Custers Last Chance RV Park and Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Sitting just off the main highway into Custer, this private RV park puts campers within a short walk of downtown and within roughly 12 minutes of the Crazy Horse monument entrance. A trail connects the property to town, and both Custer State Park and Wind Cave National Park are close enough to serve as day-trip anchors. Highway proximity is worth factoring in: some campers report little road noise, while others note it depends on the season and traffic volume.

Sites are gravel and run close together. Hookup availability has varied across reviews over the years, reflecting a campground that has been actively developing its infrastructure, so confirming current electrical and water connections before arrival is a practical step. One consistent amenity is water delivery directly to your site if needed. WiFi is available, and several reviewers mention it working well. Cell service has come up as a recurring topic, suggesting it may be inconsistent depending on carrier.

The owners, Dan and Megan, draw repeated mention for their hospitality. Ralph S. calls the water delivery feature "a great service," and notes their camp dog Duke as part of the welcome. Cancellation policies have generated frustration from at least one camper, so reading the terms before booking matters. Nearby alternatives include Bearded Buffalo Resort to the east and Beaver Lake Campground to the west for campers comparing options in the area. This campground works best for RV travelers who prioritize location over amenity depth and want a no-frills base for exploring the Black Hills region.

Great Hosts

This is a nice campground very close to Custer State Park and Wind Cave National Park. The hosts are accommodating and friendly. The sites are basic with full hookups and will fit any size rig, they have clean water and perfect power. The location is less windy than most parks in the area and even though it's next to the highway we haven't heard any vehicle noise. Just a few blocks to beautiful downtown Custer. We had a fantastic stay and know you will too.

Would not recommend

Pictures are misleading. It is not plush grass nor full hookups. Manager will bring you water to top off your container. You have to pull in slide outs to dump an then return to your sight. There are no discounts on anything. I had put down a hundred and fifty dollars in good faith as we had intended to stay for 7 days. My husband drove into the site, shook his head and said we were not staying in this place. I called the office and said we were sorry but we will be looking for a different place and to credit my deposit back. They credited only $60 because I did not give them sufficient notice of cancellation. I called and was not happy that it cost me $90. But they say their policy is to not deliver customer service in returning all your money. So this shoddy campsite is not anything I would return too. Drive a couple miles further and stay at Custer’s Gulch it is lush with grass and trees and has full hook ups.

SiteWe ended up staying at Custer’s Gulch a few miles down the road.

Great last minute spot.

New campground, looks like they're just getting going. Sites are pretty level, on gravel. They are close together. Electric only, but water is available. Great WiFi. Everyone was nice, we were met as we entered the campground and shown to our spot.

Great price nice hosts

This is a no frills RV park right off the side of the main road into Custer. It is only about 12 minutes to the entrance to Crazy Horse monument. There is no power, water, or sewer. The hosts are very friendly especially Duke the camp dog. The road was quiet at night. This place was all we needed and it didn't cost much. Good location. Very close to the entrance of Custer State Park.

Humble little campground

Great locations to all the attractions in town and area attractions. Dan and Megan are very inviting and accommodating. We love the water delivery feature, what a great service. Duke, their dog is a sweet heart! Can't wait to see what they do next in the park.

Great base for visit

This campground is still developing.  When we stay here, the RV sites were soil/gravel mixed and really close together.  They will deliver water to you to fill up your fresh water tank.  There is not a dump at this location or electric hook ups.  It is right off the highway so depending on the time of year, it could be noisy.  The location is great as it is close to Custer State Park, Mt. Rushmore, and Crazy Horse.  There is also a trail that leads into town.  The owners are very nice.  I look forward to seeing how the campground develops.
