Our Favorite Getaway

This is one of our favorite spots! We can boat, fish, ride our golf cart, hang out by the fire and just enjoy the moment. It also has wonderful handicap accommodations. Hands down one of our favorites!

Beautiful, peaceful area.

First time here. Camped 3 nights and loved it. Nice, level( and plentiful) sites. Great facilities. Only downside is it's difficult in most areas to access the lake with your kayak. We certainly will return!

SiteSite 17. On the water but about 10 ft. above.

Enjoyed our stays.

Good views and boat access. It is relatively small and reservations are difficult to get.

Great Lake Side Campground

We love state park campgrounds and Lake Wateree State Park is a great one. Sites are right on the lake, paved, spacious, clean, well maintained with fire pits, water, electric and picnic tables. It is mid-way between Charlotte and Columbia. Quiet, relaxing and just nice place to getaway from the hustle and bustle.

Busy campground

I can see why this is a busy campground. Bathhouses were clean. Many lakefront sites have posts to tie up your boat to if you have one. Beach area by the store. No WiFi and rarely did we have cell service but that’s not a bad thing! Large sites with some pull through. We had site 39 and there was nothing but woods behind us which was perfect for us. Only negative was I that I was bitten up by mosquitoes and I used bug spray ( obviously I need a better kind) and citronella buckets. Even with a packed campground for the holiday weekend it was relatively quiet especially by 11. This campground tends to be booked solid on weekends so important to make reservations. Also not much for stores close by so pack well. Oh and no alcohol sales on Sunday’s in the county.

We loved it!

We stayed here for 3 nights and really enjoyed it. A few friends came with us, and between us we had 8 kids. Despite being there during the hottest part of the year, we stayed comfortable and had a great time. The swimming area is by the office/shop. There is a really lovely strip of shaded picnic tables where we spent the hottest hours of the day. The water is pretty shallow, so the littlest ones had plenty of space to play and swim without us having to worry. We caught a ton of muscles and ate them. Several in our group enjoyed them very much. Bathrooms were well kept and nice and cool. The hiking trail is beautiful. The park is about 25 minutes from any stores, but they keep their shop extremely well stocked. The ladies there were great with helping us find our way when we did need directions to Walmart, and then later to the hwy to head home. There is no wifi until you're about 15 minutes from the park.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying here and recommend it!

Lake to enjoy

While there are a few hiking trails, if you don’t have a boat or canoe you will be missing out on most of the appeal of this park. The campgrounds were quiet despite being pretty busy, and accommodate RVs and a tent-only site, plus there is a store. Sites are very shady and every site is surrounded by trees, so you don’t feel very close to the other campers. None of the sites have lake views but are all a short walk away.
