Pit Stop

We thought we would try a different place for our mid-point stop to Myrtle Beach. It's a Good Sam park, clean bathrooms, small pool, no fire rings, close access to freeway. Alot of highway noise can be heard from the campground, even with the hilly grazing pasture for cows between the highway and…

Nice park

We stayed 3 nights at Fort Chiswell. Although first impressions weren’t that great, it grew on me. This is a lovely park right off the main highway. You don’t hear any noise because a large hill blocks every thing off. RV sites aren’t really spacious, but are shaded with a picnic bench. No fire…

Nice place for a few nights

Stayed here for 3 nights while slowly making our way to South Carolina. Very pretty area nestled in the mountains. It’s just off the interstate, but heard very little traffic due to large hill. Lots of cows and sheep grazing in the fields nearby. Most of the people who came were overnight only, so…

Awesome sites/camping cabins and GREAT river tubing experiences

The staff here is INCREDIBLY friendly and the check-in building/store is small but mighty, offering items like local honey, local preserves and camping/swimming/tubing accessories.

We stayed in the camping cabins located on the hill behind the store. It was so quiet & offered a beautiful view…

Awesome little campground and park

Relatively small campground but well maintained. Some sites are very well screened and others are very exposed. Depending on weather and wether or not you have solar panels on your rig, these open spaces can be a blessing or a curse. Look at the site photos, they’re accurate.
Bathhouse was…

Awesome place, especially if you have kids

Stayed in the Creekside Campground. It’s not a large campground, but that’s ok since it shares one bathhouse (four showers in individual shower rooms around the back side of the facilities). There’s a sink outside the bathhouse for dishes and a laundry room with two washers and two dryers (one was…

Awesome park for peace and quiet

This was our first time camping and it was great. The campground was very nice and well kept the camp host was awesome and helped me get our wildwood in the spot just right. It's a beautiful quiet campground, just what we needed on our maiden trip. The neighbors were very nice and helpful too. We…

This spot is incredible.

Free spot, right next to a gorgeous creek. It was totally empty in March - we didn’t see a single soul. Got a beautiful campsite right on the creek. There’s lots of gorgeous spots on this stretch of road.

Family but Permanent

This campground is clean, right on SOHO Lake. This is a permanent set campground, not one for weekenders. We have stayed here with friends who have a lot leased. The same people are there year after year and it is like a huge family. It is quiet, but fun. The only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is…

Beautiful & Free but Lots of Road Noise

Just on the edge of Watauga Lake sits this free dispersed camping area that is perfect for tent camping only. This is a park outside the gate and walk your gear in type of place, some bring your IKEA bags or a wagon. Opportunities for fishing and boating are abundant. Most of campsites are large,…

  • Get here early to get one of the lakefront sites.
  • Good morning Watauga Lake!
  • We bring our solar panel and power bank with us all the time, even kayaking.

Nice clean campground

It is very limited for those with rv and no other mode of transportation. Campground is a mile away from main amenities. No garbage pickup or drop off close. Staff was great

Yurt camping

This was a great stay in a YURT! Stayed at the end of November and it was cold but nice. The camp facilities are clean with showers. The ranger station had supplied and lots of information. They had fire wood at the camp ground for $6/pile. Hiking trails are accessible from the camp grounds so no…

Lakeside sunsets for days

You really can’t pass this one up. If you are road tripping from Great Smokey to Shenandoah this is the perfect one or two night way point. We opted for two nights and were stunned with the views from the hemlock loop. We booked before the site filled up and got the best site of the loop — site…
