Happy Holiday Camp Ground

Pull-through sites with rock surfaces and full hookups define Happy Holiday Camp Ground, where campers share covered picnic areas between adjacent spots. The campground sits close to road traffic, which creates consistent noise throughout the night even with ear protection.

Sites accommodate larger RVs but require the full length of each space, leaving limited room for tow vehicles. Concrete slabs provide level parking under mature shade trees, with thick grass covering much of the property. "Incredibly tight spots but that's the only downside," notes one reviewer, highlighting the space constraints that affect parking arrangements. The facility includes a pool, game room, and on-site store, plus cabins and hotel rooms for visitors preferring indoor accommodations.

Staff receives consistent praise for customer service and willingness to help with setup issues. The bathrooms show their age with fixtures dating to the 1990s and stall doors lacking proper latches. WiFi performs well according to multiple visitors. Some long-term residents occupy sites year-round, creating a mixed temporary and permanent camping atmosphere.

The location provides access to regional attractions including state parks and Black Hills destinations. For those exploring the broader area, campgrounds around Rapid City offer additional options. Reservations help secure sites during busy summer months when rates reach their seasonal peak.

A family-friendly campground with outstanding staff service and amenities like pool and game room. Site spacing is tight and facilities need updating, with road noise being a concern for some guests.

Mixed feelings on the campground, dated.

Flat sites, shared overhead picnic table shelter per  2 sites. Sites were small, pull-thru rock but adequate. A few big rigs fit but took entire length of site. Full hookups. No antenna reception except PBS; there was a cable connection, didn't try it. Some campers were permanent and thought $67 a night in August to be expensive. Did not used the pool. Bathrooms look to have been last updated in the 1990's, most bathroom stall doors and shower doors did not have any latches. I would wear shoes in the shower.... There were many broken vehicles behind the restroom area and even a free standing broken refrigerator.

Fairly near other attractions in the State Park,

Nice but traffic noise

Host and facilities are 5 star. Internet fast and amenities are outstanding. Host let me set up out of the rain but road traffic noise kept me up all night, with ear plugs in too.

Great central location for tourism

Incredibly tight spots but that’s the only downside. Customer service here is phenomenal. It was the only campground in SD we stayed at, so maybe that was it, but I can’t stress this enough. The BEST customer service. We had to push our trip back 24hrs, not a problem. When we arrived, all of staff (4 people we ran into within 2 mins,) were sociable and friendly…like long lost friends. The lady who checked us in gave us a few guides for the local area and informational sheets for the campsite. We only stayed one night but we could’ve easily spent a week here.

Small spots

Small spots tight parking for tow vehicle. Pretty cheap though for a good central location to a lot of South Dakota tourist spots and national parks

Expensive but nice shade trees

The showers need to be torn down and started over. The laundry was nice size but only half the machines worked. The lots were pull through and really nice with shade trees. There was real grass and it was thick. There were nice slabs of concrete with a gazebo and picnic tables. The staff was really friendly and the store was cute. You could have fires, full hookups. They have cabins and a hotel as well with a pool and game room. It was the most we have paid for a week stay, with exception of Canada.

Great 4th July weekend.

Our family had a great experience staying over the 4th July. We had a issue with our trailer jack not working properly when we first pulled in, the gentlemen working were more then happy to lend a hand. The kids loved the pool and the game room, will definitely come again.
