Top 10+ Dog-Friendly Campgrounds near Thompson, UT

Absolutely beautiful resort. Staff is awesome. Multiple pools, dog parks. Great water pressure. Lots of trees by sites

Some trees but lots of dirt and no grassy areas. Spaces were nicely distanced for the price ($59 a night for pull-thru FH). They do have a leash less dog park and very reasonably priced laundry.

Nice place. Laundry on site which was the biggest draw. Can’t find a laundromat in 100 miles of here lol. Reasonable prices. Clean. Has a fenced in dog park. Not many trees and dusty/sandy but I guess that comes with the area.

Stayed here for a night after a long drive. We wanted to take showers and not have to search for a site. Hot showers, nice staff, dog park. Close to the highway and we backed right up to a motel 6 that was very busy all night. Dogs not allowed at tent sites, but luckily they made a last minute exception for us at the very end tent site.

We picked this stop on our way to Salt Lake City. Clean, friendly and lots of space. They have increased the area, so I would ask for one of the older sites. They have trees and some shade. The new area is pretty barren. They do have a nice dog park, but large gravel and I have small dogs. Clean bathrooms and showers. I did not use the shower, but my husband did. Her said that he had trouble getting hot water. We are traveling in a class C

Quaint campground two blocks from downtown and a 7-11. Park in the lot and carry your gear (carts provided) to your site. Showers and dish washing area kept up very nicely twice a day. BBQs available to cook all set up and ready to go. 

Cool vibe for adventurers. Most people were up and out before sunrise to hike Arches NP. We also used it a s a base for Canyonlands to do some off roading.

There is a dog park nearby, but you only heard it if you were still in camp at 10am.

Very, very tight RV spaces. Had to park truck perpendicular to trailer. At times we were blocked by neighbors vehicles, but they had nowhere else to park. Had to wait to leave because exiting from our site was blocked anytime someone used the dump station. Would be horrible for a one night stay. They have a “dog park” that is tiny. Pretty useless except for very small dogs. It is very obvious they tried to maximize the number of sites at the expense of ease of access.

The good things are the rest rooms were clean, the sites did have some shade, concrete pads for parking RV, and (depending on if this matters to you) it is right in town in Moab with easy walk to numerous restaurants, shops, and stores.

Located right off of highway 191, Moab Valley RV Resort is in the perfect location, especially for those looking to visit the national parks. Arches National Park is a short, 5 minute drive and Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse State Park are located 25 minutes away. The quaint town of Moab is a short 5 minute drive in the other direction and offers several options for restaurants, shops, hotels and a grocery store.

The campground bathrooms and showers are clean and well maintained. They also offer a nice dog park and recreation area along the tree line. During the winter the check in center is closed, but they provided us with all the information we needed prior to arrival. Overall we were pleased with the stay and we’re stunned by the surrounding area and all Moab has to offer.

I stayed here last minute booking/trip because Moab was booked up. It worked out great. One day I went to Moab, arches, Canyonlands. Another day I spent at Goblin Valley. The campsites were clean, the staff was very helpful & friendly. The pool was clean and as a bonus they has a K-9 area for pet play off leash.

Grandstaff was amazing. Will definitely go again. Had decent bathrooms and the rangers would come by to check on the sites and collect payments. So that helped with accountability and maintaining the site. I would recommend leaving something behind at your site ( nothing of true value though) if you are going out to the town or exploring the area. Definitely at there early enough to get a site. I camped there for a couple of days with my dogs. It’s pet friendly and overall safe. The town isn’t too far away if you need something last minute or want to just enjoy. Definitely leave your pay slip on the clip they provide in front of your site. But leave no trace behind and toss your trash in the dumpster at the end of the road. The views are amazing and the river is gorgeous. I will be going back for a longer stay. 14 days max:)

A few things set this place apart in Moab: Tent only campers, no dogs, showers, and there are Wheelbarrows to bring your camp gear to your site - there are no vehicles allowed past the parking lot. Not having RV noise is great. and no headlights, dust or car exhaust by the tents is a great plus. 

We camped there 3 nights, did Arches and Canyonlands.  I will add that by 7:30 AM, Arches was full, and they tell you to come back in 3-5 hrs.  I did not know that National Parks closed admission- at any rate, Canyonlands is a great alternative, and there's Arches there too.  Please don't hike dumb- it's super hot this June and the sand and rock are even hotter- hiking boots (not sandals) and AT LEAST a liter of water, sunscreen, and a hat that covers your ears, a small gatorade or other electrolyte if possible. 

There are shared gas grills supplied w/gas cannister, each tent has its own picnic table.  There's tree cover for shade.  You can walk to decent places to eat.  Not a shopper- but there's a bunch of shops for souvenirs and such.

Yes, the bathrooms are shut down from 11-1, that's when they're cleaned! - I would hope you wouldn't come to Moab so you could hang by your tent site at full sun and not go exploring.  Most people are on their way someplace by 10am, so those hours are fine.  

Entrance to Arches is about 7 minutes away, Canyonlands about 20 for the closest entrance (top of Canyon hikes), we went to Needles too which is about 1 hr 45 min drive (inside Canyon hikes). 

There are campsites in the NPs, but they don't have showers/running water.  That IS a big thing.  You get filthy orange after hiking a day, and a shower is fantastic.

There is a food shopping store right down the street. The campsite also has a stocked ice chest with bags for $3.  

You don't set your tent on the grass because there's sprinklers there- that's why it's still green, and why there's a tree cover- it needs water.

It was 2 of us on this trip, and $35/nt - I dare you to price out hotels in the area. There are a couple outlets in the bathroom if you need to charge- I had to charge my Fitbit, and have to add- it died in Arches- it was so hot, it overheated, and I had to tear it off my wrist fast, because the green laser shorted and started burning me.

I love dogs, but have camped in enough places where folks don't control them, they bark and fight with other camper's dogs and of course you get the bad apples that don't pick up after them - ironically there's a dog park right next to the camp.

There's construction going on behind the tree line on a school. They start promptly M-S at 8 AM- 5 pm.  Looks like they're over half finished. Great cell service, because there's a cell tower right behind the tree line.  It's surprisingly quiet for being a few blocks from the main drag.

Very easy to access (even in snow), only about 15 min from town, and like 5 from Arches, has trash and bathrooms. We were the only people there but it was really cold so...

Truly beautiful all around close to the arches and solemne trailheads. Pet friendly and the fire pit was raised and had a grill too!

20 a night was a lot but its easy to self check in and out at the entrance sign and it really is the perfect little place.

Stayed here for 3 nights in 37' 5th wheel. RV park is quiet. It's a little old, but not run down and not trashy at all. Some grassy sites. Mostly Gravel, some sandy areas. Not muddy if wet. Good hookups. Pet friendly. I feel a little bad for giving three stars, but I should give it four because there's always availability it seems. I know many of you are a bunch of softies so I don't want to skew the reviews with my four-star. This is in the middle of the desert! Hot days and cool nights. 50 amp. Fresh Water. Sewer hookups. Spanish Trails Rv Park has a very Friendly staff, is clean, has a small pool, decent internet, and reliable electric. It is close to town and trails. The cites are extremely unlevel, but have a patch of grass are and a small tree at each site. We started at Horsethief State Park campground which was awesome, but an early heatwave of temps over a 100 sent us scurrying for plug in and the ability to run all 3 acs in our 43 foot toy hauler. We used the roll on blocks to level side to side without issue. The pull through are a little tight, so we will be backing out. The Class A’s have had to stop short of level due to slope and ground clearance, but we did not hear of any complaints, and everyone is friendly and happy. It is Moab, after all. The biggest improvement that the park could make would be some shade and a different surface in the pet relief area. The gravel gets very hot, and it’s not fun sweeping up the red dust from the Rv. At the state campground they have a lot of bushes that seed in tiny stickers (we call them beggars fleas in NM—not actual bugs but tiny stickers) that imbed themselves in animals passing by. The labs had no problems, but tough on long eared dogs with soft fur like our Cavapoos, so bring a hair brush.

6 stars for customer service! We came in late on Easter weekend during the Easter Jeep Safari Event. They were packed but found a place for us in the back. The host brought out a picnic table and fire ring for us, even offering a barbecue upon request. The Restrooms were Super clean and the hot water seemed endless in the shower. Guys get there early my hubby said the wait in the men’s room for anything was horrible, I did not have that experience on the Ladies side. The camping inside the inner circle seemed super nice with grass and shade, some sites even having shade structures. We were in the back lot (79) not on the map pictured. The CampPark also had several small cabins that looked adorable, and prices vary by season. Wi-Fi was available, the general store had a little bit of everything and it’s just down the street from downtown Moab! I would recommend this campground to everyone! Totally family and pet friendly and the perfect base camp for all your Moab adventures. Arches National Park is 4 miles from Moab and Canyonlands another 30+ Miles. If you have Children be sure to stop at the visitor center prior to your adventure and pick up a “Junior Ranger” packet and get your kids involved and enable them to earn their junior ranger badge for each National Park!

This is a spot just south of Thompson Springs exit on I70. Take the exit road to south, up the hill .2 mile and on left there is a large spot that was likely a hwy materials depot at one time. Good cell signal, close to the store and gas at the exit. Much better option than the spot noted way out on the County Road #144 southwest of the exit.

Anywhere on potash road is the perfect free camping. Very close to amazing climbing. Hot during the summer like everywhere in southern Utah. No signs that day free camping but, it is fact free. Dispersed great for big groups or all alone. Dogs allowed. Bring lots of water. Don’t forget to look at the stars at night.
