Such a nice and clean campground! The sites are pretty big so you can move around easily and there are tons of trails you can check out as well and water access. Campground host was very nice too!

The hosts are friendly, and the fire is warm. It's so fun to see all of the animals. The property is beautiful, and the camp spot is private. We have plenty of space for our RV. Feeling thankful!

We have family in Edenton and have stayed at Ricky Hock many times. It is just north of town and has large mostly pull through sites with full hookups.

Excellent place to camp overnight or for a couple days to rest while traveling the I-95 corridor. Full hookups to empty your tanks (heated water to avoid freezing in cold), level sites - mostly pull through so you can get in and out with ease. Large open areas to walk the pups and a decent sized dog run so they can get exercise (I can’t run that fast :) ). They has a small pool for hot summer months to cool off and refresh. Camp store has needed essentials but don’t expect to find everything a camper can desire. Campus is sparsely appointed but it has all that travelers really want which is a quiet place away from the noisy highway that is safe and has the site amenities of bigger and fancier campgrounds. I rate 4 stars because it serves its intended purpose, has level sites (didn’t even need to unhook to get level) with full hookups, and it’s priced for a quick overnight or even long-term stay if you are of humble needs. We will make it a regular stop on our journeys south and north again.

We went for Valentine's Day weekend. Only a couple of other people were there, and we hardly saw them. We used site 11. I still think it's the best one, it's the largest, right next to the main trail head, & bath house trail right ahead of the site. The bath house was real nice. They had heaters running and they were so toasty, also very clean. Trails were nice too, we used our ebikes on the bike trail.
ScoutStayed on Friday and Sat nights at family campground. Bathrooms ok but in need of maintenance. Park clean and well maintained. Biggest issue is the noise. Neighbors played music and were loud until well after midnight. Other neighbor had dog barking all night. Not a great campground for people with young kids like we have. We will be looking for campgrounds with onsite hosts in the future.
ScoutWe loved staying here for the weekend! We were the only ones in the tent area underneath beautiful trees. We kayaked in their creek that goes out directly to the Chowan River. Large fishing pond, firewood available, clean shower house, game room and tidy clean sites. Will return!

Wooded location with Kayak access to the low country. Water service is inadequate, it’s a water meter box that is in the ground under water itself. Quiet place with clean restrooms.

Stopped here as we were doing the NC state park challenge. Spent the night. The campground was full and spots were close together. A lot of people stay here to hunt locally. They stay here as it was convenient. We did have neighbors that had a huge spotlight and brought a deer back to skin. I found out from my other neighbor the next day that it isn't allowed here. We didn't know so I guess they got away with it but they kept to themselves...
we otherwise just hung out, checked the old plantation and took a hike on moccasin trail. Be careful!!! It was brisk and damp and we of course, came across what appeared to be a moccasin on the trail. My dog jumped over it...startled it and I saw its head pop up. We had a standoff and some how came out of it unscathed. Phew!
Also, along the same trail that is parallel to the trail there are local houses with two pitbulls that came flying out to greet us on the trail..not neutered and owners nowhere to be found. We, my female pit mix ignored them and they thankfully ended up going home.....otherwise the trail was a nice walk along the lake, but sure wasn't dull for us!
The plantation is a neat part of history and I learned a ton about this area and park though the slave history is pretty sad.
LegendIn the middle of nowhere, but it was peaceful and everyone was friendly. The trail system was magical. We hiked early in the am and it was such a therapeutic hike through the forest and swamp. Stayed in our Tepui tent and had a great time.

Just being honest- I’ve been over-landing/camping all around NC and this did not feel like nature. It feels like a parking lot with a pool. Please Understand you will be parked in between huge trailers/RVs that rent that space permanently and are slightly territorial. Considering not spending night. AND Don’t go over 7.5 mph the golf cart police will scold you. Pros- It’s clean and quiet and hookups work.

Owner on site, propane available, showers & restrooms are newer and very clean. We reserved late so had one of the spots right next to the restroom. Owner explained that the wrong kind of sand had been delivered so it would not compact, it was a challenge pulling our trailer thru the sand. This seems to be an issue in only a few of the spots.
GuideStayed a few nights leading up to Memorial day. Our site was a good size, and tent pad was nice. Lovely shaded site, and large picnic table. Did not have to use our popup shade. Downside were the large gravel throughout the site - tough for small dogs and crawlers. Nice 0.7 walk from the campsite to the visitor center to rent canoes! Just a short drive to some other trails. Enjoyed the Cyprus Point trail which you access at the boat ramp section of the park. If you canoe long enough, you'll come across two alligators who live in the pond.
TravelerThe campsites are great with ample room for privacy, and easily accessible to the restrooms and trails around the pond. The visitor center is fantastic and offers canoe rentals as well as a spot to unload your own canoe or kayak.
I would recommend visiting in the cooler months of spring or fall. In April, the site was probably only 25% occupied and it’s still cool enough not to be bothered by mosquitoes.
Taking a canoe or kayak out to explore the pond and swamps is a must and total unique experience. Turtles, birds, cypress trees, and alligators.
GuideWe tented here and really liked the campground. We stayed in the family campground since we had a vehicle. There are float-in and hike in spots we did not investigate. Our site was clean and separated well. The bathhouse was nice and warm and clean. The rangers were very nice. This has a much better swamp experience than the Great Dismal Swamp.
ScoutGreat little campground! About 30-40 sites. The camp host Sharon is FANTASTIC. Not a ton of “amenities” but the campground is very well maintained. Very good restaurant right across the street!
GuideWe drove up to check the park out to see if it would be worth a trip to camp. We will definitely be making a trip there. The camp ground was nice and very clean. The sights are all gravel with full hook ups. But loop around the sight is paved. There are some cabins as well with a bath house. The tent sights are completely secluded drive in with some on the water. All the roads are paved and nice. Except the road back to the tents is dirt but very well kept. If navigating the tent spot the road may be tight for larger trucks. I have a F-150 that was fine but anything larger than a half ton truck it may get tight.
Activities: There is a nature center at the entrance of the park. A ton of trails with trail heads everywhere. A swim beach (we didn’t walk to). A place to launch Kayaks as well.
Careful There is four foot tall vegetation between the sites and they are spread out. When I was there a random fire started where myself and another camper fought it for 30 mins and my wife drove around getting campers to evacuate until the fire department came. Just be mindful if your smoker and any fires you may have while camping. If you were camping there March 5th, 2023 and came back to your house unhooked from your trailer, I’m sorry but I used it to contain the fire instead of burning your 5th wheel down. I didn’t hook it up because I was dragging it through fire and didn’t know if you would want it hooked up.
ScoutHave been several times the last being 2 nights last weekend. I sleep in the primitive site in a hammock and there were plenty of trees to hang from. Firewood is $8.00 a bundle. Although it was a busy weekend the sites are far enough apart that noise is not an issue. The primitive sites are well maintained and the staff is great. There is a dock that you can launch a kayak from and racks to store them. Nice touch. Water is from various spigots but no electricity. There are some bathrooms

ScoutThey have a cabin that is fully handicapped! It has a paved sidewalk to the bathrooms and they will allow you to drive your “person” down the access path to the water way!! My daughter loved it and we will be back! Even the picnic table has a cut out for a wheelchair!
GuideI pulled in here for a night and got the chance to see bears running around on the way in. Hiked the water loop and was happy to see a nice swim area. If you continue on the loop you'll come across a plantation historic site. It's not on the campground map so I got a little spooked thinking I was in a A24 film. I visited in June and this place was loaded with fireflies; my personal favorite. All of the shady spots look like they'd be prime time for laying back and watching the fireflies bump around. One even snuck in my car and I didn't realize until the next night.
This campsite is pretty barebones. I went for an open site to be close to the bathroom and give my solar panel a chance to soak in the sun. Firewood is available for sale and it's cheap, $5 for 10 pieces. Unfortunately it was a little wet and hard to start.
BEWARE OF THE DEER coming and going out of this park. I had the misfortune of hitting one on my way out.
GuideWe stay here occasionally when we head south on I-95, and it’s a decent place to call home for a few nights. You can reserve this campground online, which is always handy. The staff are helpful and pleasant.
The campground itself is not huge, but a good size and easy to navigate. Just watch when you are arriving as the driveway is a bit hard to see and turning around can be tricky if you go too far. It would be good if they marked the entrance a little better, but that is a nitpick.
The sites are pretty big and level, and it seems most of the sites have sewer, water, and electric. There are lots of pull through sites as well.
I noticed that the police patrol the area frequently and even park their cars there, so that is good for security.
The campground has a nice sized pool, a camp store, and a few other amenities. It is also gated so you can’t just drive in. When you check in you need to call the office and they will come out and move the barrier and then escort you to your site.
This campground is certainly nice enough; it is conveniently located, has good sized sites, and all the necessities. We will definitely stay there again!
ScoutNew clean RV area in older state park. Bathrooms and showers were new and excellent for RV campers. Verizon 1-2 bars. Spanish moss in trees over the Pamlico. Can get buggy and humid when hot. Bring bug spray. Gravel RV pad.
