Park. The campsites are open with no buffer between campers. The restrooms were clean and signs up for Covid. There was ice and firewood available but bring cash. There is boating and canoeing in the marina. There is a putt putt course, but it is very dated. There are a few short trails available. We were the only pop-up. There were a few tents, but mostly RV campers. Watch out for those afternoon storms. They come in quick and the campsites flood easily. Would like to try the cabins next time.

    Guide to Americus

Cabin accommodations near Americus, Georgia range from primitive to fully equipped options within a 40-mile radius. The region's mild winter climate makes year-round cabin camping feasible, though summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity. Several parks offer waterfront cabin rentals that combine woodland privacy with access to fishing, boating, and wildlife observation.

    What to do

Military history exploration: Georgia Veterans State Park Campground provides unique historical exhibits alongside camping. "Open and when I mean open space, all over the Park. Great for fishing Boating, Swimming and they have a great little Museum for the Veterans.... Outside plenty of Military Tanks and Airplanes to see throughout the use in our Military," notes Frankie M.

Water recreation access: Parks at Chehaw offers multiple water-based activities. "Great place to go for swimming, fishing, camping, or hiking," comments Al M. The park includes fishing areas and boat access points.

Outdoor activities for all ages: Georgia Veterans State Park features diverse recreation options beyond standard camping. According to Nik J., the park has "lots of activities on site, including Golf, Disc Golf, RC plane field, fishing, local marina, etc." This diversity makes it suitable for extended cabin stays.

    What campers like

Cleanliness standards: Twin Oaks RV Park maintains high cleanliness standards across their facilities. "The park was super clean and quiet (except for a little road noise from the interstate) but that was not bad and did not bother us at all... Bath house was clean," mentions Amanda.

Family amenities: Cabin campers appreciate dedicated spaces for children. "Great community spaces for dogs and kids. Our 1, 3 and 5 year Olds loved the playground. We were the only ones on it and it is in great shape," notes Greg S. about Twin Oaks RV Park.

Wildlife viewing: Florence Marina State Park offers abundant wildlife observation opportunities from cabin locations. "We walked to the lake there were so many dragonflies it was cool. The birds were swooping up the dragonflies it was interesting to watch," shares B M. The park also features Spanish moss-draped oaks and occasional alligator sightings.

    What you should know

Budget planning: Cabin prices vary significantly by location and amenity level. "I will say it was pricey, $60/night," notes Roger L. about Georgia Veterans State Park. More basic accommodations at smaller campgrounds may cost considerably less.

Reservation timing: Summer cabin availability becomes limited, especially at waterfront locations. Planning ahead is essential for peak periods.

Technological limitations: Whitewater Creek Park and other rural cabin sites have limited connectivity. "Cell service was extremely spotty so don't expect to get much in the way of cell or internet service here," reports one camper about regional parks.

Weather considerations: Georgia cabin camping requires preparation for high humidity and insects during summer months. Spring and fall offer more moderate temperatures with fewer pests.

    Tips for camping with families

Pool access: Cordele KOA provides swimming options for children. "This KOA is just off of i75, super convenient for an overnight stop. Our boys loved the early 80s Era playground," explains Greg S.

Educational opportunities: Parks with nature centers provide learning experiences. "There is a small wild life park with animal exhibits, hiking trails, mountain biking trails, fantastic playground and water element for kids," shares Chris C.

Safety planning: Several campgrounds have water features requiring supervision. "There are signs posted to watch for gators," mentions Suzy E. about regional lake access points near cabin areas.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: For cabins near RV areas, location matters. "Sites along the back have more privacy, as they back up to trees, but the pull through sites looked nice too," advises Greg S.

Utility considerations: Creekside RV Park offers cabin rentals with utilities similar to RV hookups. "Big sites. Big pool, baby pool, kid pool with dump bucket and Lazy River. Play ground. Outside bar & Grill. Lot to do. Clean," describes Tracy.

Extended stay options: Some locations accommodate longer cabin rentals. "We stayed for 6 days and took advantage of the area to relax, explore and take care of things like scheduled auto maintenance and supply shopping," explains Don about regional options.
