Lots of Fun and History

This is probably one of the coolest places to visit. It is an old army base with all sorts of bunkers to explorer.  As I Boy Scout, this was one of our favorite places to camp each year. On top of the hill are bunkers that stretch probably a quarter-mile and are perfect for playing an ultimate game of capture the flag.

There is also beach access and plenty of historic buildings to check out. They have two campgrounds, one down by the beach and the other up top.

Hidden Gem

This campground is hidden in the middle of a major Western Washington city, Federal Way. Once in the campground, you would have no idea that you are surrounded by a sprawling metropolitan area.

The campsites are small but private. They do allow for campfires but you should bring your own firewood.

There is a trail that follows a creek down to the shoreline. If you are into geocaching we found a few along the trail. Depending on the season this trail can be quite muddy.

Very Pleasant 1st RV Park Experience

Loved this RV Park. The staff was very friendly and helpful as we were first timers with absolutely no experience. We also visited during the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic which made their efforts to ensure we enjoyed our time even more appreciated. Follow us @therv_gans on IG more more pics of this RV Park as well as our journey and transition to full time RV Living! #freedom

NW Adventure Center

Excellent location for those with military access to the base - active duty, retired or family. 30/50 amp hookups. Beautiful views of American Lake. Pet friendly.

Great Spot!

Awesome little campground. Trails to walk & amazing customer service!!! Would love to return in the summer!

American Lake Camp Ground (JBLM)

Good little camp ground on post with almost everything you need. It is in the wilderness, on the lake, but it is also fairly close to stores and gas stations. Long term max is 28 days per spot. All hookups available trash laundry showers bathrooms fire pits as well as grills all in each spot

GREAT LOCATION TO HIKING TRIALS

VERY NICE CAMPSITE. VERY CLOSE TO LENA LAKE TRIAL HEAD. VERY QUIET AND VERY CLOSE TO THE RIVER.

Reserve ahead of time

Great views. Plenty to do: walk-on ferry to port Townsend, beach comb, fly kites, explore the lighthouse/bunkers. It’s a very popular site, even year round. Be sure to reserve your site well in advance.

NW Camping year 'round

We camp here at least twice per year. You can reserve online at the state parks website months in advance (dont expect to get in last minute). Currently the upper campground is under construction, so spaces are limited. We love the upper bunkers, the views, the beach, and the history. No water hookups in winter. Great places for all ages!

Great paddle-in site

This is a great boat-in-only site. No running water but vault toilets. No reservations. Rack for kayaks above high tide. Nice alternative to the Oak Bay sites at Pt. Hadlock to the west. Open all year.
