American Wilderness Campground allows pets at all accommodation types including tent sites, RV spots, cabins, and glamping areas. Sunset Lake Campground and Findley State Park Campground also welcome pets with their designated pet-friendly sites. Most campgrounds in the LaGrange area enforce standard leash policies, requiring dogs to be kept on leads no longer than 6 feet when outside camping units. The primitive camping areas at American Wilderness tend to be more spacious for pets, though several campers note the main camping sections can become crowded during peak season. Seasonal campsites feature more established areas for pets with some sites offering small fenced sections for dogs.

Hiking trails at Findley State Park provide excellent pet exercise opportunities with multiple well-maintained paths through wooded areas. The lake at American Wilderness offers water access points suitable for dogs who enjoy swimming, though pets must remain leashed even near water. Campgrounds typically provide waste stations throughout the grounds, and most campers report good compliance with cleanup policies. Summer weekends see higher pet populations at these campgrounds, making weekdays preferable for campers with reactive dogs. Local veterinary services are available in nearby Wellington and Grafton, with after-hours emergency care in Elyria approximately 15 miles from LaGrange. Seasonal restrictions are minimal, with most pet-friendly campgrounds operating from April through mid-October.

      Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

      Silver Springs Campground

Great for the price and location

Stayed here to be close to the NP and it is a great little campground for a reasonable price. Big dog park with pond on the other side of the park. Sites are uneven but my favorite part was the wooded path.

      Nice campground near Cuyahoga

We were in the area exploring Cuyahoga Nat Park and found Silver Springs. It was 18$ for a site with electric hook ups (15$ if you are a Stow resident) No option for no paying less for no hook-up camping. Water close by and port a pottie style bathrooms close to the camp sites. There are flush toilets a walk away but we didn’t use them. Sites are big and grassy but not super level. Wasn’t a big issue for us but could be for a bigger camper. The campground was calm and quiet. Lots of trails close by. Dog park down the street as well as a play ground and fishing pond! We had a great few days staying here and will be back if we are even passing thru Stow again.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Lots of options!

We really loved this little spot! It appealed to all of what we were looking for, our camp host was awesome. There was even a dog park within walking distance- a lot of trails to explore too. No showers and the Porto potties weren't the cleanest... But they were functional. Very hospitable locals- we were invited to a square dancing party that evening in the park! Very comfy and safe.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Great parking

The bathrooms are portojons and there are no showers, however there is THE best dog park I have ever seen in this area. So my dogs loved this campground more than me and that was worth it. It was dark enough to see a space station cross the sky at night. The camping spaces are rather close, but so many people want to camp there, because of its proximity to everything amazing.

    Guide to LaGrange

Camping in LaGrange, Ohio occurs in mainly wooded terrain with elevations between 800-1,000 feet. The area experiences humid summers with temperatures averaging 80-85°F during peak camping season from June through August. Local campgrounds feature a mix of wooded and open sites, with most operating between April and mid-October due to seasonal weather patterns.

    What to do

Swimming and water activities: Findley State Park Campground offers a beach area for swimming and boat rentals. "Canoes and kayaks are available for renting. Many musicians set up camp and would jam out for some live evening music!" notes Kimberly C.

Hiking options: Wooded trails provide varying difficulty levels throughout the area. "Findley state park is well maintained large park! We can easily get lost on 3 mile hikes in the woods and still be on marked paths!" explains a camper from Findley State Park.

Fishing opportunities: Several campgrounds maintain stocked ponds for catch-and-release fishing. At Willow Lake Park Inc, "Fishing lake and swimming lake are separate," notes Jack K., making it convenient for anglers who prefer dedicated fishing areas.

Evening entertainment: Some campgrounds offer scheduled activities and performances. "American Wilderness offers plenty of activities for everyone. Had a band each night! Bad Juju was definitely a favorite of mine," shares Ivory L., highlighting the entertainment options beyond daytime recreation.

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Willow Lake Campground maintains well-kept amenities. One visitor noted, "Comfortable and Near R&R Hall of Fame and Cuyahoga National Park... Bath house was clean but dated. Owners are making improvements all the time."

Family-friendly atmosphere: Many campgrounds cater specifically to families with children. "Large campground with a nice mix of seasonal and overnighters. Clean common areas. Nice pool, camp store on site with a nice selection of camp gear," reports Kathryn P. about Cleveland/Sandusky Jellystone Park.

Spacious sites: Some campgrounds offer more room between sites than others. At Findley State Park, "We have enjoyed the shade at our site this week and the space between us and our neighbors," mentions Kimberly C., highlighting the privacy available at certain locations.

Evening activities: Organized events keep campers entertained after dark. "During the band and the day they have a concession stand open with really good food, the girls that work in there are very lovely," reports a visitor at Willow Lake Park.

    What you should know

Reservation timing: Popular campgrounds fill quickly during peak season. At Findley State Park, "Only downfall is trying to find an open spot for reservations. Place is booked most of the time. If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance," advises Jeffrey L.

Site selection matters: Sites vary significantly in size and features. One camper at Findley State Park recommends "doing some research on campsites as they range from small to large for the same price. The original site I booked was a tent site too small for 2 tents."

Water quality varies: Some locations have water with distinct characteristics. At American Wilderness Campground, campers can enjoy "beautiful clean serene park with absolutely stunning beach views at sunset," according to Andrew V.

Site conditions: Weather can affect camping areas. Ro B. noted about Sunset Lake Campground: "Many of the sites are grassy and I could see the potential to get stuck if you ended up in heavy rains."

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Cleveland/Sandusky Jellystone Park specializes in children's entertainment. "Tons of planned activities for the kids. Movie nights, wibits (inflatable obstacle course on the pond), stocked pond, kayaks, Gaga Ball, RC track, jump pad, climbing wall etc etc etc!!" shares Kathryn P.

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature play areas. Willow Lake Park offers a "large open field to walk dogs" and has "nice sized playground," according to reviewers, providing space for both children and pets to exercise.

Beach swimming: Several locations offer swimming areas with designated depths. American Wilderness Campground provides "beautiful clean serene park with absolutely stunning beach views at sunset," according to Andrew V., making it ideal for families seeking water recreation.

Nature programs: Some campgrounds offer educational activities. At Findley State Park, the "playground and camp store/nature center isn't too far away to walk but biking would be best," notes Crystal A., highlighting additional recreation options.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Vermilion Valley Ohio Turnpike RV Lot provides convenient overnight stopping with electrical service. "Clean, Cheap and Safe place to stop for the night. Best $20 nights sleep I ever got," reports Gayle N.

Campground layout considerations: Access roads and site arrangements vary between locations. At Willow Lake, "Staff is very courteous and campground was usually pretty quiet with a large open field to walk dogs. The majority of the campground is full time residents with DIY add ons."

Dump station access: Service plazas offer convenient waste disposal options. At Vermilion Valley service plaza, "Clean with electric hookup for $20. Dump station as you exit. Gas and convenience items are extra helpful," notes Susan B.

Site leveling: Ground conditions vary across campgrounds. At Findley State Park, "Dirt in the campsites is packed super tight, it's hard to drive tent stakes. However, it's flat enough where it isn't really an issue," explains Evan D.
