    Accommodating Staff!!

This is actually our second stay at this campground and I cannot say enough great things about it. Well kept, thoughtful hosts, a cute little campstore, an amazing playground for our kids, a beach, golf cart rentals, cabins, and you can easily pull in a giant RV. I highly recommend this campground.

    Great Urban Campground

Here’s a pic of my rig in spot 44b at Hidden Cove Park this past Saturday. This is a private run campground for tents and RVs. They also have cabins and a bunkhouse for rent. Great full service restaurant and marina where you can rent all types of water toys. Had a great time and I’ll return soon.

Hidden Cove is the best park I saw on Lake Lewisville, Texas

I stayed at several campgrounds on Lake Lewisville, but I Hidden Cove was the best. It has a huge marina and restaurant. The campsites are pretty and have a decent amount of room. The bathrooms are not all conveniently spaced but overall it is a nice campground.

One of the things that sets it apart from the other campgrounds is that there are several cabins that you can rent. They are basically structures that keep you out of the elements, but it is a good place to set up a cot and have a nice night of sleep.

There are rentals for kayaks, paddle boards, etc. If you like camping and enjoying the Lake, go visit Hidden Cove.

    Not just for camping!

Clean and spacious RV sites in two areas, about 100 total and several with water view. Open and tree covered sites in both. Cabins also available, again several with water views. Two designated tent camping areas separate from RVs. Dry storage and dump station on property as well. The park offers open activity areas and covered picnic tables by the water. A 3-lane boat ramp to Lewisville Lake, rental paddle boarding, full marina, and swimming area. Seasonal restaurant with indoor & outdoor eating areas. Privately owned so there is an entry fee, but 2 or 3 levels of yearly membership passes available saves a lot! Currently upgrading to full hookup for all RV sites and wifi.

    Nice park Bad management

My daughter rented a cabin for her birthday so my wife and I rented an RV spot close to the cabin to spend time with her. 2 days before her birthday she received a call that the AC was out and they had to cancel her reservation. When my wife and I arrived there was someone in the cabin. We asked if they were having trouble with the AC. There response “No it works great. Or other cabin didn’t work so they moved us over here”.

    Amazing state park in DFW

An affordable place to stay while checking out the metro, an even better place to get away from the metro. Beautiful night skies, amazing water views. Heavily shaded. We hiked to our primitive site. Over 10 miles of hiking trails. Lots of day use areas and boat launches spread out. Affordable Kayak and paddle board rentals. Bath houses were below standard.

    Twin Coves Park

    New and neat

Twin coves is my favorite park. It has great hiking, a nice kayak launch and new, clean bathrooms. The cabins are well equipped with granite countertop kitchens even!

The campsites near the water have absolutely no trees. I feel very exposed in those sites. They have a few wooded sites near the office but they accommodate only small rigs.

Sometimes there is noise from the boats and harbor nearby.

    Nice Park Close To Home

The Turkey Loop left us less than impressed. The outer sites are more tree'd and private, while the inner spots have little to no trees or privacy. We switched to Bobcat Lane and were thoroughly impressed. Lots of trees and the sites were spaced apart. Also near a trail head. They are still in the process of building cabins and group quarters, they look like they'll be fantastic once completed! The hike wasn't much to write home about, but for being so close to home, we couldn't complain! Their day use area on the lake was quite busy, but the 'beach' gave the kids a great way to cool off and burn off some energy.

    Swimming hole close to Dallas

Cedar Hill State Park, Cedar Hill, TX Site# 42

Cedar Hill State Park is only 10 miles southwest of Dallas, but its topography will remind you of the Texas Hill Country. The park is situated on the shores of Joe Pool Lake and it features 30 primitive hike-in camp sites, over 300 wooded modern sites, and more than 1,200 acres of mountain bike terrain. The park also offers multiple boat ramps, kayak rentals, and a swimming beach.

    Fun for all!!!

We stopped by for the night after visiting the state park to meet up with some friends and I'm so glad we took the detour! The site was a little tight. We had one close to the cabins that you can rent and there was just enough room for all our vehicles and tents but not much more. There was the usual picnic table and fire pit. There was a communal spigot for water which is fine. Its more often a luxury for each site to have their own so I wasn't expecting that in this tent spot. but the campground was a different world. Yogi bear's world really.. My friends kids had a blast. There were scheduled activities all day long and the guys were able to go fishing in the nearby lake. We all had a blast. I would go back in a heart beat.

    Not Ideal…We Left

UPDATE: we left a night earlier. There was no point in staying since we didn’t want to be outside. We will be reaching out to KOA to see if/what they can do about the experience.

This place is nice and up to the “standards” of KOA. I know KOAs are more expensive but this one felt too pricey. Our site was very well shaded but there was a lot of trash. Picnic tables are usually messy but the one we had was gross, not worth cleaning or using. Depending on the direction you’re coming there is an ugly Uturn to get to the entrance. The deluxe sites look super nice as do the cabins. I wouldn’t return but it’s a nice place and would recommend if you’re looking for a an RV park. This is the 2nd KOA, and the staff were nice but the “community feel” isn’t there, not like other places.

    Thousand Trails Lake Tawakoni

    Typical +

Park location is ideal Lake is beautiful many big trees! But roads are terrible, spaces are unlevel, with no uniform length! As usual for Thousand Trails never enough 50amp hookups. There was suppose to be a laundry, no laundry.! There is a propane station, but no one is licensed to operate it! That turned out to be a huge problem. Biggest ice and snow storm in 70yrs temperatures down to -2degrees below freezing for several days several inches of snow. All park water lines froze, rolling blackouts by the state, no propane available anywhere!!! Good thing my unit has a generator or I would have had to stay in my truck! I like to use Thousand Trails but they are not keeping their parks up. Park employees were helpful as they could be with very little resources. They gave me a bottle of propane from one of the cabins which was nice, and I appreciated that. They gave some to other campers, but there werent enough to go around. The park employee felt bad for not being able to help everyone! I will come back again in the summer.

Have visited several times, we purchased park pass as they charge daily fee of $10 per vehicle. Joe Pool lake is part of park. It’s a big park, lots of good spaces. We stayed at site 190. It’s at end of road with privacy. Our only complaint on this site is when it rains, water pours into site and erodes area quickly and will fill your mat ect with orange clay. There’s are rentals like golf carts & kayaks. They have a big beach, park area to enjoy. Staff is friendly.

    Cedar Hill State Park Campground

    Great metroplex destination

Cedar Hill is perfect for a day trip if you’re living in the DFW metroplex. It offers camping, swimming, hiking, biking and the historic Penn Farm. Cedar Hill suffered a lot of damage during the 2015 floods but has rebounded nicely and is a nice place to get away from it all. Warning: not all campsites are created equal and it would be well worth your time to get there as early as possible to get a nice spot. In the summer people are in line waiting when the office opens at 6 AM to claim their spot. There is a lot of wildlife including bunnies, road runners, snakes and deer. There’s great wildflowers here during the spring. It also offers a boat ramp to Joe Pool Lake. If you’re going to swim the bottom of the lake is muddy. Fishing here is really good as well.

    Wind Point Park

Good Camping in a Controlled Environment

If you’re looking for somewhere off the grid that is truly primitive, then this is not the place for you. If you don’t mind other people nearby, then you may enjoy your time here. Great docks for fishing. Beautiful water views, if you camp next to the water. Tent camping sites with electrical hookups are piled next to each other pretty close, so if you’re getting a tent electrical site you had better not mind getting friendly with your neighbors. Also, when it rains some of the tent electrical camp sites fill with water. However, if this happens the front office is more than willing to work with you and give you a refund or switch your site. There is a lot of wildlife roaming around - lots of deer! The primitive camp sites by the docks that overlook the water are beautiful. There is a concrete slab, picnic table, and fire pit at each primitive site. If you want to throw up a hammock, some of the primitive sites have trees that are the perfect distance apart for that - but be aware some of these trees are covered in poison ivy! The primitive sites are all close by to other types of campers, so it is never quiet and you can hear people at all hours of the day/night for the most part. Where we stayed by the water, we were next to an RV site. The other primitive camping sites also seem to be near RV sites and electrical tent sites, according to the map. If you camp near the water, it is very windy, especially at night, so make sure to bring plenty of blankets! Are you ever really on your own here: no. Are there beautiful views: yes. Is it truly primitive: no. Will you be taken care of: yes. All sites are open, with no big trees or shrubs to give privacy. You can see your neighbors and they can see you, even at the primitive sites. It would be a good place to bring a family or children for sure. I will say, the customer service at the main office is outstanding. They have anything you could think of for sale there, which is a huge plus. It is highly likely that you won’t need to drive into town for anything. Workers drive around with trash bags every day to ensure everyone is disposing of trash properly, and will give you free trash bags if you don’t have any, which is nice. All in all it depends on what you’re looking for, whether you choose to come to this camping location or not. We enjoy going here just to get away from the house and enjoy the beauty of the lake/nature for a bit. Although, I do wish there was more privacy. Everything is too close together, in my opinion.
