Best RV Parks & Resorts near Elkmont, AL

Several RV parks near Elkmont accommodate various camping needs. Mill Creek Park in Elkmont provides full hookups with electric, sewer, and water connections. Northgate RV Travel Park, situated near Athens, offers pull-through sites suitable for large RVs with 50-amp electric hookups, though it lacks amenities like showers or toilets. T's Outback RV Park features 51 sites with electric, sewer, and water hookups plus shower facilities. Quail Creek RV Resort in Hartselle maintains spacious pull-through sites with full hookups and picnic tables. "The concrete pad was within 1/4" of level and even had two sewer connections. Included in the premium site was a nice picnic table and a smaller two person table, fire pit, and nice large marble lighting."

Most RV parks in the region remain open year-round with varying levels of occupancy. Cell service quality differs between locations, with several parks reporting 3-4 bars on Verizon networks. Many parks accept pets but require them to be leashed. Navigation requires attention in some areas - one reviewer cautioned about a potentially hazardous right turn: "When we departed, heading back towards the interstate, you come to a stop sign. Our RV GPS and Waze wanted us to turn right on Mt. Zion Rd instead of going left as we did when we arrived. We took the right turn, and about the time the trailer swung, we saw the drop-off into the ditch." Sanitary dump stations are available at most parks, though primitive sites with water and electric only typically charge the same rates as full-hookup sites.

    Campers RV Park

    Clean, Family Friendly Park.

We stayed here twice as our first stops leaving “home” when we started full-timing this summer. Both stays were quite, with plenty of things to explore around the property.

Pro’s: The back-in and full time sites have ample space for those looking for a longer stay, but the pull through a usually aren’t full so they provide decent space as well. Activities everywhere! There are pavilions and out buildings setup with games, hammocks, and all kinds of fun family-friendly things to see and do.

Cons: The grounds were “under construction” while we were there so there was occasionally some tractor/dozer noise. Some sites were unavailable due to them being revamped.

Collectively it was a very good experience. The staff was very friendly, and even put us in a nice long term stay when there was a booking error, so we ended up with a huge spot near the creek. I only take off a star due to spacing of the sites, but I would stay here again.

Fairview Campground — Tims Ford State Park

    Camp by the Lake!

You can camp by the water at Tim’s Ford Lake. Some sites have full hook up’s up to 50 amp. Sewer hook up is not available at the water sites. We enjoy this campground. Great for kayaking and fishing. Family friendly.
35’ Fifth Wheel was a breeze at most sites, a couple sites may be tight.

    Heritage Acres RV Park

    Up and coming RV park!

This RV park was still heavily under construction while we were there. In fact, I believe we were the first people to stay in our spot, a premium pull through. The playground was in the process of being completed and the game room wasn't functional yet but you can tell the owners are investing a lot of time and money!

The concrete pad was within 1/4" of level and even had two sewer connections. Included in the premium site was a nice picnic table and a smaller two person table, fire pit, and nice large marble lighting.

    Monte Sano State Park Campground

Top of the Mountain with Great Views

We heard from other campers that if you go to Huntsville, Alabama that you have to stop at Monte Sano State Park. We took our Class C up the mountain and was able to reserve full hookups in a nicely wooded area. Sites were level gravel with picnic tables and grill. Great place to bring a trail bike or take hikes. Pet friendly.

Redstone Arsenal RV Park & Campground

    Nice Military FAMCAMP

The campground(CG) was easy to find for our mid-October stay. We exited off on 14A to gate 9 where we went through the gate and then did a u-turn to take us back down past the golf course to the CG. We had no problem doing the u-turn with our 40' fifth wheel. We followed the signage to the CG and then into pull-through site 21 with FHUs. There was no formal check-in, but our name and stay dates were on the site post. The pads here are huge and the utilities including 50 AMP worked well. We got 3 bars on Verizon and 2 bars on T-Mobile along with a large selection of OTA channels. We could have used satellite as there are no trees near the RV sites. They have a nice fenced dog park plus a shower and laundry facility with 4 machines each costing$1. The WiFi worked well for a CG this size. Use Gate 8 near the commissary and BX versus 9. Gate 8 gives you an easier drive to the campground. Overall we enjoyed our overnight stay.

    Northgate RV Travel Park

    Northgate Camp Ground

This is a nice off the interstate travel park. Full hook ups. Pull through sights plenty long enough for our 40+ ft. motorhome with tow vehicle. Pull in at night out in the morning. Simple and not fancy. But fits the bill when needing a place with electricity and dump and fill water!

    Cathedral Caverns State Park Campground

    Beautiful cave!

General: Small (36-site) campground in two loops; only the upper has a bathhouse. It is about a ¼ mile walk from the lower to the bathhouse.

Site Quality: Sites are gravel and vary; some are back-in, some are pull-through and some are parallel. Site 32 was very generous in size although not completely level. There was one picnic table, one set of water/electric utilities, and two fire rings (not sure why there were two). This site could easily fit a large Class A or two smaller campers.

Bath/Shower House: Clean and heated. The toilets and showers have a curtain for privacy which IMO feels less private. When I was in the shower, someone opened the curtain not realizing (!) that someone was in there. Warm water at the sinks and showers was appreciated on a damp and chilly day. There is also a clean laundry facility - $3/wash and $2 to dry. The laundry room also has a microwave oven.

Activities: There are daily cave tours; we have been in many caves and this one is very nice. By the lower loop is a small climbing wall. There are also hiking trails and gemstone mining, although we did not take advantage of either of these. We were there for the Cave Run - a 10km or half marathon where the last 1.2 miles AND finish are INSIDE the cave, which was very cool!

Mason, the camp host, was great. Upon our arrival, he escorted us to our site in his golf cart (entirely not necessary but welcomed) and went over what we needed to know including the WiFi password (otherwise we had no service on Verizon). Be sure to go to the office (up a very steep hill or you can drive) and ask for your 15% senior discount if applicable (you need to show proof you are old!).

    David Crockett State Park Campground

    Amazing Campground!

Stayed at campground 1 site 20 and was very pleased! Very clean and well maintained! We tent camped and I like the concrete pad because didn’t have to worry about things getting wet from the ground. Has a 20 and 30 amp electric hook up and water beside. Nice fire pit and table also! Site 20 is located right beside shoal creek and with in walking distance to the restrooms and bathhouse!

Fairview Campground — Tims Ford State Park

    Quiet and Picturesque

We stayed at site 40 with great view of lake. Site was very narrow (even for our pop up) but private as door side of camper opened to wooded area directly on lake. If neighboring campers backed in (vs pulling straight to camp with family on other side) they would have been kinda close. The site’s fire ring/grill and picnic table were down a bit from camper (not right outside door) but still on lake with beautiful view. Small Cell/WiFi tower was right next to site so got great reception (a must have since working remote). Bathhouse was very clean and being a shower snob, I was able to shower comfortably and didn’t get grossed out. We are planning to stay here again.
