Nice place to stop

Great place to stop, right off the hwy. Quiet, only a few spots, right on the lake.

Camel Hump Lake

Accessible and easy to find. It has sites with fire pits and tables. No camping on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

We saved this location!

Other than the bugs it was a great spot that we really enjoyed. The highway can be a bit loud but it’s not that bad. It looked like 4 spots and decent enough size. Great views of the lake.

I had to stop somewhere

Seems like it would be nice in pleasant weather. Just a few sites and spaced well. You can hear the highway traffic on I94, but it isn't bad.

Just hanging around

Pretty decent location. Slept in my tent with the perfect view of the lake in the morning.

Nice lake

This is a nice camping spot. Close to interstate. Which you can hear. Heard a train go by a few times. Lake gets a few fisherman throughout the day. Only 4 spots which filled up before dark. No water or dump. Campsites are right on edge of lake.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is camping allowed at Camel Hump Lake and what are the regulations?

Yes, camping is allowed at Camel's Hump Lake. The campground features only 4 campsites that are positioned right along the edge of the lake. These sites fill up quickly, often before dark, so arriving early is recommended. The campground is primitive with no water hookups or dump stations available. Tent camping is accommodated, and sites are well-spaced to provide some privacy between campers.

What activities can you do at Camel Hump Lake?

Fishing is the primary activity at Camel's Hump Lake, with anglers visiting throughout the day. The lake provides scenic views, perfect for photography, especially in the morning. Wildlife observation opportunities exist around the water. While swimming isn't specifically mentioned, the direct lake access from campsites suggests it might be possible. The area is also suitable for relaxing and enjoying nature, though visitors should be prepared for insects during certain seasons.

Where is Camel Hump Campground located in North Dakota?

Camel's Hump Lake is located in North Dakota close to Interstate 94. It's a small campground situated directly on the edge of a lake, making it a convenient stopover for travelers using the interstate. The proximity to the highway makes it easily accessible, though you will hear some traffic noise. The location offers a peaceful lakeside setting despite being near the main transportation route.

How does Camel Hump Campground compare to other campgrounds near Medora, ND?

Camel's Hump Campground offers a more intimate experience compared to many campgrounds near Medora, with only 4 well-spaced sites. While it lacks amenities like water and dump stations, it provides direct lakeside access that many other campgrounds don't offer. The highway proximity creates some noise not typically found in more remote Medora-area campgrounds, but the convenience and lake views compensate for this. It's best suited for self-sufficient campers seeking a quick stopover or fishing opportunity rather than those looking for full facilities or complete wilderness isolation.
