The coastal area of South Carolina known as the Grand Strand, is one of the top vacation spots in the Southeast. Known for its family-friendly attractions, amazing fishing, and exciting night-life, this beach destination is the place to go in the summer for families and is popular with snowbirds in the offseason. If you’re planning on taking your RV to the Carolina coast this year, you’ll find no shortage of campgrounds. But one stands out above the rest: Pirateland Family Camping Resort.

5 Reasons Why RV Campers Love Pirateland

Pirateland Camping Resort, positioned just south of the city of Myrtle Beach, is one of the most popular RV destinations in South Carolina. Pirateland holds more than 2,000 rentable spaces total, around half of which are reservable for campers and RVers. With a plethora of campgrounds to choose from on the Grand Strand, The Dyrt campers are here to tell you why Pirateland is the best family camping around.

1. Beachfront Camping Right Off the Water

Many of the sites at Pirateland are beachfront, so visitors can step out of their tent or RV and be in walking distance to the sand and hear the waves crash from their campsite. Similarly, the campground has several lakefront sites as well as sites on the bay, offering water access without the traffic found around the oceanfront sites.

The farthest sites from the beach, in the Buccaneer Bay campground, are around 450 yards from the beach, making #2 on this list a must have. Campers say that parking can be a tight squeeze, but the friendly staff is there to assist.

“Our family has loved coming here for many years. It’s such a fun experience walking out of your camper and right onto the beach…Highly, highly, highly recommend this place!” — The Dyrt Camper Shelby B.

2. Luxury Camping at Every Turn

Pirateland has become Myrtle Beach’s main RV draw not only thanks to exciting activities and beautiful waterfront views, but also its luxury accommodations for RVers. Full hookups, electricity, water & picnic tables with every site are only the beginning of courtesy at this site.

The grounds hold nine bath houses, a camp store, laundromat, WiFi access across the sites, and even golf cart rentals to traverse the massive campgrounds’ many activities and lengthy beachfront. The hospitality even stretches to dinner; in the summer months there are BBQ and fried chicken food trucks set up on-site for hungry guests looking for comfort food at the campsite.

“This was a really fun campground. Lots of activities. Golf cart rentals were so reasonably priced. The staff was really great. We will definitely come back.” — The Dyrt camper Rhonda B.

3. Wet and Wild Fun for the Whole Family

Right in the middle of the park, visitors will find a beautiful Olympic-sized pool, a lazy river, and a brand new water park. These amenities are included in the price of your campsite and are a fantastic way to spend an afternoon or three.

The 510-foot lazy river meanders through the park, providing a relaxing respite. Don’t worry if you didn’t bring a float, the park provides them. Also, the 18,000 square-foot sun deck around the water features is equipped with more lounge chairs than you can shake a stick at.

“The waterpark on the grounds was perfect and safe, you can sit in the shade and your children can splash and play. The lazy river was great too!” — The Dyrt camper Rhonda B.

4. Playgrounds, Arcades, and Mini Golf – Oh My!

For all those unexpected rainy days or beach closures, Pirateland camping has you covered. The arcade and playgrounds are just the tip of the fun iceberg at Pirateland. The resort also boasts an indoor heated pool and jacuzzi, and multiple botanical garden paths for ultimate relaxation.

There are on-site boat rentals that allow you to rent a kayak or paddle board to explore Long Bay Lake for just a few bucks an hour. Not only that, there is an 18-hole mini-golf course.

The kids will never be bored, and most importantly, they’re safe in the gated resort.

“This is such a great place, with multiple pools, a lazy river, cabins and golf carts to rent, right on the ocean, what more can you ask for? There is an arcade as well as so many activities AND an ice cream shop (this is the first time I had Moose tracks ice cream). Yum!” — The Dyrt camper Michelle D.

5. Proximity to Myrtle Beach Attractions

If you decide to venture off the grounds for a day out and about, you won’t be disappointed. You could spend the day on the strip at Myrtle Beach shopping and checking out the local restaurant fare.

Another option is to practice your equestrian skills and go horseback riding at the nearby Inlet Point Plantation. And, in keeping with the pirate theme of the park, you could also spend an evening at Dolly Parton’s Pirate’s Voyage Dinner & Show.

“It’s close to all the fun places but gated and safe to let the kids loose. There is a water park in the center of the campground. I advise spending the extra money for a site on the beach!!! Worth it. They have cabins too.” — The Dyrt camper Barbara C.
