About

County

Woodward Reservoir, nestled near Oakdale, CA, is a solid spot for those looking to camp close to home. This place has got it all: full hookups for RVs, tent sites, and even spots right on the water if you snag a T-Island site. If you're into kayaking, you're in luck—many campers bring their kayaks and enjoy easy access to the water.

One of the standout features here is the full hookups, which visitors have found super convenient. The bathrooms are generally well-maintained, and there are plenty of them, some even with showers. If you're planning a family trip, this place is great. There's a market on-site for any last-minute needs, and pets are welcome, so you don't have to leave your furry friends behind.

The reservoir itself is a big draw. Whether you're into boating, jet skiing, or just lounging by the water, you'll find plenty to do. The campsites are close enough to the lake that you can bring your boat right up to your site after unloading. Just be aware that during certain months, they restrict water contact due to waterfowl activity, but that's a small price to pay for the overall experience.

For those who enjoy a bit of a social scene, this place can get lively. Some campers love the party atmosphere, especially during holidays when fireworks light up the sky. But if you prefer a quieter experience, try visiting in the spring or fall when it's less crowded.

In short, Woodward Reservoir offers a great mix of convenience, fun, and natural beauty. Whether you're here for a quick getaway or a longer stay, you'll find plenty to enjoy.

Close family camp ground

We have been there three times, twice for day trips when our kids were camping there and one time where our son's and daughter's family and us were camping there for three days weekend. Full hookups were use and enjoyed by all each time. On the T-Island sites you right on the water. Which is were we go. Both our kids family have Kayaks so that makes getting on the water great. Nice bathroom.

Close to home here in Modesto

They offer senior and military discounts. Both tent and RV full hookups around a lake. The only real problem is there are a few months during the year that they restrict the human contact with the lake water due to all the waterfowl poop in water. Many Geese that use their winter homes.

Party lake

Out in Central valley is Woodward Lake. Great for a day trip if you live in the Bay area and want to get away. They have boat access to the lake. My favorite thing about this lake campsite is almost every campsite is connected to the lake so if you have boat or jetski bring it up to the site after unloading. Also the campsites are super close to neighbors and people love to party here. To me this is a plus but I understand the other side of things just know that things get quite fun here and is 5 o'clock somewhere 24/7. Holidays usually offer fireworks. Overall great spot for family fun or even nonfamily fun haha .

Spring and fall

It’s best in the spring and fall. It’s nice and quiet and the spots are not too close to each other. Staff is nice and grounds are clean.

Quick Camping

Woodward is our family go to place to camp in the summer heat. Lots of campsites with room for tents or RVs. Fire pits and picnic tables at each site. Plenty of bathrooms, some with showers. Usually somewhat clean. Water feels good when it's 100+ degrees outside. Good prices. And you can bring your dogs.

Ultimate Camping

Reminds me a lot of the Modesto reservoir. I enjoy this location because it has stores nearby. I always need to take extra blankets and fire wood. It tends to get chilly and windy occasionally. Make sure to bring sunblock! Some Roads are dirt so bring goood water shoes or sandals.

Nice sites with water at your feet

This is a nice place to stop after visiting Yosemite to fill up with nice sunsets over the water. The best sites are in the far corners with most shade and room.

Located just outside of oakdale. Great local camping.

Located just outside of oakdale, very similar to that of Modesto reservoir as it is managed by the same people. Shallow and warm water great for swimming and water sports. Has paved looped campgrounds and has all necessary hook ups for rv/motorhome camping. Boat docks and tables located near the water good for bbqing and having a relaxing weekend close to home but away from crowds of people. They do have late festivals in the fall so plan accordingly

Well kept and lots of fun

This lake is a great place to camp. They have many camping spots but if you want hook ups and waterfront you have to make reservations on T-Island or Hackleberry Flats. Other wise it is first come first serve for the other areas of the lake. Great boating and swimming. Be aware that usually late September to Mid April, there is no body to water contact. It’s usually packed but go and enjoy!

Nice weekend getaway

My visit was Ok! The brush in the non hookup campsites needs to be cared for as it was knee high, an made it a little bit of a treck to the water. It's a great place for families.

Great Camping or Day Trip

Woodward Reservoir is a great place to camp with or without all the amenities...They have primitive camping for the folks that like roughing it as well as people that like the home away from home experience (electricity, showers & water). Bring your boat, jet ski, canoe, kayak etc...lots to do on the lake as well as swimming. Evenings can get kinda breezy so you might want to have a light jacket on hand. If you are camping bring your own tents etc as well as wood. The campground doesn't supply you with any nor do they sell it there last time I was there. They did have a vendor there last time selling floats hats and other sorts of things but it will cost you. The park is pack during the summer months on the weekends but during the off season if is a great time to go during the week when children are in school. I have tried fishing from the bank with no luck but maybe in the deeper water some may have better luck than I did. Oakdale is about 10 minutes away if you happen to forget anything. There is a grocery store right inside the city limits to pick up last minute things or ice. There are some shaded spots for camping and day use but its first come first serve so get there early and grab your spot and enjoy the fun....Hope this help out anyone who is thinking about visiting Woodward Reservoir. Sorry if I forgot anything. :)
