A winding, one-way hilltop road leads campers through this forested campground in northwest Georgia's foothills. The steep entrance from the main park road requires careful navigation, but once inside, the serpentine layout creates natural privacy between sites as the road curves around varying elevations and mature trees.
Most of the 25 sites accommodate RVs up to 60 feet with full hookups, though the first dozen sites sit closer together with less screening. Sites toward the back of the loop offer more space and separation, with several featuring separate areas for additional tents alongside the main camping pad. Kara's C. notes "all of the sites were heavily shaded allowing us to enjoy the outdoors in 90+ degree temps." The gravel sites remain level, and each includes a fire ring, picnic table, and designated seating areas.
Two stocked lakes anchor the park's fishing opportunities, with an accessible fishing pavilion and paddle boat rentals available during operating season. Trail options include loops around both lakes plus a 2-mile round trip to the historic marble quarry, where a small waterfall flows after recent rains. The campground features a playground at the far end, though campers should consider proximity when selecting sites if noise sensitivity is a concern.
The bathhouse provides hot showers with strong water pressure, along with laundry facilities and heating during cooler months. A small camp store sells ice and firewood, while the campground host assists with bicycle helmet loans and local information. Site-specific reservations help secure preferred locations, particularly important for larger RVs navigating the winding access road. For additional camping options in the region, visitors can explore campgrounds near Summerville.
The park operates year-round with rates from $15-180 per night depending on site type and season. Cell coverage appears limited based on camper reports, making this a solid choice for those seeking a break from connectivity while remaining close to town amenities.
Description
Surrounded by rural countryside and the Chattahoochee National Forest, this quiet park in northwest Georgia offers outstanding fishing on two stocked lakes. Visitors can hike along three miles of lake loop trails and relax in swings while watching for the many bluebirds that live in the park. The trailhead to the scenic 60-mile Pinhoti Trail is only a 1.6-mile hike away.
Children especially enjoy the playground, feeding ducks from the lake's boardwalk and renting pedal boats. A small campground and four cottages are nestled on tree-covered hillsides. This park was named for Rep. James H. Sloppy Floyd who served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1953 until 1974.
