New Frontier RV Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Right off Interstate 90 in Presho, New Frontier RV Campground runs as a straightforward overnight stop and short-term base for travelers crossing South Dakota. The layout gives campers a choice between back-in and pull-through sites, with some positioned under shade trees and others open to the sky. Sites include full hookups with 30- and 50-amp electric, water, and sewer, and most feature a covered wooden shelter over the picnic table, which provides cover during rain without requiring any setup.

Cleanliness is the detail reviewers mention most consistently, across nine separate accounts. Larry M. describes "ultra clean RR's and showers with nice tile and woodwork," and that observation holds across multiple years of reviews. The bathrooms and laundry room are well-maintained, and trash containers are positioned near each site. One thing worth knowing: shower stalls have curtains rather than doors. The mobile homes visible near the entrance are separated from the RV area by a chain-link fence, and the RV side is kept in noticeably better condition than that entrance view might suggest.

WiFi gets strong marks, with multiple campers singling it out as among the best they found on longer trips. Verizon users report four bars of cell signal. The campground also has a small store, a playground with a swing set and basketball goal, and a gas station at the entrance that stocks diesel. The owners have been described as welcoming, and complimentary popcorn and coffee are available at check-in. Good Sam discounts apply.

Access is easy. The campground sits close to the interstate, and check-in runs quickly. The Kennebec KOA is roughly nine miles east along I-90, and Byre Lake Recreation Area lies about eleven miles east for campers wanting a more natural setting nearby. New Frontier operates April 1 through November 15, accepts reservations, and welcomes pets.

The campground works best for RV travelers moving through the region who want reliable hookups, consistent cleanliness, and a quick on-and-off interstate stop.

Wonderful shower pressure

We were only staying for a night, but we found this campground just fine.

Plus: amazing hot water and water pressure in the showers. Amazing wifi (best we’ve had available this trip). Most sites had a wooden covered area for the picnic table, which would be very helpful if it rained.

Con: site wasn’t completely level, showers and bathrooms had curtains only, not doors.

There were lots of garbage bins. Other reviews mentioned the tired mobile homes near the entrance. They are separated from the RV park by a chain link fence. The RV side is clean and maintained.

Lovely sunrise!

We were just there for the night, driving through. We found friendly staff, very clean bathrooms, and a good location, close off I 90, and east walk to a corner store. Would stay here again.

And, as our dogs woke us early, and the sunrise really was lovely.

Great Overnighter or Short Stay Campground

Easy access off I-90 and quick check in. We proceeded to pull through site 5 with FHUs. The campground (CG) owners could not have been nicer. As we were traveling with another couple, they gave our friends site 4, which pulled in the opposite way so our doors faced each other across a nice sized yard area. The yard area was large enough that if you didn’t know the people across from you, you’re still far enough away to not be camping with your neighbors. There was no cable but we got a good OTA channel variety. We received 4 bars on Verizon. The CG WiFi was above average. Great water pressure.  There’s a gas station at the CG entrance with a good diesel price, so that was handy. Nice place for an overnighter or a few days.

Great stopover

We luckily found this place in Presho, SD. The host was a friendly lady named Gwen and the campground was neat and clean. It was an easy stop off I-90. Every site is a gravel pull through with full hookups and trash containers are close to every sight. They also offer free popcorn and coffee. I saw a nice swing set, slide, and basketball goal. Also they have cabins, a restroom, and tent area. Good Sam discount… around $46 for 2 adults and 2 dachshunds. Would stay here again.

Rv Park Basics

Nice, clean, well maintained private park. My downsides, sites very close together and pricey at $50/night for a one-night stop. Much prefer state/national parks.

Great Campground!

We stopped here on our way across South Dakota, and it was the perfect place. It’s right off the interstate and is extremely well-managed and clean. They have lots of yard space to walk dogs along their property, and the staff was incredibly nice and helpful throughout our stay!

Nice little stop over

We stopped for 1 note on the way west to Mt. Rushmore. It is a nice little park with a friendly staff that likes to show folks the garden. Ultra clean RR's and showers with nice tile and woodwork. Definitely a stop over as Presho is a 1 horse town!
