Best Campgrounds near Damascus, AR

The Damascus, Arkansas region features a variety of camping options within driving distance, primarily centered around lake-based state parks and recreation areas. White Oak Lake State Park, approximately 40 miles from Damascus, offers year-round camping with both tent and RV sites, many providing lakefront views. Logoly State Park near McNeil provides a more secluded tent camping experience with limited sites but a quieter atmosphere. Moro Bay State Park and Lake Columbia RV Park round out the options with concrete pads and water access. Most campgrounds in this region are established facilities rather than dispersed camping areas, with varying levels of amenities from primitive to full-service.

Camping conditions in this region are influenced by the humid subtropical climate, with hot summers and mild winters. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity, while winter nights can occasionally drop below freezing. Many campers note the cooling effect of lakeside sites, with one visitor reporting that lakefront areas "had to be 10 degrees cooler with the breeze off the lake." Most state parks require reservations, particularly for weekend stays and during summer months. Cell service varies significantly between campgrounds, with some visitors reporting spotty coverage at more remote locations. Weather events, including occasional tornadoes and severe thunderstorms, can impact camping plans, particularly during spring and early summer.

Lakefront sites consistently receive the highest ratings from campers visiting the region. Visitors to White Oak Lake State Park highlight the "well-maintained sites" and "manicured trails," with several mentioning the unique "Little Grand Canyon" rock formation as a must-see attraction. Fishing opportunities are frequently cited as a primary draw, with one camper noting that "trophy fish have been taken from this lake." Campground cleanliness is commonly praised, particularly regarding bathroom facilities. Some campers mention occasional noise from nearby gun ranges at certain parks. Wildlife sightings, including alligators in some lakes, add to the camping experience but require appropriate caution. The dense pine forests provide ample shade but can limit solar charging capabilities for those relying on this power source.

    Perfect Overnight

I needed a place to come in late that was safe and quiet. This spot is perfect. Expensive but worth it for the cleanliness and safety.

    Moro Bay State Park Campground

    Great little place

Quiet if you get a stop in the back area. Drove the other side and was close to highway so not sure on noise. Have a spot to rent boats and bikes and a few nice trails. Spot we had was perfectly level.

    Corney Lake South Shore Campground

    Wooded, Lake Views

Old campground along pretty lake in a national forest. Clean; the grounds are well maintained. The campground is confusing. Campsites are not marked. Looks like it was initially developed as a tent campground. There are shared vehicle parking pads; sites are not actually next to these - need to walkin a little. RV campers can probably park on the parking pads and walk to nearby picnic tables. Some sites have metal fire rings and lantern poles near picnic tables. Otherwise, it appears that previous campers had open campfires. Hammock camping is possible in a few areas. Clean his/hers vault toilet with tp and hand sanitizer. Water pumps scattered throughout campground; water was turned on duirng my stay. Sites in the middle of the campground are level; others slope down a little toward the lake. Sites are grass surfaces. No tent pads. No RV driveways to individual sites. Quiet, peaceful. No fee. Day Use area with fishing pier nearby. Partial shade; solar charging and Starlink access may be a challenge. Sporadic AT&T and T-Mobile service. Overall, this is a nice campground. I was the only camper during the nights I camped hare. A local resident stopped by to check up on me.

    Beaver Dam Campground

    Great visit

Very clean. Staff above and beyond helpful and friendly. Showers hot and cleaned daily. Trash removed every morning from receptacles. Sites roomy. Only a few sites have access to lake. All sites tent to big rig friendly with electric and water. Cell service good.

    Tom Merrill Recreation Area

    Outstanding

Beautiful and well kept. Bathrooms smelled great and clean. Shower hot and clean but needed a shower head and a touch up of paint. Bank fishing is good. Trails, a few exercise equipment, playground, and friendly hosts makes for a wonderful experience. Concrete pads, electric, water, grills, and fire pits all well maintained. Cell service operational but not top notch. Site 8 and 17 best for tents. Definitely would stay again.

    Sugar Creek Hunt Camp Dispersed

    Cute

Super cute little spot. It had plenty of space/sites for big rigs, cars, tents, and hammocks. Established bathrooms and trash receptacles. Absolutely 0 service for AT&T or Verizon. The road down there is full of huge potholes, be aware! Especially at night lol.
