Best RV Parks & Resorts near Camden, SC

Camden offers several RV parks with full hookup capability, including Wateree Lake RV Park & Marina, Columbia Camden RV Park, and Big Rig Friendly RV Resort. Wateree Lake RV Park features lakeside sites with 50-amp electrical hookups, water, and sewer connections. Columbia Camden RV Park in Lugoff provides year-round access with big-rig friendly pull-through sites, though reviews indicate the quality may be inconsistent. Big Rig Friendly RV Resort lives up to its name with spacious sites that accommodate larger motorhomes, offering electric, water, and sewer hookups alongside market access. The concrete pads at several parks provide stable setup options for leveling. "Very nice concrete pads; large sites with fire pit, grill, and picnic table. Gravel roads have washed out areas but not terrible," noted one camper.

Many RV parks in the area accept reservations, which is recommended during busy travel seasons. Sites are generally spaced to accommodate slide-outs, though proximity varies between parks. Pumphouse Road RV Park offers both 30-amp and 50-amp service across its 48 sites, with laundry facilities available for extended stays. Cell service remains reliable at most locations, though internet access may require personal hotspots outside of parks with dedicated WiFi. Dump stations are available at most parks, with Wateree Lake and Columbia Camden both offering on-site sanitary dump facilities. Pet policies are generally accommodating, with most parks allowing dogs with standard leash requirements. Grocery stores and supplies require some planning, as several reviewers mentioned limited shopping options in immediate proximity to the campgrounds.

Cheraw State Park Campground — Cheraw State Park

    Off season gem!

Didn’t have any expectations of this place since it’s in the middle of nowhere and not many photos. We loved it here. We were lucky enough to catch a great view of Jupiter merging with Saturn last night. Super cheap. We stayed four nights for under $100. 30/50 hookups and water. No sewer but very close dump station in campground. Primitive camping area for tents too. Pull through sites and back in. Spacious sites that feel nicely private surrounded by evergreens which is a nice relief in winter to see trees with leaves. The lake is beautiful. Awesome walking trail that takes you to the other side of the lake where there is a playground. Lots of swings and benches and picnic tables around. Barely anyone here in December, so it feels so nice to be out of our house but not needing masks constantly. When it isn’t off season they have cheap boat rentals. Firewood is $6.50 per bundle.

Very nice concrete pads; large sites with fire pit, grill, and picnic table. Gravel roads have washed out areas but not terrible. Very open and quiet. Several long-term residents.

Even though we had a few rainy days we could see the beauty of this park. Clean heated restrooms in Winter is a bonus. Lots of things to do for all ages. Helpful and friendly staff.

    Woodsmoke Family Campground

    Overnight Stop

Ok for overnight stop but wouldn't be a travel destination. Most sites seem to be long term or permanent sites. Very close to neighbor site, with fire pit being extremely close. Water, Sewer, Power, WiFi

    Sweetwater Lake Campground

    I love this place!

Sweetwater Lake Campground is a small RV campground. There is electric and water hookup and a dump station. Lots are decent size and fairly level on grass or gravel. The owners are very nice and available, if needed. Reservations are not taken, so you pull in and pick your spot. Drop your money in a lock box. The property has a nice size lake and all spots face it. There are fire pits and hammocks. The best and most fun part about this campground are the rescue donkeys. Their shelter and grazing area is situated directly behind the camper row. You can hear them bray and they will come to you and let you pet them, although, you should use caution as they warn you that donkeys bite. This is a very nice, quiet campground surrounded by private property of fields and lake. I really enjoyed our stay here!

    Chester State Park Campground

    Campsites and views, oh my!

First time staying at Chester State Park. Checked in at the Ranger’s station with friendly staff and a small store front with ice available. Picked pull through site 16. All 25 of the sites are on mostly level ground. The lake from the campground has a fairly new access via a ADA compliant walkway with lighting leading to swings, benches and Adirondack chairs surrounding a rock fire pit. There are benches facing the lake for sitting and or fishing and a new deck that provide even better views of the lake. The trails are well marked and wide that run along the lake edge. There is fishing, kayaks and canoes at the boat dock for rent and to our children’s disappointment no swimming in the lake. The other side of the park has the boat dock, playgrounds for the kiddos and plenty of grassy areas and picnic tables for sitting by the lake. Also there is a professional disc golf course on site. Last but not least the bathhouse is up to date, clean and well stocked.

    Sesquicentennial State Park Campground

    Needs improvements

Not a big rig friendly area. Our site was 30 amp, no sewer. I backed in the way I was told to and realized our water and electric were on the curb side. Had I known this ahead of time, I could have maybe pulled in another way. The service from another site was less than 3 feet from my power inlet to the camper. I called to make sure it would be ok to plug in there and they said no, even though no one used that site. The bathhouse was well below standards and really just unusable. I’ll pick another place if I’m ever in the area again.

Military Park Shaw AFB Wateree Recreation Area and FamCamp

    Wateree Tent Camping

This was my family’s first time tent camping in the cold weather and it wasn’t that bad. The lakeside tent area provided beautiful scenery with access to restrooms and showers. It wasn’t too crowded as it was military members only and you can’t beat the price for a lakeside spot. We would definitely go tent camping here again!

Cypress View Campground — Santee State Park

    Cypress View Campground

This is one of the two campgrounds at Santee State Park, and it is as different from the other as night and day. Unlike the dirt roads at Lakeshore Campground(the other campground in the park) the roads in Cypress View are paved. The sites are gravel, and many of them are pull-through sites. Although tent camping is allowed in Cypress View, I would feel out of place since most of the campers are RVs. However, our teardrop camper fits right in. Cypress View is a much smaller campground than Lakeshore Campground, but the amenities are the same. Every campsite is a short walk from the lake, and the campground is closer to the store than Lakeshore Campground. Unlike Lakeshore Campground, Cypress View Campground’s sites are much closer together, so there is not as much privacy. The campground is quiet, other than the noise from the highway.   That may be one reason to be in an RV or a travel trailer--to cut out some of the noise at night.

Close to the campground, there is a tennis court, a boat launch, Fisheagle Tours, a picnic shelter, kayak rentals, hiking trails, and more. It is conveniently located to most of the state park’s attractions without having to drive so far. Cypress View Campground is also close to the main office and the boat dock.

If you had rather stay in a cabin, there are cabin rentals on the water. They are accessed by way of a boardwalk across the water. The bath house is modern and has hot showers. It is centrally located so that it isn’t that far of a walk from any of the campsites.

Overall, I do recommend this campground, especially if you are in a travel trailer or an RV. If you are tent camper, you would probably better enjoy being at the other campground in the park.

Guide to Camden

Camping opportunities near Camden, South Carolina include both lakeside and wooded sites with varying levels of amenities. Lake Wateree borders the eastern edge of the region, providing water access for campers at several locations. Summer temperatures regularly reach the mid-90s with high humidity, making shaded sites particularly valuable during peak season.

What to do

Lake activities: Wateree Lake RV Park & Marina offers direct access to Lake Wateree with a dedicated beach area. "The beach area is super nice to spend a day on the water with your family," notes Jake, who visited in 2021. The park includes a boat ramp for those bringing watercraft.

Trail exploration: Lee State Park Campground features multiple hiking trails through woodland areas. "Check out the artesian wells and other nature spots," suggests camper Eddie. The park combines natural features with equestrian facilities for a unique outdoor experience.

Bird watching: Spring camping at Sesquicentennial State Park Campground provides excellent bird watching opportunities. A camper mentions, "Set in the woods, making it easy to forget you're in Columbia! Quiet, lots of birds in the spring."

What campers like

Security features: Wateree Lake RV Park & Marina offers enhanced security measures that guests appreciate. Charles F. noted, "They have a security gate to keep passers by out." This added safety feature helps maintain the peaceful camping environment.

Quiet surroundings: Broad River Campground provides a peaceful atmosphere away from urban noise. Will J. shared, "The vibe is residential/family oriented... Felt safe. Felt reserved." The campground's layout includes both open field sites and more secluded options with scattered trees.

Trail network: Behind Broad River Campgound lies an extensive trail system many visitors overlook. "There are a bunch of trails behind the campground. I don't think a lot of people knew the scope of how extensive the trail system was - but it was really pretty back there," explains Will J.

What you should know

Variable site spacing: Site proximity varies considerably between Camden area campgrounds. At Broad River, a camper observed, "They have an open area in a field and then a few sites more spread out with some trees scattered around."

Distance to supplies: Some campgrounds require planning for provisions. One camper at Broad River noted, "Campground is pretty far from restaurants, grocery stores, etc. so plan accordingly."

Equestrian presence: Big Rig Friendly RV Resort offers spacious, level sites suitable for larger rigs. "This place was well thought out when it was being built, lots of space, great level sites, nice dog park," reports Nicole C. The resort continues to develop additional amenities.

Tips for camping with families

Water play options: Sesquicentennial State Park includes a splash park specifically designed for children. A camper named Ruth mentions, "There is a small water play area for children. They have paddle boats also."

Kid-friendly hiking: The trails at Sesquicentennial State Park are manageable for younger hikers. CeCelia L. shared, "I took a group of 8 wild middle schoolers here and we had a blast hiking the trails, boating, and unplugging for a while!"

Wildlife viewing: Lee State Park offers opportunities to spot local wildlife including deer. Ruth J. shared her experience: "I enjoy doing the trails and spotting dear [sic]." The park's natural setting provides good wildlife habitat.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Choose sites based on shade preferences at Wateree Lake RV Park. Chad L. explains, "This location has 2 RV lots. Riverside is heavily wooded which provides a ton of shade on the hot summer days. Taylor Creek is newer with less trees providing lots of open space and great for Solar regeneration."

Signal strength: Cell service and internet connectivity vary across Camden area rv sites. At Wateree Lake RV Park, Charles F. reported "better than average/strong Wi-Fi," which is valuable for those needing to stay connected.

Road conditions: Internal campground roads may require careful navigation. Some campgrounds have gravel roads that can develop issues after rain. Assess road conditions upon arrival, especially when driving larger rigs.
