    Enfield - Rocky Mount KOA

No Frills, Full Hookups I-95 Waysration

Excellent place to camp overnight or for a couple days to rest while traveling the I-95 corridor. Full hookups to empty your tanks (heated water to avoid freezing in cold), level sites - mostly pull through so you can get in and out with ease. Large open areas to walk the pups and a decent sized dog run so they can get exercise (I can’t run that fast :) ). They has a small pool for hot summer months to cool off and refresh. Camp store has needed essentials but don’t expect to find everything a camper can desire. Campus is sparsely appointed but it has all that travelers really want which is a quiet place away from the noisy highway that is safe and has the site amenities of bigger and fancier campgrounds. I rate 4 stars because it serves its intended purpose, has level sites (didn’t even need to unhook to get level) with full hookups, and it’s priced for a quick overnight or even long-term stay if you are of humble needs. We will make it a regular stop on our journeys south and north again.

    Farm Country Campground

Quiet peaceful farm in Bear Grass NC (near Williamston NC)

We have been here from early September thru February. Phenomenal place for short term and long term stays. We are full time RV’ers and we usually move on after a few months. But, this place has been a joy. Staff has been exceptionally accommodating and are on top of keeping this park the gem that it is. Monthly rates are great.

There are miles of waling trails around the farms and through the on-site forests. They are directly across the street from the “Deadwood Smokehouse grill”. Deadwood is open Thursday thru Sunday. Good food and lots of activities for kids, playground, miniature railroad with seasonal themes. About 15 minutes to Williamston NC, with plenty of shopping (-Walmart, Food Lion Piggly Wiggly, Tractor Supply).

On-site store with minimal supplies, LP on site, full hookup w/ 20/30/50 amp service, water and sewer, laundry room and shower facilities. 4 out of seven nights expect a kaleidoscope effect sunset. Absolutely amazing.

Currently livestock include a brood mare and colt. We have been feeding them apples and carrots with the owners permission. The campground is about 40 minutes from Greenville and 30 Minutes to Washington. Both Greenville and Washington have several large RV dealerships with plenty of parts and supplies. A Camping World is in Greenville on Red Banks Rd. From here you are about an hour and a half to the Outer Banks.

    RV Resort At Carolina Crossroads

Nice place with a few cons

Nice level pull through concrete site with paved road. Good hook ups, clean facilities, nice dog park and clean pool/hot tub. Close off 95, but far enough you don't hear it at all. We even got a gazebo site, which was awesome. They even allow you to wash your rig. Only negatives, are not much in the area to do, no cable or wifi and absolutely no antenna service. Shopping, Walmart, gas and chain restaurants close by. Would definitely stay here again.

    Enfield - Rocky Mount KOA

    Decent Campground

My daughter needed to move out of her dorm at ECU and this was the closest campground that had a site available over Labor Day weekend. We were happy to be as close to her as we could get, and we appreciated being able to stay at this campground for 2 weeks.

This KOA is taking COVID serious, so during check-in they had us stay in the vehicle and call the office. A couple of minutes later, someone came out with paperwork and directed us to site number 2. When I got out to check the site, I noticed there was no sewer hook-up, so I asked one of the grounds crew guys who was nearby. He told me I was not on a full hook-up site.

I was pretty sure I had booked full hook-up because we planned to be there for 2 weeks, so I went to the office and asked. The owner proceeded to give me a lecture by about how I need to be more careful when booking on-line because their computer showed I only needed power and water. I asked the owner why he thought I would book a site with no sewer, if I planned to be there for 2 weeks. I had more I wanted to say about his attitude, but I bit my tongue because this was the only campground near where we needed to be. Fortunately, they had a full hook-up site available, so I was able to pay a few dollars more a night to ensure a comfortable stay. When I asked which site I was going to, the dude wouldn't answer me. Thinking he hadn't heard me, I asked again and he huffed. Then he said, "Don't worry about it, just follow my sister and she'll take you to the site." Again, I bit my tongue.

The sister took us to site 25 and after she gave us instructions concerning their very specific traffic pattern, she said, "I'm sorry about my brother." After reading other reviews of this campground, I'm pretty sure that was not the first time, and won't be the last time, she had to apologize for her brother's rudeness.

When we got to the site, we were happy to see it was extra long, so there was plenty of parking for the truck, the rig & my wife's car. The site was relatively level and the water and power were well maintained, clean & easy to access. The sewer hook-up, on the other hand was not ideal, as the pipe was nearly touching the leg of our neighbor's picnic table. I checked and sure enough the site on the other side of us had their sewer pipe right next to our picnic table. That said, the gnats were so bad at the campground that we didn't spend much time outside, so we barely noticed our neighbor's sewer line.

Cell service was excellent, which was good because WiFi was not ideal. They have satellite internet, so it was slow and barely accessible. They gave us passcodes for two devices, and the code is good for 3 days. So if you are there longer, you need to request additional codes.

The campground had one section for people who are there for extended stay - mostly construction workers doing nearby highway work. They were quiet and did not bother anyone. The rest of the campground was used by people passing through. The campground is close to I95 (there was no highway noise), so we seemed to have new neighbors every night.

All things considered, it was a decent campground and met our needs. I am not sure I would stay here for an extended time again, but if you're passing through or looking for a weekend getaway, the Enfield KOA will work.

    Green Acres Family Campground

    Great family fun

This place was awesome! They have two swimming pools, golf, put put, nature trails, pavilions, Church on Sunday, nice pull through shaded sites, pond for fishing or paddle boats, I mean I can go on and on. The staff is amazing and polite. Prices are low. Only down side is the shower room. It needs to be updated but still very functional. Great place we will be going back soon!

    RV Resort At Carolina Crossroads

    Great campground for an overnight!

We have stayed at this resort several times. It is a couple of miles off of I-95 in Roanoke Rapids, NC, so it’s a good place to stop while traveling to get some rest and respite from the road.

The campground appears to be run by the owner and his family, and they are nice and helpful, but sometimes a bit disorganized. However, they always had our site reserved, they just didn’t have the reservation information. Not a big deal, things happen sometimes. One time they did help us out when we were running late, we called last minute and they were able to work out a site for us despite the campground being booked. All in all, great people!

The sites here are great! They are large and level with a concrete pad, water, sewer, and electrical hookups for both 30 and 50 amp. After a long day on the road it’s great to just be able to pull in and not have to work to get level. It is easy to navigate the park with nice wide turns and lots of space.

The campground has a small pool with a water slide and a hot tub, but they are strict about closing them at dusk. There is also a nice playground for the kids. I don’t know if there is a camp store or not, as I have only overnighted there.

The campground is right off of I-95, and is located near Bass Pro Shops and a large Camping World, so if you need a bite to eat, some outdoor gear, or repairs, they are available.

If this campground were closer to me I would be here often. It’s nice, clean, and conveniently located. Even though it’s close to I-95, it’s far enough away where you don’t hear the road noise and can actually get some rest.

    Pettigrew State Park Campground

Beautiful campground with some short distance trails along Phelps Lake

We camped in the State campground at Pettigrew State Park. It is a small campground with just a few camp sites. We usually overnight there on the way to the NPS campgrounds on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, though it is nice enough to justify a stay if you find yourself in the area. We visited in March, so insects were not a problem, though your experience may be different if you visit during the warmer months, as much of the area surrounding Lake Phelps is cypress swamp.

I little about the campground amenities: it is modest and good for tent camping. Though there is room for RVs, there aren't electrical and water hookups, though most who were there were in RVs. Each site has a fire ring with a grill and firewood is available for a nominal fee. There is a bathhouse with toilet and shower facilities.

The natural beauty is worth the visit. From the campground it is an easy walk to the lake. We were able to see an impressive sunset from the lake shore. There is an out and back 1.5 mile trail, for a total of 3 miles, that follows the lake, taking you through the Somerset Place State Historic Site. The walk passes through the swamp with many large cypress and sycamore trees. At the end of the trail is a walkway to the lake along an irrigation canal.

    RV Resort At Carolina Crossroads

    ok for an overnight

Very open sites very close together and not a tree in sight. Basically a field with a bunch of RVs in it. We were here in January and the year round hot tub was closed. The bathrooms were clean. WiFi didn’t work and poor cell service. Says $45/night on Dyrt and it was $68.

Guide to Windsor

Windsor, North Carolina camping options stretch along the Cashie River and nearby Chowan River watershed at elevations under 100 feet. The coastal plain terrain creates unique camping conditions with sandy soil that drains quickly after rainfall. Campsites in this region typically offer water views with riverfront access points for boaters and anglers.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Goose Creek State Park Campground provides free loaner fishing poles for campers looking to catch local species. "Our campsite was right on the Pamlico river. There was a great spot to watch the sunrise/sunset directly behind our campsite with benches. Also close to our campsite was a dock to fish off of or to launch a kayak... the park ranger told us about a neat program at the park, where they will loan out fishing poles for free, they are great poles and we ended up catching over 20 fish!" notes Maureen C.

Kayaking access: Twin Lakes Resort offers direct water access for paddlers. "Big lake that runs to the ocean, great size pool, amazing beach ice cream, campground activites such as a live band, DJ, and movie night!" shares Riley. The campground maintains water access points suitable for various watercraft.

Wildlife observation: Campers frequently spot native wildlife throughout the Windsor area campgrounds. "We've seen deer and a raccoon visited us during the night," reports one camper at Goose Creek State Park. At Whispering Oaks RV Resort, visitors note: "There's a Blue Herron that hangs out by the pond you can see everyday. There are beautiful deer that come out at dusk to eat with their babies."

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Winter camping options remain available but with limited services. At Goose Creek State Park Campground, winter visitors note: "We camped on the primitive side. One RVer notes: "You can't park on grass so we moved to overflow parking." Check with parks about surface types before arrival, especially for heavier rigs.

Big rig accessibility: Several Windsor area parks accommodate larger motorhomes but have specific limitations. A 42-foot fifth wheel owner at Carolina Crossroads reported: "Park had a tight turning radius and we struggled turning down aisle D in our 42 ft 5th wheel. Despite it saying it was 60 ft, spot was still tight." Call ahead to confirm turning radius requirements.
