New Lake D'Arbonne State Park, managed by LA State Parks and Recreation, sits on the shores of Lake D'Arbonne in Bernice, Louisiana, giving campers direct access to one of north Louisiana's larger inland lakes. The campground runs year-round and accommodates a range of setups, from tent sites with sand pits to full-hookup RV spots with electric, water, and sewer connections. Cabins, lodges, and yurts round out the lodging options for those who want a roof overhead.
The sites themselves back up to either the forest or the lake, and reviewers consistently note that the bath houses stay clean throughout the week. Bruce F. noted the park was "very nice and quiet at night" even on a packed weekend, which speaks to how well the layout absorbs crowds. Weekdays tend to draw smaller numbers. The park can fill up on weekends, so reservations are worth booking in advance.
Fishing piers and a boat dock give anglers and paddlers easy lake access, and kayak and canoe rentals are available on-site. The trail system covers hilly terrain through cypress and mixed forest, and the park also has an 18-hole disc golf course, tennis courts, and horseshoe pits. A large swimming pool operates seasonally from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Day-use pavilions can be reserved for group events, and a meeting room in the visitor center is also available. Pets are allowed throughout the park.
Worth noting: a tornado struck the park in March 2021, and some trail sections were still being restored as of early 2022. Cheri H. described the detours as easy to navigate and noted how much had already been recovered. The park also has WiFi, a dump station, and laundry facilities on-site. Campers looking for places to camp around Bernice will find additional options in the surrounding area, including D'Arbonne Pointe about five miles to the southeast.
