    KOA Port Lavaca Matagorda Bay

    Nice small RV Park

Port Lavaca KOA Review Rating: 5 stars.  I recently spent a few days at the Port Lavaca KOA, and overall, it was a great experience with just a couple of minor drawbacks.

    Location and Ambiance:

The KOA is situated in a remote and quiet area, perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The peaceful atmosphere made it easy to relax and unwind. I particularly enjoyed the serene surroundings; it's a fantastic spot for fishing, and I was able to catch some great fish right from the shore and pier.

    Accommodations and Service:

One of the highlights of my stay was the generous upgrade to my site at no extra charge! The staff were friendly and accommodating, which definitely enhanced my experience. I appreciated their willingness to go the extra mile to ensure I had a pleasant stay.

    Fishing:

If you're into fishing, this spot is a dream! The waters are teeming with fish, and I spent several enjoyable hours casting lines and reeling in my catches. It was great to have such easy access to fishing right from the campground. As a bonus a pod of dolphins visited the site in the evening adding to the atmosphere.

    Drawbacks:

The only issues I encountered were related to the journey and the campsite itself. The road leading to the KOA was a bit rough in places, which can be a concern if you’re towing a trailer or driving a low-clearance vehicle. At the time the roads were being worked on, so maybe its better now.  Additionally, the sites along the water can feel a bit tight, making it difficult for larger RVs to maneuver comfortably. If you're planning to stay in one of these spots, be prepared for a close quarters experience. On the plus side I made friends with the neighbors easily.  Also I did choose to take the upgrade from a much bigger site, just to have the water in your back yard.

    Final Thoughts:

Despite the minor inconveniences, I would recommend the Port Lavaca KOA to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway with excellent fishing opportunities. The friendly service and beautiful surroundings more than make up for the rough road. I left feeling refreshed and eager to plan my next visit!

    Magnolia Beach RV Park

Great Spot for Long Term - All Utils Included, Free Wi-Fi

This was a no frills RVP. No amenities other than Wi-Fi, but it's included at no additional charge and the bandwidth was good.

For only $400/mo , everything included, seems like a bargain.

Karankawa Camping Area — Goliad State Park

    Lots of history

This park was so great. There was all kinds of history there that you can see for very low prices and also for free. In the tone of Goliath at their courthouse to have a famous hanging tree that was used to hang people still standing.. About 3 miles down the road is Presidio La Bahia. Built by the Spanish army in the mid 1700s. Home of the Goliath massacre. If you enjoy history, you're really gonna love the goalie at State park.

    Splashway Campground

Awesome park with tons of activities!

Campsites are a little close together, but well equipped otherwise. Went for The water park, which is a blast, and campsites are within easy walking distance. There are a ton of other activities as well - putt-putt, laser tag, paddle boats, fishing, etc. also had curbside trash pickup which was nice.

Would have been nice if there were some incentives for the water park for campers - early entrance, or discount, but that would be the only thing I would add.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Early mornings offer prime wildlife spotting around Lake Texana. One camper at Texana Park & Campground reported, "We've been here three days and have seen 4 armadillos, 5 squirrels, 7 deer and 1 raccoon. The neighbor said she has camped here 6 times and only seen 1 teeny tiny gator."

"Texana has a limited number of full service slots, so book in advance. Lots of wild live to keep your interests, including alligators," advises a visitor.

What campers like

Secured camping areas: Many Edna campgrounds feature gated access systems for added security. A camper at Brackenridge Park & Campground noted, "24/7 security. Gated access to camp areas. 4 clean bathroom/bathhouse. Putt putt golf. Great fishing lake access. No swimming spot - rumor of gators in water."

You camp right next to the water and can listen to the (gentle) waves all day and night. The beach is really level. There are garbage cans, showers, and pavilions with bbqs," reports one camper.

What you should know

One visitor to Twin Lakes RV Park shared, "We arrived in the evening, it was dark, and after speaking with the park owner, we were given recommendations of where to park (30/50 amp) can accommodate large rigs. No lights, so bring good flash lights to set up."

Alligator presence: Lake Texana contains alligators throughout the reservoir. Multiple campers mention sightings, with one noting, "You can't get into this water, pretty murky and lily pads." Another visitor cautions, "Former Texas State Park so most campsites are short in length.
