Black Canyon RV Park & Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Anglers and hikers heading to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park have a convenient base in Cimarron, Colorado, where Black Canyon RV Park & Campground sits along US Highway 50 with full hookups and room for rigs up to 60 feet. The highway location means road noise is part of the deal, though at least one reviewer noted the campground itself stayed quiet during their stay. The surrounding landscape draws consistent attention across reviews, with open sightlines toward the canyon country that defines this stretch of western Colorado.

The grounds are well-maintained. Multiple visitors highlight clean bathrooms, showers, and laundry facilities, though the laundry machines require quarters and there's no change machine on site. One practical note: sites have limited gravel, so rain can turn things muddy and RV rugs are not permitted. The camp host receives positive marks for friendliness, but the office keeps irregular hours, so tracking someone down for questions or change can take some patience.

cvermeyen calls it "very well cared for grounds," a sentiment echoed across most reviews. WiFi works reliably, a detail worth noting given the remote setting and limited cell service in the area. Full electric, water, and sewer hookups make this a functional stop for RV travelers who want amenities without roughing it. Nearby, Pleasant Valley Cabins and Campground sits just over a mile west for those considering alternatives along the same corridor.

The campground runs from May through November and accepts reservations, which makes sense to use given its proximity to a popular national park. It works best for RV travelers who want a clean, serviced overnight stop with access to camping near Montrose and the broader canyon country to the east.

Quiet & simple campground

Overall, our family enjoyed our stay. We reserved a campsite for our 31' travel trailer at the end of May. The location was beautiful and though it was right off of the highway, we felt very safe and the campground was quiet. The staff were very friendly, however, it was difficult to access them since the office was usually closed and unless you saw them working out in the campground you didn't know where to go to find someone. The grounds were very well kept, clean laundry, shower, bathroom facilities. The only issue we had with the campsite was that there wasn't alot of gravel so when it rained our site got very muddy. RV rugs were not allowed so we ended up tracking alot of mud into our camper. Be sure to bring quarters for the laundry, there is no quarter machine and since the staff can be difficult to locate I didn't have an opportunity to ask if they have any to exchange. Close to Montrose and Black Canyons of the Gunnison National Park, easy access to these and highly recommend checking them out if you stay here!
