San Luis Reservoir Algal Bloom Reduces to ___Danger___ Level: Public Urged to Avoid Water Contact. For more information, please see the Department of Water Resources' Press Release: https://water.ca.gov/News/News-Releases/2019/July-19/San-Luis-Reservoir-Algal-Bloom-at-Danger-Level-July-18 . The O___Neill Forebay at San Luis Creek has no warning levels.

Due to potential construction work to a Safety of Dams Project, the Basalt Campground will be off the reservation system beginning February 16, 2022, and will remain off the reservation system for a considerable period of time.  Please check the web periodically for any updates.

 

Los Banos Campground Information:

  • Max RV length of 25’.
  • The park gate closes at 6 p.m.  Please check in before or call the entrance kiosk before 6 p.m.  The park locks the campground gate in the winter from 6-6.  In the summer, the gate is locked from 10-6.  Kiosk phone number:  209-826-6393  

Los Banos Creek is open but due to a low rate continued DWR water release, 4x4’s are recommended for crossing the spillway.

There are issues with Group Camp B___s water; You will need to bring your own potable water.  The restroom has flushing toilets and the showers work.

Temperatures range from 40°F in winter to 90°F in summer. Visitors can explore the San Luis Reservoir and nearby hiking trails.

Pretty good camping

Camping spot was clean and a tall fire pit a good distance from the water and bathroom at site 22. Was hot af was the only issue for us, 103 and the sun just hurt. There were plenty of fish and fishing folks on the shore and boats all were catching.
