White Oak Lake State Park Campground receives high ratings for its quiet atmosphere and well-maintained facilities, with visitors noting its excellent fishing opportunities and hiking trails. Campground density varies significantly throughout the region, with some locations offering more privacy than others, particularly during off-peak seasons when fewer sites are occupied.

      Beaver Dam Campground

      Tall Pines

I have been to this campground 3 times.  It is convenient to I-20 and  is set up for people with campers more than tenters.  You will pay for electricity regardless of whether you need it, but it is a reasonable $5 surcharge per site as of 2026 (Total is $25).

I love the forest atmosphere of this place. Most sites are well-spaced. Birds and squirrels are plentiful.   The lake is regularly used by fishermen.  The restrooms are quite old. There is a difference between the two restroom locations (the first one you come to is better imo), so you might check them to see your preference.  I did not use the showers.

Check ahead of time to see if there is a prescribed burn.  I got there at dusk and they had been burning all day. Everyone had abandoned their sites (there were tags all over the place, but not one rig besides the host's).   It was drizzling rain, and the fires were smoldering, and the light almost gone, so I chose a wide open site on the water and stayed anyway, sleeping in the cot in my SUV with all of the vents shut. It was fine.  By morning, the rain had cleared out. all the smoke.

      Bois D'Arc Lake Wildlife Area

      Dispersed campsies

Dispersed campsites around the lake. Zero services or amenities. No dumpsters, no water, no restrooms. ATT phone service is very limited. I have 1 bar. Very nice area, with boat ramp. At night, I listened to an owl close by and coyotes in the distance.

      Sunrise RV Park

Great location & customer service !

We called and let the office know we were 30 minutes away and the park office was closing in 5 minutes. Shannon said she would wait for us! She was so helpful and even offered to help us hook up as we arrived just as it was getting dark. She also let us know that she was on call and said to let her know if we had ant issues. Bathrooms were spacious and clean. Easy on off interstate and food/gas nearby. Small dog park but nice to let pups off leash for a bit. With fan on we didn’t hear the traffic from road. Perfect spot for overnight stay for 2 adults &our pups.

      Sunrise RV Park

      Great spot

Small stone roads that were clean and nice. Sites are very close together, but well maintained. Full hookups and pull through sites. Dog park and bath houses. Only complaint was the road noise was very close and when a semi tire blew it was extremely loud. All utilities are nice and neat on concrete slabs.

      Bois D'Arc Lake Wildlife Area

      Quiet spot on lake

This is a great spot! I stayed at the end near the boat dock and was surrounded on three sides by water. I awoke to the sound of waterfowl and enjoyed coffee in the lake breeze. There was another camper a good distance away.

      Crow Lake Primitive Sites

No annoying insects, just a place to park

This is just the one campsite, but it's quite large and there's a turnaround which could be used for a second campsite if you have a vehicle that can handle it. The one at the top of the slope is better for larger vehicles though.

I'm not sure if my bus would easily be able to handle going down that slope, but someone drove around it very easily in a Jeep with no trailer.

When you enter the area, you'll see a split in the road. Take the right side and that's where this USACE campground is at.

    Guide to McNeil

Camping sites near McNeil, Arkansas span across a region of pine-dominated lowlands with elevations averaging 200-300 feet above sea level. The area experiences humid subtropical conditions with annual rainfall around 50 inches, creating lush surroundings at many campgrounds. Most dispersed camping locations in this region are accessible via unpaved forest roads that can become challenging after heavy rainfall.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Lake Columbia RV Park provides excellent access to one of the area's best fishing spots. "The lake is beautiful and often covered in lilies. Even in the heat of the summer, the breeze off the lake, coupled with the shade of the trees, keeps it cooler than most of the area nearby," notes one camper at Lake Columbia RV Park.

Hiking trails: Explore the nature trails at Logoly State Park. "There is a nature house nearby that is open to the public for free during operating hours. It houses various small animals such as a crocodile, snakes, spiders, and lizards. Logoly is good for kids who need a tame introduction to nature. With trails, its a good place to take a day trip," according to a visitor at Logoly State Park Campground.

Boating: Rent kayaks or boats at Moro Bay State Park. "You can rent bikes, kayaks, pedal boats and small fishing boats," shares a camper. The park also features a dock with fishing boat rentals and bait sales for those looking to catch dinner from the water.

    What campers like

Privacy between sites: Beaver Dam Campground gets high marks for its spacious layout. "The campsites are huge, many with water views, and spaced out well. Very quiet and starry at night," writes a reviewer at Beaver Dam Campground. This spacing provides a more secluded experience than many other campgrounds in the region.

Clean facilities: Lake Claiborne State Park maintains exceptionally clean bathrooms. "Bath houses are new, clean and climate controlled," notes one camper. Another adds, "The bathrooms are clean and warm (welcome in the winter and spring). The pavement is well kept and great for kids to ride bikes or scooters."

Level camping pads: Campsites at Moro Bay State Park Campground receive praise for their level surfaces. "All the sites were concrete and level. Most sites had nice level tent pads as well," reports a visitor. Another camper confirms, "Campsites are level with all the amenities."

    What you should know

Free camping options: While many campgrounds charge fees, some dispersed sites are available at no cost. "Free camping with direct lake access," notes a camper at Bois D'Arce Lake Peninsula. This area provides more primitive camping without developed facilities but allows direct lake access.

Wildlife encounters: Deer sightings are common in several area campgrounds. "TONS of deer," reports a camper at Lake Claiborne. Campers should secure food items and maintain awareness, especially during dawn and dusk hours when wildlife is most active.

Seasonal factors: Summer camping requires preparation for high humidity and insects. "Hella mosquitoes," warns a camper at Bois D'Arce Lake Peninsula. Bug spray with DEET is essential from April through October, and campers should bring extra water during summer months when temperatures consistently reach the 90s.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature dedicated play areas for children. "There was a large playground for children," notes a visitor at Moro Bay State Park. The recreation field there is also described as "fantastic" for family activities.

Educational opportunities: "The King of the Mountain Trail is my favorite because of its wooden bridge and tiny waterfall," shares a camper at Lake Claiborne State Park Campground. This park offers marked hiking trails that are manageable for children and provide nature education opportunities.

Water activities for kids: "There's a nice little beach where the kids can play and a playground area as well," mentions a Lake Claiborne visitor. Several campgrounds offer shallow swimming areas specifically designed for younger campers during warmer months.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: For RVers requiring full hookups, Magnolia RV Park offers comprehensive services. "This is a nice Campground with a small lake, very clean and good space between RV," notes a visitor at Magnolia RV Park LLC.

Leveling considerations: Some campgrounds require additional equipment for leveling. "Not level ground, but we managed with enough blocks to get it level," reports an RVer at Lake Claiborne State Park regarding their back-in site.

Late arrival options: "We came through very late (12 pm) gave her a call and she got us taken care of! Very clean, well maintained, full hook ups and lots of extras!" shares a camper who needed after-hours check-in at Magnolia RV Park.
