Kolob Road BLM Dispersed #1

Kolob Road BLM Dispersed #1, near Zion National Park, offers a rugged escape for those looking to immerse themselves in nature without the fuss of reservations. This area is free to camp, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious adventurers, and it’s surrounded by stunning views of bluffs and a small creek that adds to the charm.

Campers have noted the beauty of the scenery, with one reviewer mentioning, “Nice views of surrounding bluffs.” While the area is basic—no drinking water, electric hookups, or designated sites—visitors appreciate the freedom to set up camp wherever they please. Fire pits are available for cozy evenings under the stars, but be prepared for some pesky sand flies during the day.

Accessing the area can be a bit tricky, especially if you venture further back where the roads get rough. Higher clearance vehicles are recommended, as some campers found the journey challenging. However, those who make the trek are rewarded with a peaceful atmosphere and the chance to wake up to the sight of cows meandering through the site.

If you’re looking for a place to unwind and enjoy the great outdoors, Kolob Road BLM Dispersed #1 is a great choice. Just remember to pack out what you pack in, as the area can get a bit trashy. Whether you're planning a quick overnight stay or a longer retreat, this location has a lot to offer for those willing to embrace its simplicity.

Scenery of bluffs

Nice views of surrounding bluffs. Sand flies or something similar are in the thousands here, so be ready with netting. They go away at night, big nuisance in day. Small creek, and nice views of surrounding bluffs about it. Fire pits. AT&T 2 bars pretty common, sometimes 1 but still loads.

Great Free Camping Near Zion

Next time I'm in Zion I'll be staying here if I can't get a reservation in the park, and you should too. We woke up with cows meandering through the site, and it was very pretty next to the creek.

There was a short steep hill to get down if I remember correctly, and there were a couple other cars camping there too, so we weren't alone... but there's also another BLM alternative a few minutes up the road if this doesn't work out for you. For being free I see no reason it shouldn't be 5 stars

Great views but tough road to the campgrounds father back

the camping here was great and super close to Zion's. The ones right on the road were all taken because we were there spring break weekend so we went to one that was farther down off the road. the road back to our campground was rough and only higher clearance cars made it (a forester, a jeep, and a CRV) the toyota camry in our group would not have made it. It was awesome though and in a really beautiful place!

Small BLM dispersed area

This is the smaller dispersed site to the north of the larger one. Road in is narrow and rough, one way width. There is one large open area at the creek and a few other spots, none designated. The spur along the creek to south is narrow and dead ends with no TT turnaround so be warned!!. Area is somewhat trashy and there is a trashy long-term tent camp in bushes that looks to be deserted. The BLM larger area to south is much better for TT and larger RVs.
