CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Campgrounds near Seguin, Texas provide access to river-based recreation and RV-friendly amenities throughout the Guadalupe River watershed. Palmetto State Park Campground offers cabin camping, tent sites, and RV hookups amid unique dwarf palmetto plants that create a tropical-like atmosphere along the San Marcos River. River Shade RV Park and Ol 90 RV Park provide direct access to the Guadalupe River with full hookup options for recreational vehicles. Son's Island and Son's Geronimo feature glamping opportunities and cabin rentals for those seeking upgraded accommodations. Most campgrounds in the region maintain proximity to water access points, making them popular bases for swimming, tubing, and fishing activities.

Road conditions throughout the Seguin area generally accommodate standard vehicles, though some riverfront campgrounds may have rougher access roads during wet conditions. "Roads are very rough though so make sure you have a high clearance vehicle," noted one visitor to Camp Hueco Springs. The region experiences hot, humid summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F, making water-based camping particularly popular from May through September. Most developed campgrounds require reservations, especially during summer weekends and holidays when river recreation peaks. Occasional flooding can affect campground availability along the Guadalupe River following heavy rainfall events, particularly during spring and fall storm seasons. Cell service is generally reliable near established campgrounds but may diminish in more remote areas.

Waterfront access represents the primary draw for most campers visiting the Seguin area. Multiple reviews highlight the quality of river access, with one camper noting that Son's Island offers "alcohol-allowed" policies alongside amenities like picnic tables, fire rings, and access to showers. Camp Huaco Springs provides multiple river access points with boat-in, hike-in, and drive-in camping options. Travelers seeking more family-oriented experiences often choose Palmetto State Park for its combination of river access, hiking trails, and unique ecosystem featuring dwarf palmetto plants. Sites at River Shade RV Park directly on the Guadalupe River tend to fill quickly during summer months. The proximity to San Antonio (approximately 35 miles) and New Braunfels (15 miles) makes these campgrounds convenient for weekend getaways while still providing scenic riverside camping experiences.

    San Marcos River Resort

    Love this park!

This park is very nice, They do a wonderful job of keeping up with the property. Clean restrooms, clean laundry room, clean pool and hot tub. There's a huge dog park. On Sunday mornings they do coffee and donuts for the community where you can meet other people staying at the park. It's right on the river! Water pressure is great, They even pick up your trash if you put it out in the morning. We've got a toddler and it feels very safe, we're staying here for a few months and we would definitely come back again if we're in the area.

Turkey Sink Camping Area — Guadalupe River State Park

    Awesome campground

We really enjoyed this state park. The sites are spacious, with electric and water hookups. Each site is tucked into the surrounding woods giving you a lot of privacy. The walk down to Guadalupe River is quick and easy. You'll see lots of armadillo and deer roaming through the campground.

    Cranes Mill Park

Top of the line COE park.

Beautiful park teaming with wildlife, with a section for RVs and a section for renters. The RV sites have 30/50amp electric and water connections. The bathroom/shower house was clean, and only about 50 feet from site #20. All sites were well groomed. Unfortunately, there was a burn ban in effect when we were there due to an ongoing drought so campfires were out of the question. A quiet beautiful park.

    Mystic Quarry

Very nice spots, clean bathrooms, and nice amenities

We loved the sites, a bit State parkish. Having a tenting area that is even more wilderness feeling was great so our grown kids could come visit. We (purposely) have a 1 bedroom 5th wheel!!!! The amenities are very nice and the bathrooms are the cleanest I have ever encountered. We will be back!

    Cranes Mill Park

    Beautiful COE Campground

We spent two nights here and with our America the beautiful pass was only $35. Spaces are nicely far apart from each other and pavement pads and level. Bathhouse was clean and had good hot water. Dump station was able to utilize both coming and going into the park. Pretty view overlooking the lake. Excellent Verizon coverage as well.

    Patriot RV Park

    Electrical issues

The RV Park worked ok for us and what we did in this location. We did see a fluctuation in the electrical power. We had a fan setup in the living room and would change speeds all by itself from almost nothing running to running full speed. Several times per minute.

    Independence City Park

    Not for big rigs

There were 4 of us 40’ RVs. Two of us lost covers off of roof top units. There are trees every where that need trimmed before motorhome can go in without damage.

Guide to Seguin

Camping sites near Seguin, Texas range from riverside retreats to natural spring parks within a 30-mile radius. The region sits at the intersection of three Texas ecoregions—Blackland Prairie, Post Oak Savannah, and South Texas Plains—creating diverse camping environments. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 95°F while winter nighttime temperatures can drop below 40°F, making spring and fall the most comfortable camping seasons.

What to do

River activities on the Guadalupe: At Camp Huaco Springs campers have direct access to the Guadalupe River. "The best part about this campground is the easy access to the river. There are some campsites right on the bank of the river and others a short walk away under a grove of trees," notes Troy W.

Paddle sports in calm waters: Son's Island offers private docks for water activities. "Each cabana comes with its own private dock, lots of comfortable seating, electricity, water, BBQ pit, picnic table and hammock," reports Karin R. after staying in one of their glamping tents.

Fishing opportunities: The local waterways support various fish species for anglers. "I actually came to this area to fly fish and I caught a number of small panfish. There are also bass and trout in the river," shares Troy W. about his experience at one local campground.

Unique habitat exploration: The swamp-like environment at Palmetto State Park Campground offers distinctive flora. "Palmetto is a neat micro climate in the middle of central Texas. There are palmetto plants everywhere," explains Chelsea O., highlighting the unusual vegetation that differs from typical Texas landscapes.

What campers like

Riverside camping spots: Waterfront sites are highly valued by visitors to KL Ranch Camp Cliffside. Jennifer M. explains, "We loved that the campsites were riverfront," and Jesse S. adds, "This place is so much fun and so beautiful. We camped in tents in what were some amazing spots."

Shade coverage: Many campers appreciate tree cover during hot Texas days. "There are plenty of shade trees around the campsites which are welcome during the summers in Texas," notes one camper about local accommodations.

Convenient river access: The ability to easily reach water is frequently mentioned. Pollo L. describes one campground experience: "I rode my motorcycle during the afternoons and then took a dip in the river to cool off for dinner."

Family-friendly amenities: Some campgrounds offer extensive recreation options. At Son's Geronimo, Karin R. found, "They also have lots of amenities: 2 pools, 2 hot tubs, volleyball court, basketball court, game room, horseshoe pits and more."

What you should know

Seasonal crowds: Weekends and summer months bring significantly more visitors. Troy W. observes, "During the week this campground is typically not too busy. On the weekends is when the crowds arrive. Likewise, in the winter the number of campers is limited."

Noise considerations: Road noise affects some camping locations. Michael C. notes at one campground, "Only drawback is the park is long and narrow, the access road is right beside the camp sights. Lots of motorcycle traffic at all hours."
