    Maumee Bay State Park Campground

Clean, spacious, fairly private with lots of activity options

We've camped at Maumee Bay State Park twice and enjoyed it both times.  The campground is part of a larger resort complex that includes a hotel, marina, a nice beach on Lake Erie, a second beach on an inland lake, golf course, mowed hiking trails and - our favorite - about 5 miles of beautiful, paved bike paths.  It's all very clean and well maintained.  The whole place has a welcoming, friendly vibe.

We camped on site 47, electric only.  Very level and spacious paved spot with its own shade tree.  Nearby shower house accessible by well-lit paved path.  Our only problem was a bit of water puddling near the camper/fire pit but it went away after the first night.

The campground is spread out so everyone brings bicycles and also saw a few golf carts.  Very nice for family bicycling!  Saw lots of wildlife on our rides.

The surrounding area is kind of industrial.  We toured it the first year we went (very interesting!) but stayed close to camp this year.

    Charles Mill Lake Park Campground

    mixed feelings 😕

Upon arrival friendly staff greeted us. Bath houses are clean and well maintained.  Our site was not clean and ready.  Picnic table looked like it was not cleaned since last season and the fire pit was full of rubbish.  Had campers behind us who played music so loud we couldn't hear each other talk.  I asked the gentleman to please turn it down and they did slightly. Another camper also asked them to turn it down and again it was very slight.  Well after midnight music continued.  No park ranger made rounds until Saturday morning and throughout the day.

The lake is gorgeous this weekend and we enjoyed riding bikes and walking the park.

May be back to try again.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    Love this place

A great campground in Ohio. So clean and so many things to do. Campsites are close together but they do honor quiet hours. Great trail around the lake and a fun and challenging disc golf course.

    Kelleys Island State Park Campground

    Best weekend camping

We will definitely be going back! Campground is on the lake and is beautiful! So many things to do! The camp is clean, has a playground, and movie night. Bath house is a typical campground bath house. We had a tent site and it was huge! Sites come with fire pit and picnic table. Beach is within walking distance of campsite.

    Camp Sandusky

    Very nice campgrounds!

There is so much structure and order to this campground! The grounds are laid out so nicely! One big circle with cross roads all along the way. You can camp however you'd like too! They have RV sites, tent sites and cabins. All mixed in together so you can travel with all your favorite campers. They do breakfast every morning in the front pavilion for $4.50 (all you can eat pancakes, 1 sausage and coffee) I haven't tried it yet, but its certainly popular. Laundry is open 24 hours a day and in an open area. Not the biggest fan of that due to needing to do laundry in the rain. Bathrooms are clean and standard. Row of toilet stalls and showers in a separate room. They have a stellar playground area, I don't have kids but even I was drawn to wanting to play on it. Very pet friendly around here. Close to downtown, near Cedar Point and all the other attractions over here. They have 2 pools, one being heated. We haven't had a bad rain storm while we're here but you can tell by the ground of our spot its going to be bad and super muddy. All in all this campground is pretty awesome.

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    Very nice campground

This campground is very large with lots of spots to choose from. The C portion has few trees, but if you choose a spot off one of the south circles, the sites are private. The bathhouse is very clean and well maintained. If you want quiet, it may not be for you because lots of families camp there. Quiet hours were, however, quiet! Trails are wide, grassy, and mowed, great for families who want to walk with children. WiFi is not strong, so don't plan on streaming a movie in the evening. There are plenty of things to do, though. My husband and I had a great time!

Guide to Republic

Glamping options near Republic, Ohio provide camping accommodations with comfort amenities throughout the Lake Erie region. These upscale camping experiences range from fully-equipped yurts to premium cabins, located primarily at state parks along the Lake Erie shoreline. What to do

Hiking and nature exploration: Maumee Bay State Park offers extensive boardwalks constructed by the Ohio Civilian Conservation Corps exclusively for foot traffic. "Several lakes are good for fishing or boating. Many trails, some grassy and some paved are good for walking, running, and biking," notes Lee D. The park's natural wetlands provide multiple recreation options 45 miles north of Republic.

Beach activities: Crystal Rock Campground provides access to a rocky beach area for swimming. A camper mentioned, "The Park has a rocky beach (shoes NECESSARY) which is actually a nice swimming area if you aren't looking for sand under your feet or blanket." This beach also serves as a launch point for kayaks or sailboards in the protected cove.

Island exploration: South Bass Island State Park offers unique island-based glamping close to Republic, Ohio. "The island is pretty well known as a party island so we generally only camp here off-season now. There is a lot to see and explore like the caves, the monument in the world famous bars," reports Daniel U. Visitors travel by ferry and typically use bikes or golf carts for transportation around the island.

Bird watching: The wetland areas near Lake Erie serve as important habitat for migratory birds. "I came for the birding and wasn't disappointed," explains Dan N. about Maumee Bay. What campers like

Privacy between sites: Maumee Bay State Park Campground receives praise for site layout. "One of my favorite things about this campground is that your spots are close together which is great for safety, however with the bushes and brush, it feels super private," explains Kayla H. The vegetation between sites creates individual spaces while maintaining proximity to facilities.

Convenient location: Milan Travel Park offers accessibility for travelers. "This campground is right off of interstate 80, and couldn't be easier to get to! As close as it is, there isn't much road noise," notes Tracey S. The location provides quick access to regional attractions while serving as a practical overnight stop.

Cliff-side views: South Bass Island features distinctive camping spots with water views. "This campground has beautiful, cliff-side sites right on the water, which is probably not good for small children," cautions Megan M. These premium tent sites provide direct lake views unlike most inland glamping options near Republic.

Access to Cedar Point: Several campgrounds market themselves as Cedar Point access points. "Perfect for our visit to Cedar Point. We got there late at 9:00 pm and didn't have to check out until 8:00 pm the next day so our RV stayed plugged in all day," explains Elise A. about Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point. The campground stay includes early entry passes into the amusement park.
