Several RV parks sit just east of Sunnyvale, Texas, providing convenient access to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Plantation Place RV Park offers full hookup sites with 30/50 amp service and is open year-round, accommodating big rigs with spacious pull-through sites. Nearby, Patriot RV Park features 68 sites with both 30 and 50 amp electrical hookups on level concrete pads. Lavon Oaks RV Park maintains 42 sites specifically designed for RVs with full hookups including water, electric, and sewer connections. Dallas Rockwall RV Campground, though smaller with just 12 sites, provides big-rig friendly spaces with 30/50 amp service. "Very nice and the staff is friendly. Has laundry facilities, 30/50 amp hookups, water, sewer, back-ins and pull-throughs," noted one Plantation Place visitor who stayed for a month.

Most RV campgrounds in the Sunnyvale area maintain good cell service coverage, with visitors reporting strong Verizon signals at multiple parks. Dump stations are available at several facilities, though some parks like Hidden Acres RV Park lack this amenity, requiring travelers to plan accordingly. Pets are welcome at virtually all RV sites in the region, making this area suitable for those traveling with animals. During summer months, temperatures can reach extreme highs, making 50 amp service particularly valuable for running air conditioning units. Propane refill stations can be found at select locations like Traders Village RV Park. Reservations are recommended, especially for weekend stays, as the proximity to Dallas makes these RV parks popular year-round destinations. Many parks offer both short-term and extended-stay options, with some providing monthly rates for longer visits.

      The Retreat at Shady Creek

      Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

      Lake Park Campground

      Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

      Traders Village RV Park

      Clean and big

We stayed 4 nights in site 24, PT FHU on a level concrete pad with a picnic table and plot of grass. $40/ni after Good Sam. The park is split into two sections; the side we are in is next to an airfield and the other side is by a small dog run (next time, I'll request this section bc I'm traveling with my dogs). They have a store and the laundry is clean and well priced ($1.25/wash, $0.25/12 min dry). The wifi is strong and the park is quiet. There are some long term, possibly permanent, tenants, but their sites are well kept.

      Lake Tawakoni State Park Campground

      Nice state park

We don't stay at too many TX State Parks because of the added day use fee. We decided on this park due to its proximity to family in this area. The site was level and on a concrete pad with a parking spot right next to it. We did have a neighbor, so the space between us was fair. Our cell signal with Verizon was poor, so it made work difficult. Our site had W/E and there is a dump station. We did have a picnic table and fire ring. There are some sites that back up to a part of the lake. Noise level was pretty low. Unfortunately, we only spent 1 full day here, so we didn't really get to enjoy any of the hiking trails or do any fishing. We will definitely have to stay again in the future.

      The Vineyards Campground & Cabins

      Very nice

Our site had a concrete pad for our rv. Full hookups are very nice. While we were here nightly thunderstorms came in. The staff were on top of it as they drove around alerting everyone about the wind approaching. Clean laundry room and restrooms. We didn’t use the store due to corona fears and didn’t need to. Pet friendly. Quiet at night. I would absolutely stay here and recommend it to anyone. The only spring time issue is lake flooding will close it.

    Guide to Sunnyvale

RV camping near Sunnyvale, Texas offers proximity to both natural settings and urban conveniences within the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 95°F from June through September, making climate considerations important for campers planning extended stays. Most campgrounds in this region have concrete or gravel pads rather than natural surfaces, with varying levels of shade available depending on the property.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park, guests can enjoy catch-and-release fishing in the on-site pond without needing a fishing license. "There's a nice little pond you can fish in, catch-and-release only, no license required," notes one visitor who appreciated the convenient angling option.

Sports facilities: Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park maintains athletic courts for guest use. "The basketball/tennis courts had just been resurfaced," reported a long-term camper, highlighting the park's commitment to maintaining recreational amenities.

Flea market shopping: Visitors staying at Traders Village can browse one of the area's largest markets. "One of the biggest flea markets around and it's 2 days of walking and shopping," shares a camper who enjoyed the convenience of having this attraction on-site.

    What campers like

Security features: Campers appreciate the safety measures at various parks. At Northside RV Resort, "The park is gated and secure. Each shower has its own toilet and vanity behind a lockable door," notes a November visitor who felt comfortable despite rainy conditions.

Convenient location: The proximity to major metropolitan areas is a significant draw. At Treetops RV Resort, campers value the strategic position. "Located in Arlington smack dab in between D/FW. Just down the road from the Cowboys Stadium. 25 minutes to downtown Dallas and 20 to Fort Worth," reports a guest who needed urban access.

Shade coverage: Unlike some parks in the region, Treetops offers significant tree cover. "The trees are beautiful and add great shade. Most of spaces are pull through and very easy to setup at," mentions a family who appreciated the natural cooling during their stay.

    What you should know

Bathroom availability varies: Not all parks offer shower or restroom facilities despite being full-service RV sites. At Plantation Place RV Park, a camper warns: "WARNING: NO BATHROOMS, NO SHOWERS. I get that RVs have bathrooms and most have showers, but never in all my years have I been to a park with no bathrooms or showers."

Internet limitations: While Wi-Fi is available at most campgrounds, quality and restrictions differ. One Bluebonnet Ridge camper noted: "The WiFi, while available, is really slow. When you connect, they track usage by hardware MAC address. Use too much, you get blocked and have to ask to be allowed back on."

Weather considerations: Drainage can be an issue at some parks during heavy rainfall. A visitor at Patriot RV Park mentioned: "We were in the top part of the campground and had no issues with it being real wet. Have heard that the lower area does have pooling of water with heavy rain."

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Patriot RV Park provides recreational areas for children. "They have a saltwater pool, dog park, laundry room, shower/bathrooms, trees/landscaping and access to a boat ramp," notes a two-month resident who stayed with family.

Kid-friendly swimming: Even in cooler months, some parks maintain accessible pools. "My boys jumped in the pool even though it was 55° outside and said it was a fun experience," shared a visiting family at Treetops RV Resort, suggesting year-round water recreation possibilities.

Shopping convenience: Family supplies are easily accessible from most parks. "Easy access to Target just around the corner, Parks mall is close by and Arlington Highlands shopping is really nice!" reported a family who appreciated the retail options near their campsite.

    Tips from RVers

Leveling considerations: Site conditions vary even within well-maintained parks. At Treetops, one RVer mentioned: "Our spot was 171 and was very well shaded, the only thing is our trailer was level but we felt like we were leaning back."

Reservation policies: Some parks have strict booking policies that can affect stays. "Called into the office like we have every morning and was told 'sorry you have to leave we reserved your spot.' ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!!!!" reported a disappointed guest, emphasizing the importance of confirming reservation details, especially during holidays.

Amenities for extended stays: For those planning longer visits near Sunnyvale, Lafon's RV Park offers practical facilities. "Nice laundry room with everything that works great. The Wi-Fi was not good that would be my only complaint," noted a camper who stayed while completing vehicle repairs.
