We were at site 158 and had not only the lakefront view but easy lake access at our site. Bathrooms were kept pretty clean. Some of the sites are a bit of a hike to get to the bathrooms which is why it doesn’t have 5 stars. If I could have done 4 1/2 I would have. Only thing that would make it the perfect site would have been sewer hook ups, but those are rare in the SC State park system. Only one neighbor was close enough to be sort of visible but they were rarely there. It was nice and quiet and dark at the site in the evening, which is exactly how we like it. We went swimming, floating and fishing in the lake and never had to leave the site. Just wish we had booked a longer weekend as I was not ready to leave that view!
We stayed at the park a couple of times. It’s a very nice county park with full hook ups. They are doing construction right now redoing the boat docks, beach and playgrounds area. It will be very nice when done. Some sites are a little small and some are not very level but if you call the campground hosts and rangers are very helpful in helping you get on the right sight.
Best RV Resort we’ve been to so far. Large lots with nice long pull through, clean and quiet with a friendly staff. Amenities included nice swimming pool and hot tub. Volleyball net and basketball hoop on each end of pool. Shuffleboard, corn hole, sand volleyball. Game room had a pool table, ping pong table, air hockey. Books galore to borrow, DVDs if you have a player which we don’t, but we don’t camp to watch TV. Store had a puzzle you could spend time working on and a checkerboard with rocking chairs to just hang out in. The lake beach was closed for the season when we went but the inflatables looked like they would have been fun! Mile long paved path around the lake was great for walking or biking. Catch and release fishing too. Had a mix of annuals, short term campers and on the other side of the lake they had nice cabins and a small park model village. Exercise room and a nice clean laundry room. Bath house was 8 individual doors to full individual bathrooms of toilet sink and shower which were kept very clean. Cherry Grove beach was only 15 minutes or so away and there was a Food Lion less than 10 minutes for grocery shopping needs. Resort store had reasonable prices for ice and wood to burn in the fire pit. Only negatives which weren’t a big deal was nothing can be strapped to trees… aka no laundry line or hammock attached to the trees and no tents allowed. We will go back! Wish it was closer to home.
I can see why this is a busy campground. Bathhouses were clean. Many lakefront sites have posts to tie up your boat to if you have one. Beach area by the store. No WiFi and rarely did we have cell service but that’s not a bad thing! Large sites with some pull through. We had site 39 and there was nothing but woods behind us which was perfect for us. Only negative was I that I was bitten up by mosquitoes and I used bug spray ( obviously I need a better kind) and citronella buckets. Even with a packed campground for the holiday weekend it was relatively quiet especially by 11. This campground tends to be booked solid on weekends so important to make reservations. Also not much for stores close by so pack well. Oh and no alcohol sales on Sunday’s in the county.
Long weekend stay at site #42. Nice level and large site. Some sites are smaller and closer but our site and those on both sides of us were large and level. Bathhouse by our site was kept clean and stocked well. Small lake for fishing and they rent canoes and kayaks. Lots of trails. Equestrian camping area on the other side which we had no reason to visit.
Update to this review … second visit this time site 41 which again was a large site. Unfortunately we had a severe storm second night there, our side had no damage but there were trees down all over the rest of the park. Lost our electricity which means we lost water. They locked all of the restrooms because of this and didn’t bother putting up any signs or provide any alternative for those who were in tents, which there was a significant amount of people. since it was Memorial Day weekend the park was full. We had our bathroom in our trailer and water in our holding tank but we felt bad for the people in pop ups and tents. Still had no electricity the next day and still no bathrooms so we decided to call the electric company and was told the address of the park was never logged as having outage! Seriously?!!! Electric company sent workers out and later that day electricity was restored. This park is poorly managed, it should not take a call from a camper to the electric company. Following day they locked one of the bathrooms again because of a broken toilet until they could get it fixed, I understand that, but again no sign was posted … just a locked door. Overall we were very disappointed with the way the rangers handled things and won’t be going back any time soon.
This campground was recommended to us for our maiden camping trip with our new RV. We were very pleasantly surprised. Camp site was large, they had two bathhouses, camp store and even a mini golf course. The lake was larger than expected with a beach area. Only negative was that they had the trash dumpsters scattered throughout the park and we had the misfortune of having one at the front of our site and someone had put fish guts in it, which made for a rank stench at our site. We made notes of which sites to avoid as most are good. Some sites even have sewer although ours did not. We were at site 34. All in all it was a great first trip in our new RV!
