Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Ripon, CA

Woodward Reservoir Regional Park accommodates pets at all campsites throughout its extensive shoreline camping areas. Dogs must remain leashed when outside vehicles, with a maximum of three pets per site. Campgrounds feature water access directly from many sites, making it convenient for dogs that enjoy swimming. Thousand Trails Turtle Beach in nearby Manteca maintains large grassy sites next to water where pets can cool off during hot summer months. Most sites include fire rings with picnic tables, and permanent residents keep their properties clean, creating a generally pet-friendly atmosphere. Campground day use, tents, and every class of RV are easily accommodated. Reviews indicate the park is far better than most in the area despite limited amenities.

French Camp RV Park and Golf Course provides well-maintained facilities for travelers with pets, including dedicated dog parks that receive consistent praise from campers. The clean, flat sites accommodate various RV sizes with full hookups, while the landscaped grounds provide plenty of space for walking dogs. Dos Reis County Park offers an alternative for overnight stops, located half a mile from I-5 but far enough to reduce highway noise. While the park has small oddities like unclear registration signage and limited shower hours, it serves as a quiet municipal alternative to commercial campgrounds. Campers should note that weekend visitors occasionally ignore quiet hours, which can affect the experience when camping with pets. Nearby Woodward Reservoir becomes particularly busy during summer months and holidays, so spring and fall visits offer quieter conditions for campers with dogs.

    Rancho Seco Recreation Area

    All types of fun !

I love this place because it is about 45 minutes from the house.  There's plenty to do with lots of great sites.  The first time we went, they didn't have any annual passes because they lady was out that day. But the other day, we were able to finally get a season pass.  You can fish, hike, or swim here. The campsites are spacious and you don't feel over crowded if there is a family next to you. It's pet friendly. The store was recently redone and they offer a wide variety of items, from keep sakes to any necessity you may have forgotten ( lighter, logs, clothes shoes, etc... )  There also boat rental that are a fair price, plus you get them for an hour or so. ( You will have to check the prices and availability. ) There's a dog park for the dogs to roam free off the leash, which also has access to water/ beach area for the dogs only.

    Coyote Valley RV Resort

Buttoned up, formal atmosphere RV resort

High priced. Nice people at desk. Damon who helped us park was very friendly. Almost entirely high-priced big rigs, some of whom seem settled here but it's clean, 'orderly,' very quiet. Rigid rules keep the order; nice that no political flags/signs allowed. 2 dog parks and lots of grassy areas to take for a walk. Showers in locker-room/bldg, bathrooms nice and clean. Green grass. Also has laundry with 2.50 wash and.25 dry for 8 min. Skunk wandered by site in the night. Cool train sounds from nearby tracks at night. Was probably the most convenient to San Jose, otherwise we likely would've been in mtns. and too far away from town for our needs at the time. Would not be a regular choice for us.

French Camp RV Park and Golf Course

Quiet, clean and great dog parks!

I believe a lot of the people here are full-time. It’s a super sweet RV resort. It is very well-maintained, nicely landscaped, and they have some great dog parks. I came in after hours and the person managing the campground was kind enough to open up the office and get a space for me.

    Merced River Resort

    Shady spot

We stayed here for 5 weeks. Quiet park with lots of shady trees, a dog park and kids play area. River access is limited though because of the steep incline. No swimming spots but good fishing areas. Full hookups were much appreciated! The restrooms did not have working showers at the time hopefully that has been fixed.

What you should know

County resident restrictions: Some parks implement residency requirements during peak periods. "This campground is only open to Stanislas County residents," notes a reviewer about Woodward Reservoir during certain pandemic-related restrictions.

Varying shower facilities: Facilities range from modern to primitive across area campgrounds. At Acorn Campground, a camper reports: "Bathrooms with flush toilets and a single spacious shower. The shower needs to be updated."

Highway noise considerations: When selecting campgrounds near highways, noise can impact experience. "A half-mile off of I-5, far enough to dampen the interstate roar, and separated by a dike from the San Joaquin River," describes a camper at Dos Reis County Park.

Recreational equipment rentals: Boat and kayak rentals provide family activities without transporting equipment. "The marina to Lake Del Valle is a few miles away. They rent recreational boats as well as aluminum fishing boats. They have a swimming beach area and they rent kayaks as well," explains a camper at Del Valle Campground.
