  Equine paradise

  Lovely park. Beautiful location and property surrounded by oak trees with an abundance of horses, cattle, a few donkeys and one goat. If you have horses this is the place for you if you are transiting through North Central Texas. Nice sites with full hookups. Pastoral setting. Smells like sweet country air. Sites all appear level and are quite long, I assume for those who are hauling their horses. We were just hauling our dogs but this was still an enjoyable stop. Full laundry facilities and Wi-Fi. Close to Dinosaur Valley SP.

  I would rate this park 3.5 out of 5 stars. The park has a variety of facilities which earns it a 4 star rating. But the quality of the facilities only earns it a 3 star rating. So it averages out to 3.5 in my opinion.

  Lake Brownwood State Park is pretty much located in the center of Texas. However, it is a bit of a drive from many of the major cities like Houston, San Antonio, Austin and Dallas. It is fairly convenient to reach from Abilene and San Angelo. If you need to pick up camping supplies there are grocery stores and sporting good stores in the nearby town of Brownwood.

  The main attraction of the park is that it is situated on the shores of Lake Brownwood. There are ample opportunities to take advantage of lakeside activities like swimming, boating and fishing. There are a variety of camping options with tent sites, cabana sites and RV sites. At most of the sites there are nice oak trees that provide shade and can support a hammock. Note that Texas State Parks require 2 inch suspension straps when hanging a hammock. There are boat ramps, fishing piers and a loop hiking trail. The hiking trail is a loop trail, fairly level, but I would say moderately interesting. The real attraction of this park is the lake.

  Some of the facilities such as the restrooms and the cabanas are a bit dated and could benefit from an update. The staff was very friendly when I visited. And the other campers were respectful.

  I would like to say that I visited the park during a weekday when the park had few visitors. However, I've heard that on the weekend the park fills up quickly and can be quite busy.

  Dinosaur Valley State Park Campground

  State Park in my back yard

  Best camping ground ever! Bathrooms and restrooms are newly remodeled, everything is clean and organized. Every camp spot has its own water source and electricity hookup, makes a huge difference at the hot Texas summer days and perfect for spending the nights not in a complete dark in case you’re using only a tent without a generator. The trails are great even in the Texan summer as many of them are beside the river where you can cool off. Highly recommended for families with kids all ages!

  Beautiful park! The lady working the gate should have her picture in the dictionary under customer service. Very pleasant & welcoming!

  The site has lots of shade trees with a view of the lake (not lakeside). Sites are not on top of each other, but no type of barrier between sites. Water had a terrible smell.

  Despite it being the beginning of spring break in Texas & the amount of people here, it is fairly quiet.

  If you’re camping with others, there are 3 double RV sites on this end of the park.

  Would definitely come back here again. — at Copperas Creek Park.

  Who doesn't love dinosaurs?!

  "Dinosaurs may be extinct from the face of the Earth, but they are alive and well in our imaginations."

  This Texas state parks is one of favorites. I have been quite a few times since I was a kid and it never gets old. It is just inside of Glen Rose, Texas, located along the Paluxy river. This park will bring out your inner child.

  Let's start with the facilities. Sosome of the bathrooms are old, but they are well maintained even with all the traffic. This park gets very busy in the summer. So we tent camped but we stayed at an RC site because they don't have water only sites and with a 4 year old and my grandmother, I didn't want to have a walk-in (no bathrooms nearby) or a backpack site. There is quite a bit of shade around the campsites, and there are awesome playgrounds for children.

  Now there are a LOT of trails. They will give you a map that is very helpful and let's you know where all of the track sites and overlooks are. The main track sites are along the river and are so cool see! There is also information things everywhere that tell you about the tracks that were excavated so make sure to check those out!

  The one problem I had was that we went during a drought, so the river is very low and makes it hard to view some of the tracks, also swimming was a bust. So make sure you check the river advisory on their website to see what your getting into. Especially in the hotter months you definitely want to get in the river to cool off.

  This place is larger than life, so make sure you plan your hikes beforehand. My favorite trail is the Buckeye trails. It is about 2 miles, so good for kids, and it is up through the woods. Lots of shade and variety in the path. Don't miss out on this adventure.

  Dinosaur Valley State Park Campground

  Yes- There Were Real Dinosaurs Here!! Great State Park

  On my quest to visit many different Texas State Parks, this one was a great one and one that I would surely return to! The dinosaurs that were here some 100 million years ago intrigued me as well as the beauty of the park itself. My visit was in November and the weather was great. This park offers many hiking trails of different degrees of difficulty as well as access to biking on most of the trails. The campsites were reasonably spacious and  private. The sites on the outside of the loop offer the most privacy and are typically larger. The bathroom facilities have been updated and are very clean and well maintained. I found the staff to be very friendly and offered great advice on where to hike and to photograph for great views. And yes, seeing the actual dinosaur footprints was an easy hike. It was really amazing to stand and see something so real that actually happened so long ago!!

  Dinosaur Valley State Park Campground

  Kid Friendly Swimming Hole - Educational, too!

  This is a great place to bring kids. There is an on-site store, as well as galleries that talk about what it was like when dinosaurs roamed N Texas. The tracks don’t disappoint! There is also a great swimming spot at the first track site.

  The drive-in campgrounds aren’t very private... and the tails around the campground make it easy for people to walk through your site. Something to keep in mind if you camp with your pets, or want privacy.

  Spacious walk-out site. Real hot in July (as expected for Texas). Fire ring and lantern like available. Overall lovely site at a great park.

  Lake Brownwood State Park Campground

  Campsite 50

  Enjoyed our time at Lake Brownwood SP! Stayed at Campsite 50. It was close to the restrooms, but it was a private site. Hiked the Lakeside Trail and the lake was perfect for our kayaks!
