Shellmound RV Resort & Campground

Privately managed with no advance reservations through RecGov, Shellmound RV Resort & Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis adjacent to Nickajack Dam. The facility accommodates RVs up to 60 feet with electric and water hookups, plus a dump station for waste disposal. Campers can access the property by vehicle, boat, or on foot.

The RV section features closely spaced sites with minimal privacy but consistent maintenance and cleanliness. A separate primitive camping area sits behind the RV section, divided by trees and offering both wooded spots and an open field with lake views. "Water, power, no sewer but there is a dump site here," notes Adam A.. The day-use area includes a swimming section, dock, and boat ramp on Nickajack Lake.

Bathrooms and shower facilities serve both camping areas, though tent campers should plan shower times around the single shower per restroom. The property includes a playground and allows pets throughout. Water activities dominate recreation options given the direct lake access. Campers exploring the broader region can find additional campgrounds near Jasper for alternative stays. Call the morning of arrival to secure a spot, as the owners will place a cone to hold sites for same-day callers.

Guests commonly noted clean facilities and excellent playgrounds on the lake. Many appreciated the swimming area and boat access, though some found RV sites crowded and the no-reservation policy inconvenient.

Quick trip on our way through

We went through the area on our tour of the southeastern and southern coast. Due to technical issues we arrived well after dark. The owners were available and gave us choices on sites. The bathrooms/shower areas were convenient and clean. We left early the next morning so didn’t get a chance to really check out the campground, but what we saw was nice. Easy to find in a really beautiful area of the country. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Adorable & Peaceful

This has got to be the cutest RV park we’ve stayed at yet! Water, power, no sewer but there is a dump site here. Garbages conveniently placed throughout & well maintained grounds. The playground for the kids was awesome! You’re next to a dock on the TN River, so water activities were easy & fun! They have the entire campground decorated for the holidays and it is adorable!

Good but could be better

Only one shower per bathroom so be ready to shower at odd times if you stay in a tent. Make sure you call the morning of to make sure there is a spot open before driving down. They don’t do reservations, which I really wish they did. But they will put a cone in your site if you call that morning. They have a swimming area that you can walk to which is nice.

Nothing to see here.....

I24 goes right through Jasper, Tn and crosses an epically picturesque section of Nickajack Lake. Nickajack dam is within a few minutes of the I24 Jasper exit and Shellmound Campground is located adjacent.

Shellmound is "privately" managed and can not be reserved through RecGov.

The RV section is crowded with no privacy, but maintained and clean. There is a playground area at the front and it is separated from the day use area.

The primitive campground is located behind the RV Campground and seperated by trees from the RV's. There are a few spots within the trees to camp and a "parking" area. The rest of the primitive area is in a large field with an awesome view of the lake, pick a spot. So depending on when you arrive and how crowded the area is you may not get a tree or next to the lake:) there are picnic tables and fire rings. I didn't inquire as to their maximum capacity.

The day use area is very nice, manicured with a swimming area, dock and boat ramp. The water was surprisingly clear and COLD!

I noticed a sign for Little Cedar Mountain Trail on the way out, but did not have the opportunity to check it out. Maybe next time.
