Amazing night here!

We were on the last night of a long cross country road trip and looking for a place to stay on line. We were actually headed to another place, but followed signs to this place and I’m so glad we did! The camp host came out and greeted us warmly, despite being nearly midnight. She picked out the perfect spot for us and walked us there. I’m glad she did, because all spots are all grass and it’s a little difficult to tell where one stops and another starts. The campground has tent and RV sites, and is on the edge of Sprague Lake. Large, well manicures trees offer dappled sunlight, and an amazing front seat to birds! place is spotless. The woman was even raking goose poop. The woman in charge runs a tight ship, but the result is a quiet, clean, grassy oasis with bald eagles nesting next door. Two slight drawbacks, there are train tracks on the other side of the lake. It’s noticeable, but not deafening. Also, it was a bit pricey with a per person charge, a tax, then a 5% fee to pay with a credit card… but better than any alternative we had.

Potential to be very good

We stopped here briefly in a cross country trip, so we got in late and left in the morning. This looks like a new site, made in a flat field near the vineyard. It is basically an open flat field with power/water hook ups in the middle and 14 gravel spots on either side. There are a few young trees planted, but no shade. No picnic tables, no restrooms, all pretty bare bones. There is one shared fire pit for the entire camp near the dumpster. The grass was freshly cut and there was no litter. The grapes growing next to us was a nice view to wake up to.

The one dumpster was very full, and no camp host or personelle to ask questions to. We reserved online about an hour before we arrived at 1am, and online said there were three other campers out of the 14 sites. Yet when we arrived, there were 4 additional campers there, luckily not in the spot we reserved. Heads up: There is a seven dollar tax/fee added on to our bill we didn’t know about until after we checked out. Don’t forget bug repellent. In as many forms as you can wear.

I think once the trees grow in a bit, and if they get picnic tables for each site, it would be much more user friendly.

Beautiful, quiet, clean!

We camped in our A liner Expedition here in late May. Unlike most dispersed camping around, the sites were well spaced, had very little trash and not full. We found a spot on a dirt road off the 4606. It had nice dispersed trees, low sand, and only a few beer cans here and there. We didn’t see another person on our “street” the whole time we were there. There are some tents and RVs in the area we passed that looked rather permanent and “methy,” so just be careful which tried out you pick.

Decent place, beautiful setting

We pulled in here around 10:30pm, and it was a little unclear where to go. There is no after hours check in, and a number handwritten on a sign had no answer when we called. There is no map, Signs are missing, and there is no guidance where to go, or even what number our site was when we found one. It is a beautiful quiet location, and some spaces are spaced appropriately, but the pull through sites were literally on top of each other. There was also a bit of trash. There are porta potties near our campsite, and spaced throughout the grounds, and the next morning we found some showers. Things are old, but cozy. Eventually we found someone to pay for our site.

Great spot for a rest break or weekend stay

We stayed here Sunday night of Labor Day weekend on a cross country trip. We arrived late, and were able to use after hours self check in. There were about 8 sites empty in the grounds, and we were happily surprised by how peaceful and well spaced the camping spots were, many backing up to a lake. There were also nice trails to walk with the dogs in the morning.

Downsides: one of the electrical outlets didn’t work on our post, there were some crazy burrs we had to cut out of our dog’s fur, no recycling, and some amenities were hard/unable to find.
