    Georgia Mountain RV Resort

    Amazing Campground

We are staying here for several months as we just sold our house and will be traveling FT. Rusty and the entire team have been great to work with! The RV park is great with all the trees - they are adding another 70 sites in the back with a ton of new amenities! Washer/dryer available for $2 per load!! Only a few minutes to Guntersville and the lake! You can walk the lake, go grab a bite to eat or go down to City Harbor! We camped at Georgia Mountain RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

    Battlefield Campground & RV Park

    Woodsy Wayside

Battlefield Campground is an extremely convenient RV park located right of I-75 about 20 minutes south of Chattanooga. It is very easy to get to, but part of that convenience comes with an absence of quiet; the interstate runs directly beside the campground, and is visible from the storage sites across from sites 11-24.

This is an excellent place for long-term campers, and it includes a nice playground, a pool, and a camp store/clubhouse. We could not get close to the pool or playground as they were closed due to COVID-19, which was comforting that they are taking public safety seriously. Sites include 50 and 30 amp full service, and seven tent sites in the middle of the campground that also include electric. There are seven camping cabins spaced throughout the campground that have outside picnic tables and grills, and beds inside as well as electricity.

Most of the sites here are nicely wooded, and as the area is slightly hilly there are elevation changes between several rows of sites which allows for a little more privacy than many RV parks offer.

Downsides to this park are the highway noise, and the campground roads are paved but in need of maintenance; the road is eroded in a lot of places.

Upsides are the sites are shady and well landscaped, and there are great amenities for families looking to stay here for extended periods of time, as well as the proximity to Chattanooga, Chickamauga Battlefield, and Ringold/Ft. Oglethorpe.

    Wills Creek RV Park

    Good Location

Quiet RV park close to Ft Payne and surrounding parks such as Desoto state Park. Close to Little River Canyon waterfall among others. (A must see). Sites at park very close together and our dually truck had to be parked sideways in front or back of site. One side of park is for long term stays while the other side is for up to two week stays. Other than that friendly check in and was able to have ups delivery. Available Sites are able to be chosen when get there.  Internet using Verizon (nomad) for work is only ok. My husband was able to work on conference calls ect but had one dropped call and while he was working I wasn’t able to use our internet. Evening hours when trying to stream sling was difficult to non existent the second week of our stay. Gave it 4 stars due to friendliness and ups delivery.

    Battlefield Campground & RV Park

    Convenient and functional

Battlefield Campground & RV park is locates right off the exit in Ringgold, Ga, right behind the Georgia Winery, so it is very close to Chattanooga. The campground seems to have a lot of long term guests, so I wouldn’t recommend it if you are looking for a relaxing retreat to the woods. The sites are very close to each other, and most of them were full when we stayed. We were on site #69, right across from the pool. The Campground does have some nice amenities like the pool, and playground, dog park, and the pavilion, which I’m not sure what this space is used for, but it was nicely furnished and could be used to host a party or something. The restrooms were exceptionally clean! The bathhouse located in the pavilion was very nice. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating. The location was convenient for us to get back and forth from Chattanooga, but I would only return out of necessity, as I prefer to be a little more secluded when I’m camping.

    Holiday Travel Park

    Primarily an RV park

I’m giving this campground 4 stars as an RV park, not as a good spot for tent camping.

There were pros and cons, so I’ll start with the cons- the campground is surrounded by what looked to be a mobile home community. If you stay in an rv site, you probably won’t notice this, but the tent with electric sites are on the outer loop, so we noticed, and heard commotion from the road and community well into the night. The tent/electric sites were slightly wooded, but most are basically in the back yard of said community, so you don’t really have the “camping in the woods” feeling. We were the only occupants of tent/electric and there was not a single tent in the primitive field. The campground is pretty pricey also, compared to other places I’ve stayed.

Pros- This grounds was very clean and well maintained. Every site has gravel, and they had a pile of fill gravel, so I guess they fill it in when it gets low in spots. The restrooms and showers were also very clean and well kept. While I believe there are some long term residents here, the sites were not very cluttered as many are at other parks.

The campground is really close to the exit, and several restaurants, and really close to Chattanooga. There’s a camp store with essentials, including ice and firewood. There’s a pool that looks to be very clean and well maintained.

This is a great spot to spend the night if you are visiting Chattanooga and just need a place to stay close by, but I would say if you are just wanting to camp out, you could find a better spot in the great outdoors for that.

    Holiday Travel Park

    Sunny and Open RV Park

Located just barely on the Georgia side of the GA/TN border, Holiday Travel Park has a community feel with its many full hook-up sites, most of which are extremely close together.

We are tent campers and there is not much here if you are not in an RV--they are nestled into the back of the campground, and have the benefit of a large grassy area so kids can run and stretch their legs, but quiet and privacy are still lacking. There is also a dog park located at the campground entrance so the four legged kids can run freely, and a playground next to the dog park, however it is in full sun so will be hot during the summer months--which is the perfect time to use the pool! Unfortunately due to COVID-19 both the pool and playground are closed at the time of this review, but it is good to know they are there once public spaces can open again.

This campground has two sides; to the right of the main entrance is decidedly more shady while the side to the left gets more sun, and it seemed as though the shady side hosted many campers who were there long term. We even saw one set-up where it looked like someone had a couple of tomato plants growing in containers! These sites are all very close together but still had a peaceful vibe under the shady trees. The sunnier side (sites in the 100s) is where the playground, tent sites, and large grassy field are, so while the sites are still very close together there is a little bit more public space for larger groups or families.

There are three camping cabins that rent to groups of 2 people, and two camping cottages; a loft for groups of 4, or a one bedroom for groups of 6. Cabins and cottages have beds (you must bring your own linens), electricity, running water, grills, picnic tables, and the loft has a small kitchen.

This is a great stop for campers who want to see the Chattanooga/Chicakmauga area, and it has great amenities for families. However this is not a campground for those looking for a relaxing experience in nature due to proximity to the interstate and surrounding neighborhoods, and the small sites and lack of privacy from fellow campers.

    Lake Guntersville State Park Campground

    Lovely area to stay!

We arrived one day early which was semi planned, but we were not in the spot we were staying for 11 days. Thank goodness because the pic on the site Vs reality was a pretty big difference. We have a big rig and no way we would fit. I figured I would have to finagle something in my own to get us a different site. NOPE! They guy at the gate helped us out and 5 min later we had a site! Store has a few things in it, including some Lake stickers/shirts/etc with Lake Guntersville on them. There is a little library box by the store with books people have put in after reading. There are sites for full hookup, water/electric, or primitive. There are long term sites as well. There is plenty to do! Beach, boat, water pad, basketball and tennis courts. Laundry available. Nice bathrooms and bathhouse. Dog park for bigs and Littles! The power went out once for a couple minutes and then again due to an accident on the mountain. There are neat things within the park to see and do. Hike/trails, golf, fish, zip line, horseback riding. A must stop is to see the donkeys, goats and emus. Towing to get here is interesting, but doable! We have a 42 ft RV with a 16 ft boat behind and we made it. Close enough to town but you have to go over the mountain. There are some neat stores down town and a farmers market.

    Honeycomb Campground

    Lots of full time residents

This campsite had beautiful waterfront lots but many of the interior sites were full of long term RVs who have personalized their lots to the extreme. I felt it detracted from a gorgeous location.

My kids did love the beach front entrance that was built for lake access and swimming. The camp store was well supplied. The staff was also great!

We have been here many times, it's one of our favorite state parks! The hiking and scenery is one you don't want to miss! If you can, make the hike down to Cherokee Falls and pack your swimsuit and a picnic! As far as camping, they have literally everything a camper needs and more!! RV, hookups, tent, picnic tables, grills, firepit, yurts, cabins, restrooms, bathhouse, laundry, group lodging, etc. Super friendly and pretty clean!

    Rock Climbing

This is a really great place to rock climb! They have RV hookups, tent camping and primitive camping! I reccomend to try and camp under an overhang! It's just really cool. There's also a really easy climb to overlook Weiss Lake! We were literally among the clouds! The park also offers a bath house which was very clean and even heated in the winter! There is a really nice park and pavillion with picnic tables too that the kids played in and we had lunch!

    Lookout Mountain-Chattanooga West KOA

Private campground feel at KOA convenience

As exclusively tent campers, I have always steered away from KOAs. But given how close this one is to my home city of Chattanooga, and how beautiful the Lookout Mountain region is, I decided to do a drive-thru tour just to check out a campground within 30 minutes of home, and this is definitely a place I would love to camp, even in a tent!

Convenient to I-59, this KOA is in an extremely rural part of northern Georgia, giving it a backcountry feel despite how easy it is to access. And while it is still primarily for RV campers, they do have a some designated tent-only sites that are on their own leg of the road, and spaced out to provide some privacy--site D in particular had more of a feel of a private campground to it.

There are two distinct sections to this campground; when you first enter, there is a turnoff to the right that takes you to lower elevation. These sites are more spaced out, have trees (or bamboo!) in between them, and are generally larger. This is also the side where the tent and group camping sites are. Group camp sites allow one tent per site, and RV sites are all 50A full service except for sites 60 and 61 which are 30A. Tent sites have water and electric available but are for one vehicle and tent only.

To the left of the welcome center upon entering sites are closer together, with a combination of 30A and 50A full services hookups. There are still plenty of trees, particularly along the uppermost loop (sites 16, 18, 20, and 22). This side is also where the majority of the cabins are.

The coolest aspect of this campground for me was the massive jumping pad they have, and I had to promise my kids we would take an overnight trip here just so they could use it! It is restricted to ages 16 and under (and appeared to be closed, along with the playground and saltwater pool, due to COVID-19), but looked like an amazing addition, especially for families who may be staying here long-term and need a way for their kids to get some energy out without leaving the campground!

This would still not be my primary choice for tent camping as it is still largely geared towards RVs, however the group camping, the wooded feel, and the convenience to Chattanooga make this an amazing play to stay, whether it is folks in the city looking to get into nature without a long drive, fulltimers who want long-term accommodations while they take advantage of all the region has to offer, or travelers just looking for a quiet place to stay while passing through.

We have visited off and on for years. This was our second bad experience. The long term campers are rude to teenagers when adults aren’t present. Then we “incurred” fees. Management will not return a call and you can only leave messages. Very sad that new ownership has led to this.

    Battlefield Campground & RV Park

    Adequate but not special

We booked the very last sight open in this campground for a thur-sun tourney in Chattanooga. It was about a 20 minute drive to the fields from the campground even though it was in Georgia. There are very few campgrounds around this area so if you need to stay near Chattanooga book ahead of time. Campground had everything you need and showers and bathrooms were clean and always available. Most people staying in this campground looked to be staying long term. Sights were too close to eachother for my liking but a few sights back in the timber were spread out more. Nothing special about the campground at all but nothing to really complain about other than lack of privacy.

    Camping here is great

We stayed here in May 2019. It was very enjoyable. Full hook-ups. Bath house clean and functioned normal. Sites really don't have water views on even on the water that we saw. They have boat ramps and docks/slips. Tons of deer in the park. Drive slow dusk to dawn. We ate at the lodge and it was just average. Lake is beautiful and fishing is great. Nice cleaning station also. We will go back in the future. Also has golf course but I did not play. Sites are level and easy to back into.

Lots to do when the amenities open.

No amenities open, nice spacing between sites. Water, power and sewer. Nice and clean bath houses with laundry facilities. Small store with tons of r.v. parts. Restaurant on site with golf carts driving thru campground offering snacks. Vendors selling pork rinds that were delicious. Also small farmers market with outstanding selection.

The bad. We had to leave a day early, they will not give refunds. We were there 4 nites, paid for 5. Not real friendly staff. People there long term just let dogs roam and poop wherever although strict guidelines say you must clean up, they don't. They also don't mow the grass before you get there or clean up the sites. People on weeknights are loud and until 2 a.m. we could not get to sleep. Security finally came through and shortly after it was quiet.

    Great Stay

Overall good stay. Little bit pricey. But the spots are nice. We pull a fifth wheel toy hauler. Had a pull thru spot with full hook up. Restroom/shower house close by that was very clean. Contactless check in. Online reservation. We brought our dogs along, and everybody had a dog here with them. You do have a little bit of yard in front of your camper but your neighbor is a little bit close. Close to Chattanooga and the sites. We did the zoo, aquarium and Rock City. Long weekend trip.

    Harrison Bay State Park Campground

Good For Long-Term Camping, With Lots of Amenities

Harrison Bay is a huge park, with four camping loops (3 for RVs, 1 for tents), and a large marina, located on the Chickamauga Reservoir of the Tennessee River. It is about thirty minutes from downtown Chattanooga, making it a great place to stay for awhile if you want to check out the area's numerous hiking opportunities, or if you are here to see the various downtown attractions. This would be a good park to stay at long-term as a base-camp, thanks to the numerous in park amenities and to enjoy the Chattanooga area.

Situated again the bay, the majority of the park is surrounded by water, and as such many campsites have views of the lake. Loop A is an RV loop with very little shade, and is closest to the playgrounds and picnic pavilions. Sites 7-11 and 13-14 in this loop have the most shade, with most other sites in full sun. Loop B is an RV loop with more shade on the sites on the northern end and more sun on the southern. Sites 9, 18, 22, and 25 are next to an area with poor drainage so bugs may be an issue here in the summer, and sites 29 & 30 have great views of the lake. Loop C is the last RV loop, also with a lot of shade, and sites 23-25 and 35-36 are right on the water, almost with their own private beaches. Loop D is the tent-only loop; this loop is very shaded, and the sites are fairly large and can accommodate most size tents. The northern end of the loop has clear waterfront views. Sites 13 & 14 are close to the restrooms with view of the water, and sites 15-19 have mostly unobstructed water views. These sites are very close together, but if you go on weekdays or early in the season it's unlikely there will be many other campers there.

In addition to camping, the park offers fishing, boating, hiking, a playground, a restaurant, swimming pool, interpretive center, nature viewing platform, and several picnic pavilions. In warmer months this is a popular spot for locals to come swim in the lake as well, so bring bathing suits and expect a lot of company. Most of the trails are short, however there is a 4 mile trail that goes around an "island" near the marina, and two smaller islands past the campground loops that can be combined for a 1 mile loop. These islands make excellent places to watch the sunset; the large island closest to the marina even has a bench facing southwest for this purpose.

Firewood is available for purchase at a camp store just outside the park, and residents often sell firewood roadside on the way to the park entrance.

This is not a place for solitude; it can get quite crowded during the summer between campers and locals, and there are residential areas on most sides of the lake, visible from the park. Don't come here looking for a wilderness experience. However for an outdoor vacation that has plenty of activities and is close to urban conveniences, Harrison Bay is an excellent choice!
