CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV parks near Arches National Park provide full-service accommodations for motorhomes of various sizes. Sun Outdoors Arches Gateway offers electric, water, and sewer hookups with concrete pads that accommodate large RVs. Sun Outdoors Moab Downtown features fifty-amp service and is located on Main Street for convenient access to town amenities. Village Camp Moab maintains 100 sites with full hookups and fire pits, while Sun Outdoors Canyonlands Gateway operates seasonally from March through October. Most parks have gravel or concrete pads with limited spacing between sites. "The sites are really close together with narrow entries, so we had to take our time pulling our 32' travel trailer through so we didn't clip either side," noted one camper.

Highway noise affects several RV parks positioned along Highway 191, particularly those closest to the main road. Spanish Trails RV Park remains open year-round, providing trash service and sanitary dump stations even during winter months. Reservations become essential during peak seasons from March through October when national park visitation reaches its highest levels. Most parks allow pets but enforce leash requirements within designated areas. A review mentioned that "sites slope downhill ever so slightly, so be prepared to try and level your rig." Laundry facilities, WiFi access, and swimming pools are common amenities at the higher-end parks, though availability varies by season. Between Moab and the park entrance, RV travelers will find multiple options with varying degrees of shade and protection from the desert heat.

    Village Camp Moab

    Great Town and RV Stop

We loved Portal RV resort. Clean park with great amenities with adequate spacing. Full hook ups and great restrooms, showers and pool area. Just 5 minutes from Arches National Park and the center of town. Friendly staff and pretty quiet as we were there later in the season.

    We will be back!

    Moab Koa

    Phenomenal Staff-not so great site.

About 5 miles outside of downtown Moab. Very clean, amazing staff, dog friendly. I would give more star, however, we paid for a premier pull through full hook up’s site and it was situated just above the dump station. We have a 40’ Alliance Toy Hauler. We were not familiar with the campground. I would recommend staying in sites #100 and up if you’re in a large rig. Would definitely return knowing what we know now. Immaculately kept campground!

    Courthouse Rock

    Quiet and beautiful

We ended up staying here two nights because the location is perfect! The site is only 12 minutes from Arches National Park! The first night (08/28/21) we arrived around 7:45pm and were the only ones here! Our second night (08/29/21) we are arrived around the same time and there was only one other RV. No wifi but fantastic cell service!

    Sun Outdoors Canyonlands Gateway

Nice Location to hit the parks

Centrally located off the main road. About ten minutes from Arches National Park and twenty minutes from Canyonland Nation Park/Dead Horse State Park. Level camping pads. Clean drinking water. The bathrooms are nice but there are only four so it can get congested. Slight noise pollution from the main strip but worth it for the central location. Nice pool. Moderately priced gas station and camp store on site. Friendly staff. If you plan to visit Arches NP don’t forget make the mandatory reservation online with the NPS.

    Spanish Trails RV Park

    Spanish Trails

Spanish Trails Rv Park has a very Friendly staff, is clean, has a small pool, decent internet, and reliable electric. It is close to town and trails. The cites are extremely unlevel, but have a patch of grass are and a small tree at each site. We started at Horsethief State Park campground which was awesome, but an early heatwave of temps over a 100 sent us scurrying for plug in and the ability to run all 3 acs in our 43 foot toy hauler. We used the roll on blocks to level side to side without issue. The pull through are a little tight, so we will be backing out. The Class A’s have had to stop short of level due to slope and ground clearance, but we did not hear of any complaints, and everyone is friendly and happy. It is Moab, after all. The biggest improvement that the park could make would be some shade and a different surface in the pet relief area. The gravel gets very hot, and it’s not fun sweeping up the red dust from the Rv. At the state campground they have a lot of bushes that seed in tiny stickers (we call them beggars fleas in NM—not actual bugs but tiny stickers) that imbed themselves in animals passing by. The labs had no problems, but tough on long eared dogs with soft fur like our Cavapoos, so bring a hair brush.

    Cotter Mine Road Dispersed Sites

Decent Site Close to Arches NP

Location is key with this site. You are 10 minutes from Arches National Park. You are also close to the state highway, train tracks, and powerlines. I didn’t mind the train. The buzzing of the powerlines took some getting used to.

Kane Creek Campground - Permanently CLOSED

    Showers after a hot day

The campgrounds were basic, not many families. The sites had a good amount of space, picnic tables, fire ring, water, toilets and a sandy base to pitch the tent on. Not far from Arches National Park and just outside Moab so location was good.

Island In The Sky (Willow Flat) Campground — Canyonlands National Park

Small Campground In Canyonlands National Park

Staying at this little campground feels like you're on top of the world, which must be why this area of Canyonlands is called Island in the Sky. It made exploring this area of Canyonlands easy, and led to a very peaceful night.

The campground: With only twelve campsites, this campground has a slower and more intimate vibe. While it's not the highest elevation I have camped at, there's a feeling of being really high up, and because the trees in the campground are low shrub-y things, it also feels very wide open. (But still enough privacy to not see the campers on the other side of the loop.) Unless you stay here around a full moon, the stars are incredible.

My campsite had a parking spot I could pull in; the spot for the tent was dirt. It also included a small pavilion that provided a little shade for the picnic table below, and a fire ring with a grate. There was a vault toilet across the road from my site. There's no drinking water at this campground.

The area: There are multiple districts in Canyonlands National Park, and you have to go different ways to get to each of them. This area is called Island in the Sky; it has several hikes to scenic overlooks of the canyons. It's a bit of a drive to get to Island in the Sky if you're coming from Arches National Park, and I would recommend having all your supplies ahead of time; especially water.

Booking: First-come; first-served. I stayed here in November, arrived in the afternoon, and there were only three campsites open.

Cell service: None. Don't expect to have cell service in any part of this district of Canyonlands. I had some at the Visitor's Center right at the entrance to the Park.

Guide to Arches National Park

Tent camping and RV sites near Arches National Park operate in a high desert environment where summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F during day and drop to the 60s at night. Winter camping faces temperatures that can dip below freezing, with occasional snow from November through February. Most campgrounds position themselves within 15 minutes of the national park entrance on Highway 191.

What to do

Mountain biking access: At Seven Mile RV Park, campers have direct access to Gemini Bridges and numerous off-road trails. "This park is the thrill seekers dream as it is at the base of Gemini Bridges and close to countless other off-road trails," notes one visitor who appreciated the location for outdoor recreation.

Water activities: Camping near the Colorado River provides cooling options during hot months. "We did the jet boat tour and it was so fun!" reported a camper at Spanish Trails RV Park, mentioning the variety of outfitters available for water recreation during summer heat.

Stargazing spots: Several campgrounds outside town limits offer better night sky viewing away from light pollution. "If you want simplistic beauty with endless stargazing and phenomenal sunsets located just a few miles of Moab, Seven Mile RV Park is the park for you," observed a reviewer who valued the dark sky location.

What campers like

Tent site features: Covered camping areas provide critical shade protection in the desert environment. "Each tent site had a charcoal grill and weather canopy. It was nice. Bathrooms were air conditioned and had a nice shower," reported a visitor at Sun Outdoors North Moab.

Winter operation: Year-round camping options exist despite seasonal closures at some facilities. "We camped in one of the small RV spots. It was nice that we were the only ones on the north side of the campground. Very quiet and peaceful compared to the summer months," explained a winter visitor at Sun Outdoors Arches Gateway.

Bike washing stations: After dusty trail rides, bike cleaning facilities become essential amenities. "Nice laundry, great bike wash, loved the playground, nice staff, great amenities," mentioned a camper at Sun Outdoors Arches Gateway who appreciated these practical details.

What you should know

Sloping sites: Many campgrounds feature slight grades that require leveling equipment. "Sites slope downhill ever so slightly, so be prepared to try and level your rig," cautioned a reviewer at Spanish Trails RV Park.

Highway proximity noise: Campgrounds along Highway 191 experience regular traffic sounds, particularly those closest to the roadway. "The sites were in the back row so we had a nice view of the mountains... It is a few minutes south of town - there are closer ones - but we really like the campground," shared a camper at Spanish Trails who found the tradeoff worthwhile.

Ground conditions: Primarily gravel parking surfaces dominate most RV parks in the area. "All the sites are packed tightly together, not much privacy," observed a tent camper at Sun Outdoors North Moab who noted the high-density layout typical of Moab area campgrounds.

Tips for camping with families

Pool temperature: Swimming facilities offer essential cooling during hot months. "The pool was also nice, we visited in early June and it was already triple digits," mentioned a guest at Village Camp Moab about the importance of water features during peak heat.

Kid-specific activities: Some campgrounds incorporate play areas for children. "The park has a neat area with games to do," noted a reviewer at Sun Outdoors Arches Gateway who found the recreational amenities valuable for family camping.

Air conditioning options: For summer visitors with children, temperature control becomes critical. "Each site has a picnic table. Good Verizon signal and good WiFi (we are close to welcome center & park pretty empty)," reported a camper at Sun Outdoors Moab Downtown who appreciated connectivity and comfort features.

Tips from RVers

After-hours check-in: For late arrivals, understanding self-check-in procedures prevents problems. "We got into Moab really late and they had all of our after hours stuff in the mail box. Sights were all pull through and very wide and it's full hook ups," explained an RV camper at Spanish Trails RV Park.

Water hookup winterization: Cold weather camping requires special attention to prevent freezing. "They do a good job of wrapping their water supply though," observed a December visitor at OK RV Park & Canyonlands Stables who found winter camping viable with proper preparation.

Site size considerations: RV length constraints affect campground selection significantly. "The park is in a cool location and has nice area amenities. Arches is 10 minutes, canyonlands is 45. The park has a neat area with games to do. I just don't care for the shared campside," reported an RV owner at Sun Outdoors Arches Gateway who found the shared living space arrangement challenging.
