Several state parks and private campgrounds near Sherrodsville, Ohio provide rustic cabins and furnished cabin rentals with varying amenities. Atwood Lake Park Campground offers cabin accommodations with access to a swimming beach, hiking trails, and fishing areas. Woods Tall Timber Resort features cabins available from May through November with full hookup capabilities nearby. The cabins at these locations typically include electricity, and some offer kitchenettes with basic cooking facilities. According to one visitor, "We had a cozy cabin with 2 bathrooms. We also had a small kitchen where we could cook when we didn't want to cook over the fire." Most cabins include picnic tables and fire rings outside for outdoor cooking and dining.

Cabin types range from basic one-room structures to deluxe models with multiple bedrooms and bathrooms. Canton/East Sparta KOA Holiday - Bear Creek Ranch provides KOA cabin camping options with standard and deluxe models. Salt Fork State Park Campground maintains year-round cabin availability with various sizes to accommodate different group needs. Pet policies vary significantly between locations, with some cabins being strictly pet-free while others welcome dogs with additional fees. The owners were great and very helpful," though they mentioned cabins were "a little high in price."

Most cabin rentals provide beds with mattresses, though quality varies considerably. A reviewer at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park mentioned, "The bunk beds have very thin RV style bunk bed mattresses. And the master bed mattress was a weak memory foam." Visitors should plan to bring their own linens, pillows, towels, and toiletries unless specifically told these are provided. Kitchen supplies typically include only basic items, so packing cooking utensils, dishes, and food storage containers is recommended. Firewood can be purchased on-site at most locations, with prices ranging from $5-7 per bundle. Small general stores at campgrounds like Atwood Lake Park offer basic provisions, but for extended stays, bringing groceries from larger towns is more economical. Standard check-in time for most cabin rentals is 3:00 PM with checkout at noon.

      Salt Fork State Park Campground

Huge campground in huge park short drive from Route 70

We found site F26 at the far end of the loop. Short paved pad with electric very near a simple clean bathroom with flush toilets. Sites are treeless and fairly close together but the sites in our mini loop all backed up to the woods. Surprised to encounter mosquitoes in October. Overall the campground is huge with 5 separate loops that are spread far apart. The check in station is a significant distance from the first loop A and more than a mile from loop F so if you don’t have reservations, go to the website to find out which sites are available then drive around to make your selection -then call or go online to register. $45.50 for electric only site includes booking fee.

      Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

      beautifull park BUT!!!!

The park is beautiful, unlevel shade sites; is challenging to get the trailer level.  unfortunately, the bathhouses are neglected, dark and full of mildew inside the showers.  The park really needs to upgrade the bathhouses. The park itself is very nice and offers a lot of opportunities for outdoor exploration and hiking.

      West Branch State Park Campground

Great overnight close to Ohio Turnpike

We were passing through on a weeknight in mid September. Many open sites. Sites are paved and many are sloped. Most are shaded. Our site #41 was fairly level with electricity. Close to huge bathhouse with flush toilets, showers and laundry. High above the lake with views through the trees. Appeared there were many long term campers but just as good for our short overnight stay. Online registration. $45 for electric only site.

      Very Nice Visit

Spent three nights there in August Mid-week.  Was pretty quiet but was clean and nicely taken care  of.  No mosquitos or bugs at night.  Nice walking paths.  Pool, hot tub, outdoor showers all very nice.

      Raccoon creek

A little too close together for my comfort. But very nice and relaxing area. And definitely more spread a part than commercial campgrounds.

      Clay's Resort Jellystone Park

NO communication and severely lacking customer service skills

I won’t rate the other categories yet but I’ve been upset the whole process trying to plan my trip and the people have made it impossible. I’m constantly unable to get ahold of the park. I keep getting put on the“call back list” when trying to modify a reservation only for NO ONE to ever call back. I finally get ahold of someone after a MONTH… only to have zero customer service skills… they just said“oh we don’t even have a call list” so I ask for another form of communication I can have with me since my trip is in a month and I’ve had these issues for a month… they offer ZERO solutions and are not empathetic either. Another issue was last year I was hospitalized for several months due to an early twin birth so I had to push my trip to the following year… when I FINALLY got ahold of the park last year the women I spoke with trying to manage the rescheduling…was ZERO help surprise surprise… on top of that it took 13 calls and weeks before a manager got back to me…making the window to reschedule or get refunds closer to closing adding stress that you might not get to make your next move how you’d like… anyway…I simply asked for dates that matched the costs that we already paid for the trip so I didn’t have to pay more… I simply asked for it to be within the summer days since my previous reservation was during the summer time with all the extra water park and amenities that close at the end of August. I booked when my kid could use all amenities and there were no hour restrictions either due to still being in season. However the lady couldn’t accommodate or recommend any alternate dates to suite my trip that weren’t several hundred dollars more… now we started out with a trip all paid for last year with all amenities no hour restrictions to a weekend we had to pay more and are restricted hours wise on the summer amenities. As the person doing reservations you should be able to recommend dates and help me plan the trip accordingly to the money spent and not sit on the other end of the phone demanding I just give you dates…. After our trip we will never plan or schedule anything at this park again. Regardless of the amenities… for families traveling far distances you couldn’t make it anymore inconvenient, difficult, and time consuming for simply planning questions or just getting ahold of you in general. No sorrys…. Just a whole lot of…”hmm that’s weird well oh well, next” kind of attitude. Zero solutions just excuses. So that being first impressions not too excited to find out what we are in for when we arrive. Especially reading other reviews about deflated balls so you can’t use the hoops, broken a/c units that the property won’t even handle that their own employees have to give up their own personal comfort cause management won’t?… concession stands trash everywhere… broken hot tubs, WiFi not working in cabins for night time with children is tough…sad that my family’s first camping trip ever hasnt even happened yet and it’s been nothing but a headache to plan because of the staff. Yall make money to make the experience smooth for your consumers but somebody missed the memo.

      Clay's Resort Jellystone Park

      Overpriced under managed. Great potential.

I have to agree with all the other reviews. It’s a great facility with a ton of potential it just seems poorly managed. The sites are not up to par with other campgrounds in the same price bracket nationwide. The staff does not have great attitudes and are put off being asked to assist. They say no scooters or electric bikes but there’s a thousand golf carts flying around because realistically it’s not a walkable park. They would benefit from a tram or trolley on busy weekends to go from camping areas to activities. Check-in was rough after hours especially trying to navigate to find your site is extremely difficult. We drug a few trees across the top of our unit. We were originate to have friends take us to our spot or we would not have found it until morning. Underwhelmed for the $180/night camp spot.

      Tappan Lake Park Campground

      Never again

After a bad experience two years ago I thought I'd give this campground another chance- what a mistake. My reservation was for one night and it was so peaceful I extended another night, peaceful it was not. The loud music began and I called the office for someone to come silence them. After half an hour I called back and was told there wasn't anyone to respond. I then told the girl(Lindy or Lindsey) to refund me for the night I was going to pull out. She wanted to charge me$53 for a cancellation fee on a$49 charge. The call got ugly and I ended up calling the rangers myself since she was incapable of making the call. I will never come back here again.

Staff at the marina are very helpful," reports one Atwood Lake Park Campground visitor.

Hiking trails: Multiple trail networks connect various camping areas to lakeshores and woodlands. At West Branch State Park Campground, "There are many scenic hiking trails" according to campers, with one noting "There are little hideaway trails everywhere, making for a fun adventure!"

Horseback riding: Seasonal equestrian activities are available at select campgrounds. Canton/East Sparta KOA Holiday offers guided rides from spring through fall. A visitor shared, "Took the kids on the horse ride and they loved it. All staff were very friendly."

    What campers like

Large lakefront sites: Water-access sites with boat tie-ups are highly valued. "The spots by the lake are outstanding!" notes one Atwood Lake visitor. Another Clendening Lake Marina & Campground guest enjoyed "Lakeside spot, snow flurries, quiet except for the woodpeckers. It is a bit of a drive from the freeway, but worth the effort."

Clean facilities: Bathroom and shower facilities receive consistent praise across most locations. A Salt Fork State Park Campground visitor noted that "The park is very well groomed and most of the trails within the park had been cleared of vegetation so there was no fighting through the weeds."

Family-friendly amenities: Playgrounds, beaches, and scheduled activities make these destinations appealing for families. "My kids and I have been coming to Atwood for the last 10 years. We look forward to it every summer. The people are friendly and there is always something to do!" reported a regular visitor.

Privacy between sites: Tree coverage provides natural separation at many locations. A West Branch camper appreciated the "private, spacious, shady sites," while another described sites as having "many trees that provide separation."

    What you should know

Reservation timing: Popular waterfront sites book quickly, especially for summer weekends. A West Branch visitor advises, "Make reservations! (6 months in advance). Waterside sites fill up quickly!"

Site terrain challenges: Many campgrounds feature sloped terrain. At West Branch, a camper reported, "Our site was labeled slight slope. That was a joke. We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches."

Seasonal availability: Most cabin rentals operate from April through October with limited winter options. Woods Tall Timber Resort maintains a defined season from "May 1 to Nov 1" according to their information.

Cell service limitations: Remote locations often have weak or non-existent coverage. A Clendening Lake visitor noted, "Cell service is very weak, but the wifi worked for us," while another camper reported, "There is no cell service up there so be prepared, we lost it for about 20 minutes before the camp site."

    Tips for camping with families

Beach facilities: Check which swimming areas have lifeguards and children's amenities. Atwood Lake features "a beach area with toys for the kids and adults," according to one visitor.

Nature programs: Several parks offer educational programming during summer months. Salt Fork State Park provides nature center activities and guided walks. A visitor noted the park has "Trails that lead along shore line to old stone house built in early days of Ohio. Caves to be explored that are easy to access."

Book exchange: West Branch provides a book swap shelf at their shower house. A camper shared, "There is even a book exchange shelf at the shower house in case of rainy days. The park office loans games and sports equipment to campers."

Ice cream social: Saturday evening treats are a weekly tradition at some parks. A Woods Tall Timber Resort visitor appreciates that the location has "a community of campers who watch out for all the kids like they're their own!"

    Tips from RVers

Water fill logistics: Be aware of water station design limitations. A West Branch RVer warned, "The water fill is on an incline so when our tank was 'full' pulling away from fill station it was really only 2/3 full."

Site selection: Carefully review site descriptions for grade information. A visitor at Canton / East Sparta KOA Holiday - Bear Creek Ranch mentioned, "Mostly gravel site..heavy construction where patio sites are... Stepped up hill gravel sites. Very difficult to ride bikes on loosegravel."

Cabin alternatives: Consider deluxe cabin rentals when traveling with larger groups or during shoulder seasons. "The KOA cabins were beautiful and very clean," according to a visitor.

Hook-up placement: Some older campgrounds have oddly positioned utility connections. Check site photos before booking or call ahead for details on the exact location of electric, water and sewer connections relative to standard RV layouts.
