Kolob Road BLM Dispersed #1

Free dispersed camping off Kolob Terrace Road runs through this stretch of BLM land outside Virgin, where sites sit along a small creek in a narrow canyon. No reservations are required and no fees apply. The access road is the main thing to plan around: it is narrow, rough, and steep in sections, and multiple reviewers note that lower-clearance vehicles like sedans will have trouble making it in. A pickup or high-clearance SUV is the practical minimum.

Sites are undesignated and spread out along the creek. The spur road heading south along the water dead-ends without room to turn around trailers or larger rigs, so drivers with tow vehicles should note that the Kolob Road BLM Dispersed Camp #2 to the southwest handles bigger setups better. Livestock wander through occasionally. During daylight hours, biting flies are a known nuisance and reviewers recommend netting. AT&T users typically see one to two bars of cell service.

Tim S. describes it as a "beautiful spot in a small canyon," and the views of surrounding bluffs are a consistent draw across reviews. The area sees high use during spring break and holiday weekends, when roadside spots fill quickly and campers move farther down the access road. Campers who want a free overnight base for visiting Zion without the competition for park reservations will find this spot worth the rough road in.

Many visitors appreciated this free BLM site as a scenic alternative near Zion, despite rough access roads requiring higher clearance vehicles. Some feedback indicated cleanliness issues, but the creek-side location and value make it popular.

Beautiful

Beautiful spot in a small canyon. There are many spots along the black top road"Kolob Ter Rd, out of Virgin, and many were already taken as it was Sunday of memorial Day weekend. The dirt road off the black top to the campsite is rough, we have a pickup with slide-in camper, I wouldn't take anything bigger on this road.

Scenery of bluffs

Nice views of surrounding bluffs. Sand flies or something similar are in the thousands here, so be ready with netting. They go away at night, big nuisance in day. Small creek, and nice views of surrounding bluffs about it. Fire pits. AT&T 2 bars pretty common, sometimes 1 but still loads.

Great Free Camping Near Zion

Next time I'm in Zion I'll be staying here if I can't get a reservation in the park, and you should too. We woke up with cows meandering through the site, and it was very pretty next to the creek.

There was a short steep hill to get down if I remember correctly, and there were a couple other cars camping there too, so we weren't alone... but there's also another BLM alternative a few minutes up the road if this doesn't work out for you. For being free I see no reason it shouldn't be 5 stars

Great views but tough road to the campgrounds father back

the camping here was great and super close to Zion's. The ones right on the road were all taken because we were there spring break weekend so we went to one that was farther down off the road. the road back to our campground was rough and only higher clearance cars made it (a forester, a jeep, and a CRV) the toyota camry in our group would not have made it. It was awesome though and in a really beautiful place!

Small BLM dispersed area

This is the smaller dispersed site to the north of the larger one. Road in is narrow and rough, one way width. There is one large open area at the creek and a few other spots, none designated. The spur along the creek to south is narrow and dead ends with no TT turnaround so be warned!!. Area is somewhat trashy and there is a trashy long-term tent camp in bushes that looks to be deserted. The BLM larger area to south is much better for TT and larger RVs.
