Highway noise from nearby Interstate 90 provides a constant backdrop at this 110-site campground within Mirror Lake State Park, though many campers find the sound fades into the background during daytime activities. The campground spreads across three distinct loops, each offering different experiences and amenities.
The Cliffwood Loop attracts RV campers with electric hookups and larger sites, including the popular site 138, which features a private trail leading to lake overlooks. "We had a big private site #138 it's in the Cliffwood loop at the end where the circle is," notes B M., who appreciated the direct lake access. This loop lacks tree cover between sites, so neighbors remain visible across the open terrain. The Sandstone Ridge Loop provides a middle ground with some elevation changes and sites like 74, 75, and 77 offering more space. Tent campers gravitate toward Bluewater Bay Loop, which has no electric hookups but provides a more wooded setting.
Mirror Lake itself draws most visitors, with a boat launch, swimming beach, and rentals available for those without watercraft. The lake connects to the Wisconsin River system and flows toward Wisconsin Dells via a dam. Hiking trails lead directly from the campground, and the on-site Ishnala Supper Club provides upscale dining with lake views, though waits can be lengthy during peak season.
"Shower building super clean and plenty of hot water," reports Lynn R., highlighting the well-maintained facilities. Sites require leveling blocks for most RVs, and campers fill water tanks at designated stations rather than individual site hookups. Firewood costs $6 per bundle at the park. The campground stays busy during summer months, particularly on weekends, though shoulder seasons offer more solitude. For additional camping options in the area, consider campsites around Lake Delton. Book well ahead for summer stays, and pack earplugs if you're sensitive to highway sounds.
Description
Cliffwood campground has 35 sites, 29 with electricity. One of the sites is accessible for people with disabilities, site 132. Cliffwood Campground is open from May 1 to Oct. 31.
Sites 106-121, 127-128, 130-131 and 135-136 are double sites. This means that two sites share a driveway but each has its own individual site. These sites are ideal for camping parties that would prefer to camp next to one another in a larger, shared space. The two campsites are reserved together, and a reservation fee is charged for each site. There are showers and both flush and pit toilets in season. Late fall through early spring, water and shower/flush toilet buildings are weather-dependent.
The Echo Rock Trail makes its way through the campground with 0.4 miles of an accessible paved path that leads to a beautiful overlook and the Ishnala bridge which spans the Mirror Lake gorge.
