Verdigris River

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Fishing drives most visits to this US Army Corps of Engineers campground along the Verdigris River, on the downstream side of Oologah Dam. Sites sit close together, with the first two especially exposed near the road; the last site in the row has more separation. Anglers can launch a boat or kayak directly from this stretch of river. Amenities include picnic tables, firewood, trash service, and cell coverage. Among places to camp near Oologah, this one draws those focused on water access over hiking or developed facilities. Bring your own gear; sites are basic.

Great for fishing

This side of the dam isn’t known much for camping, people tend to camp on the other side where you can hike and boat. This side of the dam is for fishing. Spent many many MANY nights going night fishing with my family growing up and it was always so much fun! The camping sites...... they are very close together unless you get the very last one. It’s near a wooded area. The first 2 are out in the open, by the roads, do a cartwheel and you are in the next camping spot... You can put a boat in the river on this side or kayak up and down.

Oologha, Ok Nostalgia

Many moons ago back in the day. The year was 1977. Just got married in Miami, Ok. Rode in our primer gray '69 Mustang Fastback. Took my Uncle with us and headed out to Oologha Lake from Claremore. What a camp area!! Threw a line in and I caught a 12 pound Drum! I was 22 and so proud of that fish!! Built a fire and cleaned him. Wrapped in foil and cooked with fried potatoes and corn on the cob!! Best dinner ever and then slept out on the ground under the stars!! Beautiful lake. Quiet and peaceful!!

Small Tent Only Campground

This small campground is perfect if you are tent camping and need a quick place to stop and rest for a day or two. Oologah Lake is beautiful and the hiking trails are beautiful!
