Cloquet-Duluth KOA

Railroad tracks run alongside this KOA campground, with multiple trains passing through both day and night. The 20-site facility operates seasonally from May through October, offering a mix of full hookup sites in open areas and water-electric sites tucked back among the trees. Sites vary considerably in size and spacing, with some positioned quite close to neighboring campers.

The campground provides standard KOA amenities including restrooms, showers, a camp store, pool, and dump station. Staff members drive through regularly and offer assistance with site selection and local information. The facility stocks basic camping supplies, food items, and RV accessories. Jay Cooke State Park sits 15 minutes away, featuring hiking trails, waterfalls, and a suspended walking bridge over the St. Louis River. The campground serves as a base for exploring Duluth and Lake Superior's North Shore. Easy interstate access makes arrival straightforward, though the dump station can create backups during busy weekend departures.

Many campers appreciated the comprehensive amenities and helpful staff at this family-oriented KOA. However, cramped sites with limited privacy and noise from trains/playground were common concerns noted across reviews.

So So

I fully recognize that my lack of enthusiasm for this campground may be due to circumstances on the particular weekend we were there. Our site was directly across from the playground and the kids playing at the playground were all pre-teens who screamed non-stop. Our neighbor also had a dog on a line that was long enough to come into our campsite. The dog was perfectly friendly, but he did his business right in the middle of our site and until we pointed it out to the dog's owner, it didn't get cleaned up. The sites were also very small and very close together. We won't be returning to this campground.

We did, however, love the area. We rode the Gitchi Gami trail up along the north shore of Lake Superior, hiked around in Jay Cooke State Park and explored Duluth a bit. We liked the Streetcare Cafe in Carlton (great food), The Cedar Coffee Co and Castle Danger Brewery.

Great Stay

Staff here very helpful. Provided good information for our day trip to Lake Superior and downtown Duluth. Also info on other things to see in the area. We would visit again if in the area.

Great location

Nice campground...a little rural but close to town. Helpful staff, decent size sites and hookups. Pool area was nice but busy on our stay. Great family camping. Kwik Trip down the road has everything you forgot to bring but there's a full grocery just a few miles from the campground...small but well stocked. Easy on easy off from I35 and close enough to Duluth to make a day trip. Would stop here again!

Nice campground & nice staff

We are KOA members (who stay at a lot of KOAs) - our 1st visit at this Cloquet KOA was Sept 2020:

The staff were friendly. One staff drove a cart right to our campsite and helped us determine the best way to back in our RV for the most privacy. We needed a couple of items for our RV and the store had everything we needed including a hose adapter, ketchup, buns, dog treats & s’mores fixings. The camp is close to Duluth but still far enough away to get you completely out of the city and, while exploring, we came across Jay Cook State Park (only about 15 min away) which is beautiful!! The camp was relatively quiet. We were about 20 feet from another campsite on one side and 50 feet on the other. There are a lot of trees and wooded areas so our site felt semi-private. Our Pomeranian, who loves to camp, loved the woods!! Across from us were two camping cabins filled with 20 year olds celebrating a 21st birthday but the staff drove through often and we never heard noise. This KOA offers full hookups in some parts of the campground but our site was only water/electric so they offered a complimentary pump-out with a mobile truck during our stay. We will stay here again!

A nice place for the family to camp

We have camped here multiple times in a tent and also in our RV. Grounds have a nice mix of RV spots out in the open as well as some RV and tent spots back in the trees with water and electric only sites. Full hookup sites are only out in the in the open spaces.

Sites are mostly level and are some are a bit tight and close to your neighbors. They have recently added some additional RV spots and some other upgrades as well. Staff is friendly and bathrooms, store, activity room, pool are all seemed to be well maintained.

Make reservations early in the session because things fill up quickly. Great family campground with a lot of young kids running around, riding bikes, and playing and dogs in most campsites. Pool is also available but we haven’t used.

Easy access to Jay Cook State Park. Jay Cook has a lot to offer; a suspended cable walking bridge, great moderate hikes, waterfalls, climbing on rocks, and amazing river views. Great place to stop in for a couple hours or spend the whole day hiking.

Not to far from Duluth and other amazing North Shore locations.

Dump station is conveniently located on your way out of the grounds but can get backed up at the end of a busy weekend and can make it difficult to exit the campground.

Like so many RV / campgrounds this one is also located near to railroad tracks that has several trains that come through day and night.

Okay

It has all of the amenities, including a fenced in dog area, but the RV sites are close with no privacy. The cabins and tent area looked better. It was fine in a pinch but not my idea of camping.

Standard KOA

This is your standard KOA with RVs and tents on top of each other. If you are just looking for a place to stay for the night, this campground will work great. If you're looking for peace and quiet over a weekend, look elsewhere

As KOAs go, ok.

Sites are cramped, leaving no illusion of privacy. Bathrooms were cleaned every couple of hours, but highly trafficked thus quickly undoing the cleaning. Site was dirty - previous campers had left lots of micro trash near the fire pit and picnic table which killed the ambience.

Our choice for the area!!!

Came in august for Thomas the train in Duluth. This campground is great. Tons of trees for shade. Everything you Need to enjoy a weekend away. Pool, hot tub, WiFi, showers, arcade, laundry, c store, and lots more. We will be back!!
