    Equestrian Parking Dispersed

    Good spot!

Really good spot right off the main road, so there was some traffic noise and some random trash. We were the only people there so that was also a bonus.

    East Side Trail Head

Nice sized parking lot, as long as you like dirt bikes

Seems to be a free spot, it is popular with dirt bikers and hikers so as long as a little noise and traffic dont bother you its a great and otherwise quiet area with hiking and biking trails.

    Equestrian Parking Dispersed

    Big lot with trails nearby

Right off the main road, so there was some road noise, but its smooth in and out. Lots of space for quite a few campers. Forest service came by to tell us there would be a prescribed burn but had no problem with us staying. Great spot!

    Brazos Bend State Park Campground

Beautiful park just outside of Houston

We have made day trips to this park for years, but haven’t taken a few nights and camped here - we have been missing out! Gorgeous park with miles and miles of hiking trails. Tons of wildlife - and not just the Alligators. Sites were level and spacious and very well maintained. Will be back again for sure!

    Equestrian Parking Dispersed

    Nice, quiet place to camp

Only one other RV and no equestrian trailers. Some fire pits to have a bonfire. Forest service was doing prescribed burns but it didn’t affect camping.

Guide to Cypress

Camping sites near Cypress, Texas typically experience humid subtropical climate conditions with hot, muggy summers where temperatures frequently exceed 95°F and mild winters with occasional cold fronts. The terrain consists primarily of flat coastal plains at approximately 165 feet above sea level with clay soils that can become muddy after rain. Cypress sits at the northwestern edge of the Houston metropolitan area, creating camping options that balance urban convenience with more secluded natural settings.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Harris County Spring Creek Park offers catch-and-release fishing in a serene setting. "This was a clean, fun, FREE campground and park! The bathrooms were constantly looked after, and the playground was so great for the kids. It was very buggy, so make sure to bring your bug repellent!" notes Kayla S.

Walking and hiking trails: Stephen F. Austin State Park Campground provides numerous shaded paths for exploration. "Very wooded, tons of wildlife," says Andrew C., while another camper observes, "Saw numerous trails that looked easy, and tree/shade covered."

Wildlife viewing: The wooded areas support diverse animal populations. According to Jim P. at Stephen F. Austin State Park Campground, "While we were there we saw an abundance of deer and bunnies, plus we were able to listen in on a conversation between a very large owl who had taken up residence in one of the trees by our site, and a long distance friend several sites down."

What campers like

Clean facilities: Many campgrounds maintain high cleanliness standards. At Northlake RV Resort, "Everything is very clean, bathrooms, grills, swings, pool, and hot tube. The laundry room is modern and very clean," according to Sabrina T.

Swimming options: Several resorts feature pools for cooling off in the Texas heat. At Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort Waller, "The water park and themed activities kept the kids thrilled. Our whole family had a blast!" shares a camper.

Pet amenities: Dog owners appreciate dedicated pet facilities. Marie B. mentions at Highway 6 RV Resort, "They have 2 dog runs, one of them being the largest dog run weve seen at a campground so our mali really got to sprint it out. They also had a free dog wash!"

What you should know

Reservation requirements: The free camping at Harris County Spring Creek Park requires advance planning. Michael J. notes, "You do have to have a reservation through the pros website, and can stay for free one week per month. Park is beautiful and big. Gated at night."

Traffic considerations: Construction can affect access to some campgrounds. A reviewer at Stephen F. Austin State Park warns, "Due to Interstate 10 construction, the eastbound exit for San Felipe is closed so the navigation system took us further East and then backtracked on some horrible condition rural roads."

Security features: Many RV resorts offer enhanced security measures. At Royal Palms RV Resort, reviews highlight that "Safety and community are clearly a priority here, and it shows. The gated entry, friendly neighbors, and regular events really make it feel like home."

Tips for camping with families

Water activities: Multiple options exist for water play during hot months. At Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort, "The kids absolutely loved the water zone and lazy river—we literally couldn't get them to leave," shares a camper who appreciated the "themed activities and crafts."

Playground access: Many campgrounds feature dedicated play areas. Wyatt J. notes about Harris County Spring Creek Park, "Nice park with places kids love. We stayed here with 4 kids. Only about 5 mins away from anything in Tomball."

Halloween camping: Some campgrounds offer seasonal activities. Ashley C. shares about Jellystone, "We have been to this park twice now, once at a tent site and once at a Yogi on the Lake cabin. Both during Halloween time a year apart. What a FUN place to be!! Our kids loved that we got to go Trick or treating at a campground!"

Tips from RVers

Level sites: RV campers prioritize level parking surfaces. James R. at Stephen F. Austin State Park notes, "Semi circle drive thru that fit my 44 ft motorhome and towed Jeep. Very dark with no lighting. We arrived around midnight and was a little difficult finding our spot."

Hook-up considerations: Full service connections are available at several locations. At Traders Village RV Park, "The park is clean, well-managed, and offers full hookups at a reasonable price. One of the highlights is its proximity to the Traders Village flea market, making weekend fun just a walk away."

Site spacing: Space between RVs varies by location. According to Douglas T., "It's a large campground and spaces are very small. There's a grass strip between camp sites. No picnic tables or grills. The office gave us a map and showed us how to get to our site but virtually impossible to understand."
