This is not the easiest summer swimming hole to get to, but the effort is well worth the reward. Located a mile and a half from the Havasupai Indian Village on the bottom of the Grand Canyon, this is a stunning spot to cool yourself, sunbathe, and float. Water pours from the red rock face of the Grand Canyon and pools 100 feet below into a turquoise paradise. Options for getting there? Three-day mule trip, helicopter ride, or a wild 4 x 4 ride followed by a one and a half mile hike.
Sliding Rock is a fitting name for this popular swimming spot: it is basically a huge rock that you can slide down. This 60-foot boulder has been smoothed by centuries of rushing waters and makes for a wonderful natural waterslide. Note: There’s nothing secret about this summer swimming hole. People line up in the summer to take their turn down the slide. It’s located in the Pisgah National Forest.
This is a picture perfect swimming hole and one of the most loved spots in Texas. Surrounded by natural forests and lined with cypress trees, this spring fed pool offers a cool respite from the heat of the Texas summer. The grassy banks are ideal for picnicking.
Cummins Falls cascades down 75-feet of a wide, natural stone staircase. The “stairs” are wide, flat, and smooth. They are also slippery, so be careful if you’re not ready to for a cold splash! Cummins Falls is about halfway between Nashville and Knoxville.
