Spacious Oasis

Great oasis in the middle of the desert. The oaks provide tons of shade over the spacious sites. We got a double fee site and there was plenty of room to spare.

Great staging ground for hikes in the area like Eagle Rock or the backside of Palomar Mountain. You can also hook up with the PCT.

Gotta hit Garage 79 down the road. Sweet gas station converted to a bar with a killer taco truck.

Expect Snow in the Winter

Drove up for a quick trip from SD. Expected some snow patched but there was a 6” blanket! That’s on me for not checking before hand.

The campground is a nice set up on the lake . If you do head up in the winter, plan to bring a shovel because you will need to clear the site yourself.

Will for sure return in the summer or fall to check it out.

Will be back when 38 is open

Grabbed a last minute spot here on the way up to Big Bear. Campground was good for the most part. Big sites, beautiful views of San Gorgonio. Only downside was the openness of the sites.

The Tropical Storm washed out the Santa Ana River so 38 and Glass rd were closed. We tried hiking down to the river from the Campsite but the trails were washed out as well. Definitely plan on revisiting when the roads are repaired.

Perfect Remoteness

Stellar Campground. Large Sites in a peaceful valley. Road getting up is a little sketch but saw some Sedans up there. We were worried about getting a spot showing up at 4 on a Saturday but there were still a few open. And if not, there are plenty of accessible dispersed spots down the road.

Good Desert Spot

Remote spot down a sand road. My forester handled it well but I would be worried in sedan. There are a few camp sites with fire pits and a vault toilet but that’s pretty much it so if you’re looking for remote vibes it’s perfect. Definitely recommend bringing a table and canopy. It gets hot during the day and cools at night. You can scavenge firewood around the area.
