Historic site visits: 10-15 minute drive from many campgrounds to various Revolutionary War and maritime historical points. Fort Getty Campground offers on-site historical structures. One visitor mentioned, "Such a lovely vantage point with your tent location from the top of FORT GETTY. Who knew?"
Hiking with pets: Multiple trail systems connect throughout the region. At Massasoit State Park Campground, "hiking trails are great, bike trails are great. Lakes have great fishing," according to Lorie K. Many trails connect to larger conservation areas with moderate difficulty ratings.

Water proximity: Fishermens Memorial State Park Campground provides coastal access without ocean views. "Best location ever to the beach. New facilities, clean and quiet campground," says Sabine B. The park sits approximately 35 minutes from Tiverton.
Variety of camping options: From tent platforms to full hookup RV sites. "The campground is broken into sections depending on water/electric/sewer. My campsite was located in the water only loop," explains Kristen B. who stayed at Fishermens Memorial. Options range from $25-$45 per night depending on residency and hookups.
Pet exercise areas: Carr Point Recreation Facility offers waterfront walking areas. "Nice, well separated sites... Nice water views and close to a walkable beach," notes James and Susan K. These areas provide alternatives to Newport RV Park's adjacent dog park.
What you should know
Site levelness varies: Many campgrounds require significant leveling equipment. At Melville Ponds Campground, "The main campground is on a slope, so be prepared for some leveling requirements, especially sites #216 and #217 (front to back). Also, our site #215 was at the bottom of the hill, so it was a bit mucky," warns Brad B.
Reservation timing: Most campgrounds require booking 3-6 months in advance for summer weekends. Winter availability is limited primarily to Meadowlark RV Park and portions of Newport RV Park, with most others closing from November through April.
Pet requirements: Documentation standards vary between campgrounds. Rabies certificates are commonly required, and some parks have breed restrictions. Some campgrounds charge additional pet fees ranging from $1-$5 per night.

Pool access: Normandy Farms Campground provides multiple swimming options. "Four pools, fishing pond, lodge, trivia night, soccer, baseball, softball and frisbee golf and so much more," shares Jennifer H. These facilities supplement beach access at other locations.
Playground facilities: Most campgrounds have basic playground equipment, but quality varies significantly. Massasoit State Park recently upgraded their play areas: "it is just reopening now, renovations cont. and the updates are fabulous. everything is new the playground is fantastic," according to Lorie K.
Bathroom considerations: Family-friendly bathroom facilities differ widely across campgrounds. At Boston/Cape Cod KOA, one camper noted: "There were long lines for showers every night and the showers were very outdated and not clean at all." This contrasts with other campgrounds offering more modern facilities.
Tips from RVers
Dump station access: Meadowlark RV Park provides sewer connections without shower facilities. "This is a very crowded mobile home park that has a few motorhome/RV sites. No amenities such as shower or toilets. They do accept and honor Good Sam and Military for a 10% discount," explains Paula C. Alternative dump stations are available for $10-$20 at various locations within 10 miles.
Site spacing: Most RV parks near Tiverton feature closer sites than typical forest campgrounds. At Meadowlark RV Park, a camper observed, "This camp was not our favorite but it was close to Newport and the beach," with another noting it's "Bit expensive" but a "Quiet place."
Naval facility options: Military members can access Carr Point Recreation Facility with limited amenities. "There are 6 spots with water and electric, there's a campground not too far with a dump station for $20. The view is nice and there's a recreation area next to the campground," reports Kaitlin B.
