U.S. Space & Rocket Center RV Park - PERMANENTLY CLOSED

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Visiting the U.S. Space & Rocket Center is the main draw here, and the campground puts guests roughly a half mile from the museum entrance via sidewalk. Sites are asphalt and paved, with full hookups at each one, though campers with larger rigs should note that electrical service runs only 20 to 30 amps, which can be a constraint during Alabama summers. The campground is small and open, with some road noise from nearby Route 565 audible from the sites.

Road conditions inside the park are a recurring theme in reviews. The entrance and interior roads have notable potholes, and multiple campers recommend slowing down on arrival. GPS navigation also trips up some visitors, and one useful landmark: if you pass the Marriott, you've gone too far. Sites are fairly level and spaced with reasonable distance between them, which helps offset the compact overall footprint.

Staff are described as friendly and responsive. Pam & Steve S. note it as "clean, quiet & cool," and the campground runs on an honor system for reservations. Amenities include showers, laundry, a dump station, and WiFi. Pets are welcome. The campground is open year-round and accepts RVs up to 80 feet, making it a functional overnight stop for those routing through Huntsville or spending a day at the Space Center. Campers wanting a more developed RV setup in the area can look at Redstone Arsenal RV Park & Campground as an alternative nearby option.

We will be back

This was just an overnight stay for us this time. Next time will be longer. Clean, quiet & cool. We watched camp kids shooting of their handmade rockets. The only reason for 4 stars was the potholes and directions. We passed it.

Nice little campground

Entrance and camp road have some serious potholes.  Slow down when entering!  Don't follow GPS, you'll miss the entrance. If you pass the Marriott, you passed it.  Hook ups were good and sight fairly level and paved.  Sights have good distance between them.

Extremely close to the Space Museum and easy to get to other hot spots.

Close to everything

Close to everything the sites are asphalt

Full hookups all sites are 20 amp we stayed in site 8. A bit uphill but doable.

Entry and the roads around have big potholes. For a quick stop over at 30 something a night it was a descent park close to space center

Nice weekend stay

We needed a place for the weekend in Huntsville and this campground was shady and people in office are nice. It’s great if you need to just have a place to stay while visiting attractions in Huntsville.

So/so

The campground is not kept up particularly well, and nobody ever seems to be in the office.

Walking distance to the museum

Our stay from 3/17-18, 2021 includes a tornado watch. Staff are friendly and gave us instructions in case a tornado develops. This is a small open campground with some road noise from route 565. Sewer and water is included at the sites. The Space and Rocket Center is about a half mile away using the sidewalks.

Perfect campground when visiting the Space and Rocket center

If your visiting the Space and Rocket Center, you have to consider the campground as your place to stay. Family owned and run, they use the honor system when taking reservations. The interior roads could use some patching, but the location can't be beat. Only 30 amp service could be an issue for big rugs in the heat of the Summer. Not fancy, but nice. Stayed in along recently paved pullthrough site that worked great for us. Close to everything.
