    Gunter Hill

    Overnight at Gunter Hill Cmpgrd

We stayed overnight on site 35. It has full hookups , however the sewer was a bit far from the paring pad. If you have a single black tank hose this may be N issue. However, seeing as we only stayed 1 night I did not plan on hooking up anyway. The site is right across from the bathroom/showers which are individual rather than community type layout , and they were clean and well maintained. For the kiddies there is also a sizable modern playground right next to the bathhouse. The park attendant at the entrance was very pleasant and my pass was ready and available in the rack outside the check-in station which made it extremely easy. It was a Thursday night following 4th of July and there were several others there but only a small number of other campers. Reservations can be made online at recreation.gov

    The Backyard RV Resort

    Great Campground

Reservations made yhe night before online. The campground has not changed nanes yet but will be known as Unhitched Montgomery. Some short time stays and a bunch of long term stays. Clean bathhouse and great outdoor gathering areas, really like "the hangout" area. Pet friendly. Laundry available. It seems secluded but there are a lot of conveniences nearby. People at front desk were very friendly. Easy pull through sites. Highly recommend.

    Chewacla State Park Campground

    Close to Buc-ees and I-85!

I called on Sunday afternoon and immediately connected to a young lady who assured me that a site was available. The loop is nicely designed, full hookups, passing your target on the left (better visibility). There are glamping tents for rent. Several hiking trails, including a waterfall trail are inside the gate checkpoint. The park is close to town, meaning abundance of food options and cheap gas (2.499) on June 6, 2025.

Kick Back Ranch & Event Center, LLC

    Best. Christmas. Ever

We stayed at Kickback Ranch over the Christmas holiday, and it was the perfect setup for our family. I reserved an RV site for my teardrop camper—it was peaceful, quiet, and had everything I needed to unwind. I also booked a few cabins for the rest of the family so everyone could have their own space. The Wagon Wheel cabin ended up being our gathering spot—it was spacious, well-stocked, and made meals and family time easy and comfortable. We were able to hop on the Wi-Fi when needed, and the outdoor grills came in handy for cooking a few good meals together. The staff were kind and helpful anytime we had questions, but otherwise let us enjoy our stay without interruption. It was a great winter getaway, and having everyone close but with their own privacy made it even better. Would absolutely come back.

Wind Creek Atmore Casino RV Park

Free Overnight also available in the parking lot

This is a great spot to stay the night. The casino has an actual full RV park here as well, but they also allow overnight parking in the RV day parking area, or even in the regular car parking lot if you prefer. The RV parking area is there for patrons to use while they’re inside gambling or eating at the restaurant, so they expect that people will want to park there for the night on occasion, since the casino is open 24hrs. We stayed for free in the RV parking area for the night with no issues. We went in to the RV park office to ask permission and the manager was very nice and welcoming.

Huge grassy area for the dogs. Great night, very quiet. There are 3 actual RV “spots” and then about 5 more level concrete pads, if the spots are taken. Nobody else stayed the night when we stayed there. This spot seems to be where the sheriffs like to come and chill.

    Deer Run RV Park

    Good Stop Over

Our GPS led us directly to the campground (CG) on US-231, conveniently located on the west side of Troy, AL. Check-in was quick and hassle-free. We stayed at site 60, which featured full hookups (FHUs) and a level cement pad with well-positioned utilities. Water pressure was high, so we used a reducer. The CG offers WiFi, but we couldn’t locate the guest network during our overnight stay. This wasn’t an issue, as we relied on our Starlink and T-Mobile home internet, which performed well despite just one bar on our phone. Verizon reception was also solid at three bars. The CG provides cable, which we didn’t use, but our camping friends in site 59 confirmed it worked well. The older section of the CG is shaded with mature trees, while the newer area has fewer, making it ideal for satellite users. Compared to our last visit a few years ago, the only noticeable upgrade was the addition of tiny houses near the office. The CG remains clean and well-maintained. One downside was the heavy traffic at our site from long-term residents returning from work, many of whom didn’t observe the speed limit. Deer Run also offers water and electric sites in the newer back section, which we plan to request for future short stays.

    Gunter Hill

    Nicely renovated campground

We had a nice stay in site 67. The campground was renovated sometime in the not too distant past with large concrete pads, as well as water and electrical hook ups. Many sites have full hook ups, all at a reasonable price. It seems like they were able to retain all the trees when they put the pads in, which retains the wooded feel of the campground. Some sites are right on the water. The bathrooms were large but could have been better maintained. All around a very nice campground.
