We are a quiet, year round campground nestled in the heart of Amish country in southern middle Tennessee. Our small campground borders Tennessee's oldest Amish farm, now the Amish Heritage Farm Museum which provides enchanting views of the farm, horses and spectacular sunsets. If it's peace and quiet you're after, you have found it! From the steady clip clop of Amish horse and buggies passing by, to the faint sound of roosters crowing in the morning, our campground offers something truly special. Leave the hustle and bustle behind, and enjoy the slow paced life of Amish country. For more info visit: https://www.facebook.com/RestCamp

    Beautiful and Free!!

Came in on a Tuesday in late October and found about 10 campsites occupied, so lots to choose from. The campsite has two adjoining loop roads. The lower loop has a bathroom with flush toilets and sinks.

The campground appears to be very well maintained. There is not much privacy between campsites as there are only a few trees and no shubbery between campsites.

We met two other camping groups that were simply delightful Americans.

    Hey, It’s Free

I was really looking forward to this place on my way to Arkansas. However, as soon as I turned into the camping area I was “greeted” by not one but TWO off leash dogs barking and running toward my van (they were not together). Fortunately, I took vinegar spray with me when I took my dog for a walk. It was a useful deterrent when one of the loose dogs ran at us. I yelled to put the dog on leash but of course nobody emerged from the van. On the return trip I made sure to have my spray and body pointed straight toward the dog who was just waiting for me to turn around so he could attack again. If you want a flat spot, a pull through spot, or one that you can’t smell the toilets, get there early! I got there around noon and maybe 15 people were there. By sundown most spots were taken…on a Tuesday. Restrooms toward the entrance were nice with running water and flush toilets.

    Older campgrounds

It’s a large campground with a lot of full time campers on site. Nice lake at 102 sq acres in size. Did have an issue that most sites are only 50 or 30amp hookups only, so I had to borrow a 30 to 120 adapter. The hiking trails were closed which sucked since I was looking forward to a hike with the dog. They are building a new pool. Good luck getting a lakeside site since I was told only 8 are available and are full most of the time.

Really enjoyed the primitive camping site. The bathhouse was clean and there are lots of trails to hike. Very close proximity to Huntsville, making it easy to resupply or just go out and enjoy the city. 🌲🌳🏞️ #PrimitiveCamping #HikingAdventures #CloseToHuntsville

    Difficult site

Deep ditches around my site made it very, very difficult to park my van - terrified that one of my wheels would fall off the edge. Don’t think I will be back.

    Beautiful, North Alabama State Park

Scenic Mountain View! Arrived and greeted by staff at the State Park guard gate, then checked into campground at separate office. Map and instructions given. Nice gravel back-in-site, water and 50amp hook ups. Picnic table and fire-ring at each site. Lots of trees. Sites spaced but not private, not at 33. Lots of traffic , since it is at the entrance and lots of kids riding bikes behind our site as well as tents directly in front of us. Will venture out and explore after the rain, and update as I get info. We Have Starlink, still with very poor reception((under 50) and little to no connectivity with T-Mobile. Would not reserve here for 2 weeks again at this site, for lack of privacy and for partial hook ups.

    Recently renovated camper sites

Definitely remember to look at the Park's website for the best way into the park. Our RV specific GPS was waaaay off! All the camper pads have recently been redone, so it's pretty easy to find a flat site. We enjoyed the Japanese tea garden, and look forward to coming back for more hiking and site seeing. 1 washer/dryer per bath house-- not new but got the job done. ATT and Verizon signals weren't super strong but good enough to stream some TV and check email, but we used a high gain antenna.

Correct Location of Merimwether Lewis Campground

This is pinned wrong on Dyrt. If you clicked Waze directions on the other pin and you’re heading down Jennie Smith road, you’re heading the wrong way.

Sites a little closer than I like and no showers, but the ride in was beautiful and it’s free. Good place for a stopover.

Only a small area is for short term , no wifi

No wifi per office with no known date of repair. Relatively quiet, lots of vehicle traffic and golf carts. Office staff is very helpful and friendly. Majority of park is longterm. Dog friendly, no dog park at location. Close to shopping but far enough away for quiet.

Plenty good enough for a long weekend

We visited Honeycomb a few days before Thanksgiving and had a good time.

PROs: • Beautiful views from lakefront sites • not crowded, very quiet in mid-November • hard packed gravel pad was level left-to-right, no leveling blocks under tires needed • easy driving distance to lots of local activities/attractions

CONs: • only one working bathroom/shower house…could be an issue when the campground is crowded considering their are no sewage hookups on site • sites are pretty close together, not much room for outdoor family activities • WIFI (extra charge) was very inconsistent

    Needs TLC

The campground is quite large with lots of things to explore. A lot of the roads, especially around the campsites were in need of repair. I had full hookup with 30 amp service, though not all of the sites have sewer. All of the lakeside sites are taken up by resident campers (of which there are a lot). I had absolutely no cell service through Verizon and my T-Mobile 5g internet had no reception either (even with a booster). Luckily, I was able to rely on my Starlink. A lot of the buildings looked like they had seen better days, but were maintained as well as they could be. Staff were nice and pleasant. Meriwether Lewis death/gravesite was nearby and interesting to check out. Not a whole lot else to do in the area. There is a low bridge (11ft) that you need to pass under to get onto the Natchez Trace Parkway. If you can’t fit, you have to take Napier road north several miles. There is a wal-mart in town about 20 or so minutes away.

    A beautiful great location

So many bad reviews for this site. Complainers!! Yes big hills and horrible roads in the park, but your in the sticks, sooo.... Plenty level spots. Some Sites are full and some are partial hook-ups. Plenty spots w easy access and plenty not so easy. Wifi is available to purchase $25 for the week, no issues thus far. Beautiful location. Natchez Trace Pkwy has plenty to learn and explore!!! Cute, lively little towns nearby that have kept up that old town look with awesome shops! In Hohenwald there is an elephant sanctuary. It has a location in town to teach about that sanctuary (No elephants are kept there)

    Beautiful State Park

The main campground is very nice. There are a lot of shaded, private spots, but some of the sites are a little close together. Some of them aren’t very level, so just keep that in mind!

The bathrooms are very clean, bright and heated in the winter. One of the bath houses has separate showers that are completely private.

There are many traditional hiking trails throughout the park, but there’s also paved paths circling around the campground as well.

The gift shop and visitors center was large and had a lot of useful things for sale, as well as kids toys and books. Our daughter really enjoyed it. The playgrounds are also very well maintained.

We stayed the final weekend open for the season and it was a fantastic stay. There are paved paths for miles right there off the campsites. There are other trails as well not paved with but more tugged/traditional trails with bridges and cottonmouths lol be careful. The sites are close enough to the water for bank fishing. The bathrooms were great too. Clean when we arrived and convenient to our site #44, we were right across from them. These were a private bathroom shower situation in each door. The other shower house had men and women bathrooms and private showers separately. We visited the gift shop and information center, the people working there are helpful and friendly. I definitely recommend. We stayed just in time before the temps dropped from 80 degrees one day the day we left dropped to 45 during the day.

    Run by tyrants!

First, I’ve stayed here many times tent camping with more than one tent on one site with no issues. We took a camper this time and met up with some family who would be staying in a tent. We set up site and hung up a hammock, and within minutes, an employee came and rudely told us our set up wasn’t allowed. We had to take down our hammock (never had that happen anywhere else before), and forced us to pay an extra $75 to rent the neighboring site for our family to set up their tent for the weekend. When they came back around, they said, “You didn’t have to move your tent, you just had to rent the extra site.” It made zero sense, especially when we had noted at reservation that we’d have more than one vehicle, a tent, a camper, and 4 adults + 3 kids. Next came check out. We waited for 3 hours for our turn to use the dump site, we were all packed up and ready to go at 9:30am. To be such a large park, more than one dump site is needed. There’s also a ton of traffic going in and out, so it wasn’t super quiet or anything. We won’t be back, it’s overrated, over priced, and run by rude people.
